Stole the snap from flickr.com. A sunset near the railway station which, from Monday, will again be a regular haunt as I make my way into work back here in Glasgow. And Monday is when I hope to again get back in the saddle in terms of regular updates at TVV, as well as again having the ability to make regular stops at my favourite other place across the internet. As I mentioned in a previous
Why a picture of the Munros, you ask? Well because I would like to tell you about a pal of mine called Colin Munro. I first moved up to Glasgow in 1994, after an horrific year of culture shock in Manchester. I came over to the UK for the first time in 93, after an Austrian upbringing, and things were tricky at first. When I left Manchester I decided: bollocks to being friendly, this time I'll just keep my head down and do what I want, and once everyone gets used to me then they can [...]
Hahaha - what am I talking about - of course they were. Fucking dreadful band. Dear readers, you may think I've gone a bit mad recently, what with defending Snow Patrol and Joe Cocker, but you can rest assured: I may be losing it a bit but I'm not altogether mad just yet. So, to make amends for putting you through this cringing apologism for the last couple of days, here are some random songs by people who have pretty much always been good. I am generally not much of a fan of cover versions [...]
Ethical officers in mega-corps these days are all the rage. I have lost count of the number of times I have been told by cretinous free market fundamentalists that big business will all act in a morally upstanding manner because consumer pressure will force them to and that is the beauty of capitalism, my friend. Even the sight of the smug smile fading as I ominously raise my shovel, malicious smile on face, isn't enough to eradicate the fury that sort of obvious denial of reality stirs deep down in my little red soul. Despite wearing the [...]
Now then guys & gals, I've taken the plunge and gone with file den (thanks Elizabeth for the helpful tip). I need some of you to have a listen and tell me that everything is fine.....or otherwise. So for the moment, I've decided to post a couple of the old songs from the ezarchive days. mp3 : Lloyd Cole - Butterfly (Planet Ann Charlotte Mix) mp3 : Paul Quinn & Edwyn Collins - Pale Blue Eyes *
1) "Autumn Sweater" - Yo La Tengo from I Can Hear The Heart Beating As One [ Buy it ] 2) "Underwear" - Pulp from Different Class [ Buy it ] 3) "Restaurant Blouse" - VV and Hotel from If The Twenty-First Century Didn't Exist, It Would Be Necessary To Invent It [...]
Well it's finally here, after much debating and changing and rearranging my top 25 albums of 2006. Most likely it should be called favorite 25 as it's all subjective anyway, and if I did it again next week it would most likely change. I'm sure everyone will find something to agree or disgree with here, but these are the ones that spent the most time in my cd player.iPod,etc. They are the ones I enjoyed listening to the most. All in all it was a pretty good year for music. So, kick back and enjoy, add a comment if you [...]

Well it's that time of year again, make a list, check it twice, find out who... oh you know the rest. While I continue pondering over my choices for the best albums of 2006 I'd thought I'd give you some of my picks for the best singles, or should've been singles of the year. To avoid the typical ranked from worst to first I've sorted them by length from shortest to longest, because isn't a single really about the making the biggest impact in the least amount of time. So without further ado here's the first 10 songs [...]

Antidepressant offers all the elegance and eloquence Lloyd Cole 's fans have come to expect from him. He's said on this album he tried "to represent little lives, because little lives are often struggling nowadays" . A feeling of quiet desperation does run through the album. Probably the most cheerful track, "Everysong", offers a reminder that not every song can be depressing, while cheekily providing such a break: Surely clouds are coming soon But as of now I can see nothing but blue No use to go second guessing [...]

I hadn’t actually listened to a Lloyd Cole album prior to getting hold of a copy of Antidepressant, so, I didn’t really have a frame of reference (above and over the Camera Obscura line) or an expectation of what it would sound like. My initial impressions are very positive; I can see why folks like Xolondon get so excited about his voice; there’s something warm, comforting and very familar
Moby Grape - "I Am Not Willing". Peter Lewis' voice goes nowhere in particular, bobbing like walnut shells. But the piano is insistent, fateful, even inevitable. There's peace in the karmic wheel; it's something to be "grateful" about. Moby Grape have enough confidence in the Way Things Are that the guitar solo can fade right out. If this is psychedelic rock, it's the kind that turns right inwards, watching the pulse of your own capillaries - following the shivering slow of your heart. [buy] Lloyd Cole - "I Am Not Willing". Strange that Lloyd Cole's new album isn't even out [...]

Dear Friends, I am so very sorry. Truly I am. I am sorry that I feel the need to share with you a song that, for diabolical reasons known only to it, dug its way out of my subconscious a few days back. Since then it has been dancing on my cerebral cortex like your embarrasingly drunk Uncle Ted did at your cousin's wedding last summer. And dang it if I can't swat it away. So here it is. I warned you. Loverboy - Working for the [...]
