There are thousands of popular artists out there today making new singles all the time. With the increase of bedroom producers though, the ability to simply download a whole studio that you can use right on your lap has made original songs more scarce. Now it seems that your finding tens of thousands of remixes by artists with more and more ludicrous names, leaving you wondering "Transexual Viking Sword Bro- what???." This weekly segment will bring you the popular remixes and the never heard of "Transexual Viking Sword Brothers" remixes of a (common) artist's singles. From all these bedroom producers [...]
I consider myself to be a pretty devoted and loving fan of the French band, Phoenix, so I was a little skeptical when I saw that Tokyo Police Club was going to give a shot at covering one of my favorite Phoenix songs, "Long Distance Call" from It's Never Been Like That. I was pleasantly surprised... as I usually am (maybe I'm just a musical pessimist?) TPC covered this song in a series of covers
Click image to download full album Song: Phoenix - Long Distance Call (Tokyo Police Club Cover) "Phoenix - Long Distance Call (Tokyo Police Club Cover)" What's so good? Tokyo Police Club is doing a second round of a really interesting idea called "10 Songs. 10 Hours. 10 Days. 10 Years." The objective is to spit out a cover for each year of the last decade, and do it one hour a day over the course of 10 days. Thus the [...]

This should have actually been posted a few hours ago since it was the song for Tuesday from the 10 Days ... project. Tokyo Police Club take on a fitting cover with "Long Distance Call", originally sung by Phoenix on their 2006 album It's Never Been Like That . I'm digging this one best of the covers so far. Only four more to go. Their Phoenix cover features Ray Suen of Mariachi El Bronx. TOKYO POLICE CLUB - LONG DISTANCE CALL (PHOENIX COVER)

Photo by Philip Cosores In the year 2006, Phoenix released the song "Long Distance Call," and it was a hit on college campuses across the nation, but not much else. Five years later, and they are one of the biggest bands in the world. Will Tokyo Police Club see the same rise after covering "Long Distance Call?" Doubtful, but who knows? Either way, check out their rendition of the tune, which is probably their best so far in this 10-day covers project. Ray Suen of Mariachi El Bronx joins them this time. [...]
Last year (and the year before) I got way too busy with this thing called life and missed out on a lot of quality music. I am here to rectify the error of my ways, month by month. Here are the March 2011 releases that got under my skin, burrowed their way into my brain, made [...]

Emanating from the suburbs of Versailles, France are four men known has Thomas Mars (on vocals), Deck D'Arcy (on bass), Christian Mazzalai (on guitar) and Laurent Brancowitz (on guitar). Their name "Phoenix" was coined in 1996 after Laurent Brancowitz's former band - Darlin' - disbanded in 1995. The other two members of Darlin' were Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo who went on to form the group we now know as Daft Punk. Even though they don't have any long standing drummers or keyboardists within Phoenix, that hasn't prevented them from creating some of most enduring [...]

I've decided to spice up the way we do business around here by adding a little "Best of the Month" feature. This is for all of the amateurs who don't check the site on a daily basis, and want a quick breakdown of the top tracks of the past few weeks. Thus, I have created a method with which you can cherry pick my favorite tracks of the month by simply viewing one post. Mind boggling right? I've included a mixed and mastered continuous stream of the top tracks of the month, just in case you wanted to [...]

I spotted this remix over at Hypem , and if you weren't familiar with the original song, you'd have no idea that this was the remix. 25 Hours A Day did an awesome job maintaining the appeal of the original track, yet simultaneously putting his own spin on it. Definitely worth the download, check it out. Download: Phoenix - Long Distance Call (25 Hours A Day Remix) Share/Save

I am all bout artists finding new and innovative ways to showcase their music live and this is the best thing to come along since I posted Lykke Li in a black cab in London way back when. Phoenix has one of my favorite rock albums of the year in Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix and when [...]

We've all heard of the French indie-darlings Phoenix by now. If you don't think you have, turn on your TV for even half an hour and you're sure to see a fast-paced urban-inspired car commercial blasting "19013. Their abrupt rise to fame isn't a fluke and I highly doubt that even after the proverbial dust surrounding the band's latest release, "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix" settles, that we've seen the last of these dance-rock veterans. And now, it's their turn to share their music without all of the frills of post-production and electric instrumentation, as the celebrated documentary-styled music sessions [...]
Long Distance Calling - "Aurora" ( MP3 ) (post-rock instrumental music) Bracken - "We Cut the Tapes and Scatter (Steinbeck Ultramagnetic remix by Buddy Peace)" ( MP3 ) Scissors for Lefty - "Ghetto Ways (Baron Von Luxxury's Super Thanks for Asking remix)" ( MP3 ) Chris Walla - "Sing Again" ( MP3 ) Milton Mapes - Neil Young covers: "Fallen Angel" ( MP3 ), "Words (Between the Lines of Age)" ( MP3 )

At first, Long Distance Calling seemed like another NeurIsis clone. They had long songs, organic rhythms, and soft/loud dynamics. Even the artwork seemed derivative of mid-'90s Chicago post-rock. But one night, their brilliance floored me. I fell in love. I found this year's Year of No Light, the band that does the NeurIsis sound even better than the masters. Fire in the Mountain The Very Last Day The key to Satellite Bay ( Viva Hate , 2007) is clean tones. [...]
