Were it not for Favorite Gentlemen , I fear that some of the South's rock gems would go unnoticed to the rest of the country. Fortunately, the Manchester Orchestra -helmed label is around and ready to bring us some of the finest acts Georgia and beyond has to offer, like O'Brother . Drawing from every prefixed rock sub-genre you can think of, this unpeggable Atlanta outfit's latest album, Garden Window , is a gritty 11-track collection of genre-bending rock music. The band's lead single, "Lo," is a low-tuned, Queen of the Stone Age-inspired [...]

Long time SXO favorite, Phresy, is back with a new label deal and a new track. Im dumb excited about this joint because it features B-more/ Bad Boy's own LOS. Producer Nylez murdered the beat w/ Phreshy & LOS laying the track to rest. #SICK Download: Phreshy Duzit feat. LOS - "Watch Me"
Hard to believe that it's been almost six months since O'Brother released their first full-length, Garden Window —it's a record I still listen to at least every other day and I'm always discovering new and unexpected things lurking in the shadows of the music. Given that time, I'm a little surprised it took so long for the band to produce their first video, but after watching it I'll say it was undoubtedly worth the wait. Volatile, whiskey-chugging youths committing random acts of violence and vandalism in a cold, desolate industrial town. Sounds rad, right? An abandoned church [...]
And my favorite electronic duo Death Rattle returns with another new song and video for Do As You Please. This latest track sees them continuing their foray into dark electronica territory, armed with a video of intensely choreographed dance moves, Helen Hamilton almost like Natalie Portman in Black Swan, her vocals stronger than ever. Do As You Please is only the 2nd song that is publicly released by Death Rattle thus far. It's a relatively new project but Death Rattle has been around for years, in other guises such as That Mouth and Los. And the more I hear them, [...]

On the Baltimore City Paper's Noise blog I wrote a post about the local radio hit "Trashbags" by DBoi Da Dome and Starrz, and the recent remix with Caddy Da Don and Los.

Artist : Los Campesinos! Support : Tall Ships Venue : Thekla, Bristol Date : Wednesday 21st March Words by Mel Reeve. Photography by Amanda Penlington Wednesday night at Bristol's Thekla gets underway early and Tall Ships perform in a way that would be commendable for a headlining band. It's rare to [...]

I reviewed DDm's Winter And The Tinman's Heart , featuring guest appearances from Los and Rye Rye, for MobtownStudios.com .

The legendary One Be Lo drops Laborhood Part 3, a series collecting together features that One Be Lo has MCed on asides from his solo work. This one ranges over the last decade of One Be Lo's career and includes the likes of Elzhi, Decompoze, Substantial, Oddisee, etc. I mean it's One Be Lo so it's dope like you'd expect. Limited number of free downloads so finger on the buzzer.Mixed by D Will. After a fairly lengthy hiatus this is One Be Lo's fourth release in less than a year. So nice to see, personally I maintain that [...]
The new Hunx video for "Private Room," and the classic video for "Cruisin'."
The fascinating video for "His hard" captivated us immediately. Also a link to "Musicians And Their Masks" by Andrew Matson.
Light Asylum equally appeal to hip adults with taste and teens going through their goth phase. We predict that they'll be massive.

O'Brother - Lo [Right click for download] Si te ha [...]

Happy New Year. The hiatus is over and I'm back like I never left. A lot is new in life and with all the newness it's time to get back to the old ways of dope new [hopefully local] music. Los helps us out with that by hopping on possibly my favorite beat of 2011. Listen for yourself.

So, I've decided to start a new series here I'm going to call "Armchair A&R," which is where I come up with imaginary collaborations that could impact careers & change the face of hip-hop for eternity. Ideally, this column can help to avert horrible tragedies - like the Shady Records roster - from ever occurring again in the future. So, to kick this off, we have Hit-Boy & Los. Los is a Baltimorean who was with Bad Boy, but now flies solo. The Crown Ain't Safe dropped recently, and Baltimorean Al Shipley [...]

In case you missed it: The Best Of Philly Music 2011, Part 1 is here featuring The Roots , The War On Drugs , Work Drugs , Purling Hiss , Lushlife , Hezekiah Jones , Chill Moody , Vintage Kicks and Gracie [...]
When they're not posing for OTT fire-brething promo shots, or coming up with the least Google-friendly band name imaginable, Lo! make angry, sophisticated noise that they describe as falling somewhere between Converge and Mastodon. Crikey. With that in mind, we threw our Christmas interrogation at their frontman, Jamie-Leigh Smith, and then ducked for cover. -- What is your favourite Christmas song? 'Carol Of The Bells' by M. Leontovich, there's something about it that really creeps me out....I think it was playing when [...]

My favorite band Los, who became That Mouth, have split up in September and I didn't even know about it until recently, when I saw this feed on my facebook for this new band called Death Rattle . I've had the great privelage of organizing a gig with them on the bill last year and am quite sad about the break up. BUT - Death Rattle, is in fact, 2 ex members of That Mouth who got together to do something completely different. Whilst That Mouth was loud, noisy guitars, epic riffs and abrasive, [...]

Last Monday when DatPiff.com premiered the new Los mixtape The Crown Ain't Safe , hosted by DJ Ill Will and DJ Drama, I was one of the first to listen to the mixtape and liveblogged my reactions for the Baltimore City Paper's Noise blog .
