A few years ago I posted this Top Ten list, which was intended to share some examples of movies that were perfect to watch on Friday the 13th. A lot can happen in three years. Movies change (well, formats, at least…) people change, tastes change. It's time I update the list with ten more movies [...]
As promised, here is photographic evidence of the reason I was unavailable to blog all weekend. I was drunk and going around town in an Easter Bunny costume. Sometimes spreading joy in the real world just takes precedence over spreading joy in the cold, desolate wasteland that is the Internet. Human smiles are more heartwarming than silly [...]

This week I have been taking a stroll down memory lane, recapping some of my most successful Sunday Mix Tapes. The next new one will be number 200, you know. I'm sure I'm not alone when I say that this is a very exciting time for us all. Although I must say, if I'm still doing this after 200 more mix tapes I might have to consider making some big changes in my life. After mix tape number 100 I decided to make a change. It was January 14th, 2008 when I unilaterally (is that what you'd call [...]
Nicci and I went to see the Bruno movie this evening. It was pretty alright. Nothing revelatory. There were a few laugh-out-loud funny scenes, but for the most part it was Borat -like and predictable. It's best parts were a result of pure shock value, but we got that with the first movie too. I'd say it's a good movie to see if you want to drop $15 on a movie ticket and you are in need a good laugh. Nicci's friend is in the film, he plays Bruno's pygmy boyfriend, Diesel. They share a ridiculous sex [...]
Good Sunday, all. A very good Sunday if you're looking forward to the summer months, I suppose, but here in Southern California there isn't really anything that exciting (or even noticeable most of the time) about changing weather and seasons. While there's certainly a difference between cloudy/cool and sunny/warm, those are pretty much the only two "days" that we experience all year. Maybe your Sunday was good for another reason? Did your local sports team win a big game? Did your significant other buy you a gift? Did your parents finally decide to get off your back, even [...]

aaah long fin killie . how do you describe this band? rhythmic, bass-heavy, free-jazzy, squalling, melodic, sensitive, indie post-rock??? led by luke sutherland, formerly of fenn and later of bows and occasional guest for mogwai, this debut record makes me want to freak out, cry and jump with joy all at once. the other two are available on emusic . released by too pure in 1995. i'm not even supposed to be here today.

Sad word came down today, via P-fork, that Beggars Group imprints Too Pure and Beggars Banquet have been absorbed into 4AD. Stereolab's next album will arrive on August 19th sporting 4AD and Duophonic logos. Sayonara, l'il Too Pure arrow. You'll be missed. Favorite Too Pure moments: Seefeel, "More Like Space." From start to finish, pretty damn breathtaking. My favorite release from Seefeel. Yes, even moreso than Quique . So sue me! Seefeel, "More Like Space" [...]

Flashback to 1996. I'm perusing the wares at the now defunct Spaceboy music store in Philadelphia, and the clerk behind the counter is playing Houdini, by the now defunct Long Fin Killie. Having never heard Scottish Art Rock before, and being 16, I was impressed at the ethereal sound of this unknown band. Fast forward to 2008. Curiosity piqued me enough to find my copy of Houdini, to see how dated it sounds by modern standards. Frankly, most of it has that unmistakable sound of mid-90's [...]
