We thought Treefort's initial line-up announcement gave enough compelling reasons to make the road trip to Boise. But the upstart music fest has made four more line-up announcements since then giving us even more reasons to be planning a visit to Idaho. In addition to Pickwick, Lemolo, Built to Spill, Of Monteral and WHY? the [...]

Brooklyn experimental pop outfit Dinosaur Feathers released its debut LP, Fantasy Memorial , in 2009. At the time, the album's tropical vibe and sunny instrumentation were right at home amongst similar-sounding acts also on the rise. Since then, the group has toured relentlessly and reconfigured their own sensibilities for their latest LP, Whistle Tips , due out April 10th via Ernest Jenning. According to press for the LP, the band haven't left the beach-esque sound behind entirely. Rather, they've infused it with influences from The Soft Boys, The Olivia Tremor Control, XTC, and Paul [...]

Well, 2011. You were quite the year! So much so that I've only been able to recover enough to think about you a full week into 2012. Crazy, huh? New jobs, lots of change, oodles of shenanigans, and yes, lots of good music. So much so, that I undoubtedly missed vast quantities of things that [...]

Well one thing's for sure, live in Edinburgh this week will very much not be me. I have a rather nasty flu/tonsillitis throat infection thingy (I'm not a doctor so I am not sure which, but you know the kind of thing I mean) and it means that swallowing is extraordinarily painful, even if it is gin. I am not sure that soaking the paracetamol in alcohol particularly aids in its efficacy either, but as I said, I am not a doctor. We, of course, have our next Ides of Toad gig on Sunday, when the [...]

So, despite the name Loch Lomond aren't from Scotland nor are they even from Canada; Loch Lomond is in fact a band from Portland, Oregon started as a small project by Ritchie Young back in 2003 and since then has morphed into a multi-member chamber pop band that currently has around six members on board for new album Little Me Will Start A Storm, out on Chemikal Underground , a record label that is actually relatively close to your actual body of water Loch Lomond. If the thought of The Decemberists [...]

James Vincent McMorrow covers "Wicked Game" photo credit: Julie Ling James Vincent McMorrow is a busy man. In February 2010, he released his self-produced and recorded debut, Early in the Morning . Loch Lomond (hailing from Portland, Orgeon) release their album ' Little Me Will Start A Storm ' on October 24th under their new label, Chemikal Underground. Replete with two additional, bonus tracks from the original US release, the album also includes this, their first single: 'Elephants & Little Girls'.

Your midweek options: ► Athens' purveyors of Southern Gothic twang Futurebirds (pictured) headline the Satellite on a buzzy night that also features Van Pierszalowski's post-Port O'Brien project Waters and Portland chamber-pop sextet Loch Lomond . ► The Quebec in Hollywood festivities at the El Rey Theatre offer four bands seemingly only connected by geography — Patrick Watson , the Besnard Lakes , Malajube and the Barr Brothers [see Tuesday's post ]. ► Twin Shadow plays the first of [...]
Back in July , we updated you on Van Pierszalowski of the late (and possibly lamented) NoCal indie band Port O'Brien. Pierszalowski moved to Norway for a while, charted a new musical course and, presto, Waters was born. Waters' debut album "Out in the Light" came out this week, and the flow of hooks and melodies that gave Port O'Brien its 5 minutes in the indie spotlight remains unchecked. More notable, though, are the urgency, energy and emotion Pierszalowski crunches into every chord and chorus. Similarly, director Allen Cordell packs a lot of imagery into the video for [...]
Loch Lomond wants you to join them on tour! Portland's Loch Lomond released a beautiful album called Little Me Will Start a Storm earlier this year and it's just as fantastic now as it was then. As a celebration of the end of summer, and the crisp newness of fall, the band is going on tour! Confirmed dates are listed off to the left there, and more are sure to follow. About the band: After

These mixes were posted in January and February 2010, the winter of our discontent. Seriously, the blog was on life support during this time. We're through that storm now. 2010 was such a great year for music, and these early mixes show why. Many of the tracks were available in late 2009, but appeared on 2010 releases. Tracks are from late October through late November 2009 Gapless mix ripped at 256k VBR. Download all tracks in one zip file [...]

PDX Pop Now! 2011 fell on perhaps the only perfect weekend weather-wise of this stubborn Portland summer and it was immediately apparent sunshine was not the only charmed aspect of this eight year-old, all-ages, three-day music fest featuring a wide array of some of the most diverse local acts Portland has to offer. With their two stages, one outdoors and one inside the warehouse space Refuge PDX alternating three acts in a row, I was constantly amazed at how the shifting venues kept the entire event running on time and the scene fresh and popping as the crowds flowed back [...]

The block party on my pathetic block in Chicago is pretty much a glorified bake sale with a shitty bouncy castle which I'm not even allowed to bounce in. So the leap from my wholly depressing, completely sober, and awkward neighborhood reunion to the Capitol Hill Block Party is a paradigm shift to be sure. And to boot, it's less of a block party and more of a bona fide music festival that just happens to take place on Pike Street between 10 th and 12 th . But the focus on the Seattle/Capitol Hill district community [...]

Last week we covered a new track from Portland folk outfit Death Songs called "Wounds" off the new PDX Pop Now! compilation. We talked a little bit about the band and the song, and had a few words to say about the organization as well. That wasn't enough; it's high time I let slip a little something - we here at FensePost have been quiet supporters of the Portland festival. Visit the music room in my house and you'll see several from the compilation [...]
For five days this week Seattle's Noise for the Needy festival brings to stages across the city a veritable flurry of local and extra-local talent, all in support of Real Change. Our sponsored bill goes off this weekend with Portland's Loch Lomond at the helm making their first visit to Columbia City Theater, supported by [...]
