Definitely enough stuff to get you out to the record store.... Top Five New CD Releases Apples in Stereo : New Magnetic Wonder (Simian/Yep Roc) – I honestly thought they'd broken up. This is their first album in five years. It's manic and features guest performances from all your favorite Elephant 6 artists. They're a precedent for a lot of the manic, indie pop bands that are popular today. I've always been a casual fan, but never a buy it on the day it comes out guy. Bloc Party : [...]

"...soulful indie folk with a powerful mini orchestra" If there is one album you should buy today, it's Loney, Noir . Swedish band, Loney, Dear is the creation of musical genius, Emil Svanagen. They have shared the stage with Sonic Youth, Bloc Party, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, and Joanna Newsom, but are ready to step out from their friends' shadows. My guess is that they'll be one of 2007's "it" bands. Loney, Dear-I Am [...]

Emil Svanangen has been at this for a while now. In the past three plus years he has managed to release four albums as Loney, Dear, all of which have been written, recorded, produced, released, marketed, and sold on his own. All of his hard work has paid off with an ever increasing number of fans, some well backed buzz, and of course a record deal with Sub Pop. This week the world will be hit with Loney, Dear's fifth album and first with Sub Pop, Loney, Noir . Recorded entirely in his bedroom studio the album once again [...]
Lonely, Dear - Lonely, Noir (buy it) You might not be floored by "I Am John" but you'll probably like it. It's like a twisty movie you want to watch again right away to catch what you missed. What starts off as a low-key Islands-esque quirk-folk song with pretty female vocals slowly, almost imperceptibly evolves into a compressed power-pop anthem you want to turn up the volume on and jump
After months of culling and polishing new and pre-existing material with the help of producer Matt Pence, Aqueduct completed their full-length,
Download: Loney, Dear--"I Am John" I realize that it is still very early in 2007. We haven't even celebrated Washington's birthday, or thrown up in a cooler in Panama City for Spring Break 2k7 yet!! But, I feel confident in saying that Loney, Dear 's album Loney, Noir is already one of my favorites of the year. Loney, Dear is part of the new Swedish invasion, which includes bands like El Perro Del Mar, Peter, Bjorn and John, and ABBA. Emil Svanängen is the mastermind of the [...]

I am absolutely in love with this video from swedish band Loney, Dear . Loney, Dear - I Am John (mp3) www.loneydear.com www.subpop.com www.myspace.com/loneydear
meticulously recorded in his stockholm apartment, the swedish popster loney, dear (aka Emil Svanängen) finally releases his 1st major label debut loney, noir via the influential subpop records . though emil has single handedly sold thousands of copies of self-recorded cd-r's to his fans back home, the buzz around him is starting to swell into sweet indie world proportions with good press stemming from the uk and now the states. with music that is at once dreamy, exhilarating, melancholic and innocent, on stage, loney dear transforms into a seven man band with [...]

All week I've been thinking about doing some type of January retrospective. But then I realized that that would be a lot of writing. So last night I fired up GIMP and threw this together. It's just a mashup-wallpaper of some of the albums that I listened to the most during January. They didn't necessarily come out in January, but they did chew up a good chunk of my time. Even though it makes me a little dizzy if I look at it too fast, I'm pretty happy with the end result. The wallpaper is optimized for my [...]
Here's a new dose of those good melodies for you. 11 artists, even more songs. Enjoy! Singer and multi-instrumentalist Rob Crow is the frontman of Pinback (and a bunch of other projects), and here's a song from his new solo album "Living well": Rob Crow - I hate you, Rob Crow - from Insound PHOTO: the bird & the bee The Bird & the Bee is a colaboration between Inara George and Greg Kurstin,

One of the newest signing to the Subpop Records family is Loney, Dear . The Swedish multi instrumentalist, whos real name is Emil Svanängen is part of the large crowd of Swedes to hit US shores with melodic pop music in hand. Its difficult not to listen in to the album, titled Loney, Noir, without thinking how cute and really beautiful the music is. And its not in a contrived way either. The pop songs are just that, and fairly simple in their essence, but they still manage to affect the [...]

Loney, Dear Loney, Noir SubPop Records Like a cute furry mogwai, Loney, Dear's twilight pop songs come alive during those dark, lonely hours between midnight and the next morning. Their SubPop debut, Loney, Noir , is practically a soundtrack for all relationship-induced insomnia around the world. Opener, 'Sinister in a State of Hope', fades in slowly with just a quiet keyboard and some unplugged guitar, however, through gradual increments, it expands into a living, breathing pop song that cleverly invades your [...]
Some day soon a crack documentary team are going to have to infiltrate deepest Sweden and find out how on earth a country of under 10 million is currently producing a fair percentage of the most exciting acts in indiedom. A good starting point on the journey of sonic discovery could be one Emil Svanängen, the impetus that powers Loney, Dear. I know I slip into hyperbole quite easily but if Loney

WARNING! MUST LISTEN! Loney, dear - Loney, Noir Today in the station's mail I recieved an album from Sub Pop entitled Loney, Noir from the artist known as Loney, dear . I decided to check it out, and wow! what a listen. It's Sufjan Stevens meets Jeremy Enigk + Chad VanGaalen, .The [...]

Loney, Dear is my idea of perfect pop music. I fell in love with it at first listen and now I'm obsessed. It's got just the right combination of chord progressions, harmony, lyrics, and that most important element, the cheery melody that belies the melancholy essence. Simply bliss. I guess I could blather on about it in further detail, but you should just listen to it. Especially the first one, "I Am John." You know, my biggest criticism of most songs is that they go on too long. I'm all about editing [...]
