We've been covering a lot of folk here on TBW recently, and for good reason. There are just so many good folkish bands appearing on the radar. One blog that if it had any theme might be a good folk leaning is that of Song, by Toad and lo and behold, Matthew's little spin off record label put out another gem in a split 123 of two delightfully different folk bands in Loch Lomond and The Builders & the Butchers ( MySpace ). I can't give him all the credit for this [...]

This edition of the Graboid is all about the unknown, as I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't heard about many of these releases (I haven't, at least). Though, there are a few notable names scattered throughout including MF Doom and Ola Podrida . There is one album that I highly recommend checking out, which is Received Pronunciation , the fourth release from Pants Yell! which also marks their debut with Slumberland Records. As always, feel free to recommend anything I may have left off! [...]
Here's the latest of our sporadic round-ups of new and recent discoveries. We posted about the new EP from Loch Lomond recently, and they have also made a track from their new split 12" with Builders & Butchers available. It is called Field Report and is another top notch track that has been on heavy rotation here at MM. They can always be relied upon for a great lyric and they don't disappoint

Hello Slowcousticals, I bring you a weekend playlist because I don't have a feature post (let's just be honest here). There isn't even a compromise though because there is some really great music included. If you are a regular reader or are a member of the Last.fm group, you know I am a bit of a playlist fiend. So enough with the blather and let's get to your weekend soundtrack! Slowcoustic Saturday Playlist (November Edition) ~ Wonder Stranger [...]

Wake up, ceiling stare, hurriedly dress and walk with the wind to work. Hear something. Stop. Gate off to the right. Press your ear to the door. Echoes, bouncing sounds. Eyes to the hole. Kids running around, innocence abound. Flowers in full bloom. Weeping trees. Afraid someone will see you watching. Realize you're late to work. Stop, breathe, ready yourself for the day. Think about joining the crowd of kids and what could have been. Wait. Gate opens. Little redhead asks if you want to play their game. You're hesitant, say no thanks, I'm all grown up. She asks why. [...]

"i love it when a plan comes together," is what john "hannibal" smith used to proclaim when one of his half-baked schemes actually came to fruition and with the motley crue he was working with im surprised anything ever got accomplished. thats right, i am talking about a tv show from the 80's! but that one tv show would be known as the a-team. what does the a-team or mr hannibal have to do with this post? really nothing, but kinda something. friends of captains dead, song by toad and its webmaster/label head matthew and bride jetted out [...]

This is something of a departure from the first couple of Loch Lomond records - the sublime Lament For Children EP and full length Paper the Walls - despite the fact that nothing has changed all that much. There's been a shift of tone, only a slight one mind, but one which has nevertheless had a big effect on the overall impression of their sound. The best way I can describe it is to say that the slightly macabre fairytale atmosphere, which was only present in the subtlest of shades before, has pretty much gone now, and with [...]

Local baroque pop favorites Loch Lomond stopped by this week to record a few songs and talk about the new EP Night Bats . Marking the second time the band has recorded with us, they tucked themselves this time in the back of our television studios with the cameras rolling, and serenaded us with a small set of both new and old tunes with their captivating pop sound. Set for a November 10th release on Hush Records , the new EP Night Bats exhibits lead singer Ritchie Young's songwriting at his most [...]

This one sounds familiar. Wife's out, the kids are sleeping, the mailbox is bursting (or just about to) and I've found a beer in the fridge. And no; the post title certainly isn't meant to be a joke, as all information on the beer label (enlarge the photo and perhaps you'll be able to see that yourself) has been printed using the Braille system . The beer has therefore been given the name " blindeøl ", so calling it a "secret beer" can't be completely wrong? But as funny and interesting this might be, I'm [...]
