Friday evening was a mad house. Getting into the station wasn't the issue, as I expect it will be in the coming weeks now that winter is upon us; it was the transition. Transitioning from one on-air personality to another is a bit nerve-wracking. The quarters are cramped, the mic is hot, and you have to do your best not to step on their toes as they wrap their show and you begin yours. And when it's time to fly, you have to remember which buttons should be lit and which ones shouldn't. After the [...]

Hey. How's it going? Good, great. So, yeah, you might be new here. Maybe you're a freshman at Pitt or CMU or somewhere else. That's terrific and we applaud your good choice in city. But maybe you're not exactly new here, and you're finding yourself ready to explore the town and uncover it's wonders. You're like a goddamn pearl diver, ready to take the plunge and come up for air with a little bit of treasure. Well, we're here to help you with that whole situation. It could definitely seem like a staggering endeavor. We understand. We went through it [...]

Words by Brendan Sullivan Man, I kinda hope that I'm still rockin' out at noisy bar shows when I'm old and gray and can still bop to the beat. That's not to say that I'm not old or gray now, but you should have seen the crowd at this show during The Cynics ' set! My friends and I were definitely bringing down the average age at the venue, but we were also the quietest and stationary-est of the bunch. After superb folk rock from Emily Rodgers and an outstanding-as-always blast [...]

![Lohio: Family Tree [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3274418_lg.jpg)
Lohio is an indie-folk-pop band out of Pittsburgh, and they are often likened to Yo La Tengo and Sufjan Stevens. This should be no surprise ones you hear their playful orchestrated pop. The band has a new EP called Family Tree ; five wonderfully catchy songs that you simply do not want to miss. The EP opens with "Leave The City, Leave Your Room", a song with spirited piano dominance and beautiful harmony vocals from Greg Dutton and Liz Adams. It quickly becomes apparent that these traits are not only common on [...]
So we typically toss a video onto a post when highlighting a new band or a show preview or something and let you draw your own conclusion about it. Sometimes we throw a change-up... strike that - let's call it a round up. Most of these videos are of bands we have previously talked about here on Draw Us Lines, so we won't be telling you much about those bands themselves, just some musings that really aren't worth a damn. If a picture is worth 1000 words, then a video must be worth a million. Hold on to your hats! [...]
I've never been burned in effigy before, but I guess there's a first time for everything. Lohio - Adelai

Last week, New York City was celebrating social media week. It may not sound like a big deal, but to me, it most definitely was. I geek out for this stuff, and spent the majority of the week at panels that talked about how tech was influencing music, and what the future may have in store for us. Sitting at one of the panels early in the week, I realized that all these people were talking about music, but there weren't any performers. I thought to myself, "why don't I have a band come [...]
Here's a great video for an equally amazing song by Lohio, off their latest release Family Tree. The vibes of this song and the video instantly remind me of Where The Wild Things Are, and therefore it gushes with the nostalgia of childhood imagination and wonder. You can stream the EP at Lohio's [...]

I had an appendectomy last week. Definitely not something I recommend, though it has meant a lot of time to listen to music. Here are some highlights from my week of convalescence in our first Weekly Roundup.

Lohio es una formación de Pennsylvania creada alrededor de las composiciones de Greg Dutton y la voz de Liz Adams. Family Tree es su nuevo Ep, una selección de canciones con una cuidada instrumentación y unos elegantes arreglos. Mp3: Lohio. Adeai

Pennsylvanian indie folk quartet Lohio will be gracing us with their presence at the Rudyard Kipling on February 16. Lohio's sound has been compared to the likes of Arcade Fire and The National, and you know that excites and gets the attention of any indie kid. The attention pays off, as Lohio's sound is a cascade of melodies that will not let you go. You'd be a fool to not see them with your own set of eyes and ears. Check out their bio below and dive deeper into their album [...]
Adalai - Lohio Adalai - Lohio ( Free Download / Buy ) The video for "Adelai" by Lohio (@lohiomusic) starts off pretty basic. A suburban, autumn backdrop sets the scene, with close up instrument shots creating a direct foil to the soft nature of the song. Initially, this is pretty cool, but doesn't really rock my socks off. ENTER GRIZZLY BEAR PINE CONE VIKING! HELL YEAH! The video then goes on to tell the adorable tale of an innocent young girl and giant pine cone monster, quite literally playing with fire. [...]
Lohio is built around the songwriting of Greg Dutton. The band is based out of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but Dutton's songs capture the pastoral nature of a boy who grew up on an Ohio farm. Often paired with the clear and delicate vocals of Liz Adams, Dutton is also supported by an array of musicians handpicked out the tight-knit Pittsburgh scene. Their use of glee-club-like group vocals add to the feeling that you're listening to the region's best hometown pageant. With their newest release, the indie-folk outfit Lohio creates an album every bit as grand and sweeping as the [...]
A Saturday afternoon treat for everyone. Our good friends Lohio put together a Kickstarter Project a while back to get funding to make a music video. Their most recent release Family Tree was a favorite of ours last year and the single "Adelai" is a personal favorite of ours. We're so happy to see their Kickstarter funding put to such amazing use and we're proud that DUL could help out as well (thanks for the CDs and Christmas ornament, guys!). Check out this video after the jump and leave some comments on [...]

Lohio comes from the same mindset as Freelance Whales, excessive use of xylophone, multi instrumental and male/female vocal harmonizing. The one thing that Lohio adds in though are orchestrations from provided by hand picked musicians from the Pittsburgh music scene. The band's second EP was released late summer of last year and they jumped at the opportunity to work with acclaimed director Thom Glunt for the standout track "Adelai" video. Without the money to support the collaboration they turned to the generosity of other and Kickstarter to raise the funds. The track is a [...]
