1. Loney, Dear - Sinister In a State of Hope - Yep, I saved this song for this very occasion. IMO, it's the most beautiful on the album and fittingly, the closer. There are few things I appreciate more than a fantastic bookend to a fantastic album. Word. [from Loney, Noir | info ] 2. The Earlies - No Love in Your Heart - My brothafromanothamotha Indie Jake turned me on this. Nay, forced! But for good reason. Right now I can see him rocking out to [...]
hey there, hows it goin? the past week has been quite the bitch. ever since we got back from chicago my little buddy has been feelin quite ill, as i had previously reported. yesterday he woke up with a bit of a fever, but he always runs hot as i am sure most kids his age do. anyway, so at about 1 o'clock the wife noticed that he was acting kind of lethargic and took his temperature. it was a 104.9! she called the doc and was told to bring him in in 2 hours, [...]

Hailing from Jonkoping, Sweden (pronounced Yun-Shu-Ping, sorta), Loney, Dear seems to be the next installment in the "Swedes take over all music made in 2006/07" saga and despite my confusion at how a big, cold, dark country with the same population as New York City manages to churn out one delicious pop song after another. I'm not mad at all at welcoming another artist to the family. Loney, Dear is full of upbeat, yet melancholic tracks sung in his happy/sad falsetto. Skol! It's not terribly often that a release comes along on a label like Subpop by a band that I've never heard a whisper of before. It's even rarer when that release happens to be amazing. Enter Loney, Dear . Swedish and sweetish. It's disarmingly simple sounding, despite twittering horns deep in the background and warbly electronics paying subtle homage to Brian Wilson and/or any other delicate pop sound of the last 40 years. It's got huge dreams, big love, and you're going to feel good about it. I promise you that. Newcomer of 2007? Bingo. Listen: [...]

Emil Svanängen is Loney, Dear , a musical project recorded straight out of his bedroom in Jönköping, Sweden. Perhaps much like the "British Invasion" of the 60s, one day the 00s will be considered the forefront of the "Swedish Invasion", as artists such as Jens Lekman, The Knife, and Kristoffer Ragnstam continue to shine as true examples of the musical talent that continues to originate from a country previously only musically known for ABBA. Unlike the "British Invasion" however, these Swedish artists are just perfecting past pop influences, rather than reinventing a new genre all together. While their whole [...]
LONEY, DEAR "Loney Noir" I was trying to think of some grand articulate way of stating the following: I hate twee, I love boys who sing like girls. Does that make sense? I love orchestration. I love when you feel someone has put very much of themselves into a piece of music. I think that Swedes and the Japanese can get away with using cliches in music because sometimes

Ganz ganz oft. [MP3] Loney, Dear - I Am John Gut, Elephant Gun dürfte nur für diejenigen [...]

Jönköping, Sweden The song I'm sharing with you today from Loney, Dear is what I'm currently listening to on repeat. His new album - Loney, Noir - is getting a U.S. release on Sub Pop on February 6 and he'll start touring with Of Montreal beginning the 10th of this month (dates can be found here )! [MP3] Loney, Dear - [...]

With an inscrutable pseudonym and even harder to understand vocals, Stockholm-based multi-instrumentalist Emil Svanängen begins his Sub Pop debut Loney, Noir like a veritable little engine that could: "I Am John" chugs past us with its dead-note guitar percussion and melodic false-starts-check the ridiculous glockenspiel hook-in almost disparate movements that begin to congeal a little more with subsequent listens. Sure, "John" is a simple love song-he's saying "never gonna let you down," not "never gonna lay you down"-but beyond that, it's also undeniably Sufjan-esque: You can't reduce it down to one simple melody because [...]

I wrote earlier about the opportunities still available at Tower while in its last days. While stocks thinned as the week wore on, prices declined to the point where one, if so willing, could just buy anything that looked interesting. Willing, I was. For less than $2 per CD, it was a chance to find something I would have never otherwise heard. Hence, how I found Loney, dear - my favorite band of the moment. In fact, it definitely deserves [...]
Elle disait ça : a long time ago when i interviewed win butler of arcade fire, he told me how "the band is changing and trying new things all the time, and we are already (...)

Multi-instrumentalist Emil Svanängen is Loney, Dear I'm currently in love with Sweden's Loney, Dear . "Loney, Dear is the X-man band. Loney, Dear is also the disguise of multi-instrumentalist and audio homecooking expert Emil Svanängen. In the tiny, sweltering hot Stockholm studio apartment, or in the cool basement of his parents house is where all the magic happens. The outside world has no idea of whats going on. Two records a year is his M.O., and by [...]
With bands like The Shins, Andrew Bird, Modest Mouse, and Arcade Fire all coming out with new albums in the first few months of 2007 it is hard to concentrate on the not-so-famous. Loney, Dear (one guy from Sweden) is an artist that might draw your attention away. His simple songs are recorded in a manner that reminds me of Midlake's Bamnam and Silvercork . The few songs I caught during one of his live sets at CMJ this year were pleasantly surprising. ( myspace ) Loney, Dear - I Will Call You Lover [...]

Since last post I have: not had to worry about school hung out with the gang quite a lot ...somehow had my debit card info stolen online resulting in a $3,000 attempted Western Union wire transfer from my bank account, which obviously didn't go through since I'm a poor college student Cancelled that transaction after much hassel Closed my account and opened a new one Had to battle to keep my classes from being dropped for next semester b/c my recent check [...]
Three months ago or so, back when it was first announced that SubPop had signed Swedish act Loney, Dear, I sent off a batch of questions to LD mainman Emil Svanängen. It took some time, but Emil finally got around to answering and here's what he had to say: Tell me how the Sub Pop deal came about. We played the SXSW in March 2006 and the rumours reached all the way to Seattle I guess. I've been told a few of the details, but what should we expect from the new relationship? They dont burn [...]
