Download: Fair Fjola - "Summer Song" If you are making a mixtape I dare you to find a better side-one track-one than "Summer Song!" I heard Fair Fjola's "No One Gets Any" for the first time early Monday morning and it's pretty much all I've listened to since. As a matter of fact it's so [...]

On March 1, 2011 one of our more favorite groups Hurricane Bells released a live album named Live At The House Of Blues San Diego (iTunes). The album marks the band's second album to date after Steve Schiltz's transition from the beloved Longwave back in 2009. The live album includes mostly all songs from HB's debut album Tonight Is The Ghost (which gave a 9.1/10 here ), with the exception of their fantastic track from the Twilight: New [...]

We don't usually do themed mixes, but Halloween is different. So many great songs lend themselves to a night of ghoulish wrongdoing and sorcery. So to get you in the mood, download a marvellous combination of folk, punk, psych-rock, paisley jangle, experimental, indie, and straight up rock 'n' roll. Fifteen great songs, all treats and no tricks. It is unprofessional to reveal a bias, but if you are a quality artist from New Jersey then you are certainly likely to get my attention. It helps even more if you perform regularly at The Stone Pony, a trademark Jersey venue that my parents frequented when they were in their teens. My teenage self [...]
DOWNLOAD: Hurricane Bells - "Tonight I'm Going to be Like a Shooting Star" (Live) Hurricane Bells just released the video for "The Waiting Song" (directed by Bill Moldt), the first from the band's upcoming "Down Comes The Rain" EP. The video premiered on AOL's Spinner blog. "The video was made by the one and only Bill Moldt, using very old footage found in his grandfather's attic," Schiltz told Spinner. "Apparently, the elder Moldt was also a video director. Bill took [his grandfather's] footage and made a new film out of [...]

DOWNLOAD: Hurricane Bells - "This Year" (from Tonight is the Ghost ) Hurricane Bells will release a new EP, " Down Comes The Rain ", on September 7th, 2010. " Down Comes The Rain " was recorded by band architect Steve Schiltz in his Brooklyn, NY, apartment and Queens, NY, studio over the past six months, during breaks from touring in support of the band's debut album, Tonight Is The Ghost . As with that album, Schiltz entirely wrote, recorded, played, and produced the EP [...]

During CMJ last year I stumbled upon a band that looked oddly familiar. It was middle of the day, sometime during the week and I recall being in Pianos seeing a band called Hurricane Bells and thinking the dude on stage looked really familiar. Turns out it Steve Schlitz of Longwave fame and that the band had just landed a coveted spot on the Twilight: New Moon soundtrack to boot. All told those things wouldn't have mattered had the band sucked, but they were a solid bunch of [...]

DOWNLOAD: Hurricane Bells - "This Year" (from Tonight is the Ghost ) Brooklyn's Hurricane Bells have been staying out on the road these past few months and the band is playing a show this Saturday night with Blue October and Stars of Track and Field . Tickets for Saturday night's show are $30 and Hurricane Bells is playing as an acoustic duo of band architect Steve Schiltz and Ashen Keilyn (from the band Scout). Hurricane Bells is the new [...]
While his longtime rock band Longwave takes a short break from the music world, Steve Schiltz has been working hard to make a name for his new project Hurricane Bells . This band/side project from Schiltz has been in the works for a few years and just saw a debut LP, Tonight is the Ghost, drop late last year. That album, while similar to Longwave in some aspects, tones things down just a bit and the songs feel a lot more like a solo record. Schiltz has since put a band together and plans to [...]
Brooklyn's Hurricane Bells are playing a headlining show tomorrow night at Union Hall prior to heading down to SXSW next month. Hurricane Bells is the new solo project by Longwave guitarist/front-man Steve Schiltz. Schiltz wrote, played, recorded, and mixed the entirety of Tonight Is The Ghost - a moody, gorgeous mix of somber undercurrents and chiming guitars bathed in echo and reverb. The disc is currently available digitally through Vagrant Records and a special-edition physical release of the album will be announced shortly. Tickets for tomorrow night's show are [...]

Filed under: News , Video , Exclusive If you've ever wanted to know what it would be like if shopping carts came to life and went after you in revenge of being pushed around so much, you're in luck. Brooklyn's Hurricane Bells -- aka Steve Schiltz -- has conceptualized that idea with his new video, 'Monsters,' shot by director Bill Moldt in Syracuse, N.Y. "Bill has a knack for coming up with great, slightly cracked ideas," Schiltz, who also fronts the band Longwave, tells Spinner. "He [...]
While on tour in India, Ashen and Steve from Hurricane Bells came across this group of young Indian girls at a temple near a beach. The girls recognized them from posters promoting shows in their area and asked Steve and Ashen to sing for them. Hurricane Bells are back in the States later this month and are playing a show at Union Hall with Falcon and Scout on February 17th. Tickets are $10 and doors are at 7:30PM. DOWNLOAD: Hurricane Bells - "Christmas Don't Be Late" Hurricane Bells/Longwave main man Steve Schiltz has released a cover of "Christmas Don't Be Late" ( The Chipmunk Song) as a free download. This stripped-down acoustic version of the song, with Steve accompanied by Ashen Keilyn (Scout) on vocals, sounds nothing like the ghastly Chipmunks version. Steve released his first solo disc last month under the name Hurricane Bells (available digitally through Vagrant Records). The new disc, Tonight is the Ghost , has [...]

DOWNLOAD: Hurricane Bells - "This Year" (MP3) Hurricane Bells is the new solo project by Longwave guitarist/front-man Steve Schlitz. This is a solo project in the truest sense of the word as Schlitz wrote, played, recorded and mixed every note himself. Some songs were written within the past 18 months while others are crafted from pieces written throughout his years as a songwriter. Tonight is the Ghost is fascinating debut that is a significant depature from Longwave's guitar-driven indie rock. The [...]
Rating: 9.1 / 10 Prior to listening to Hurricane Bells, lead vocalist Steve Schiltz was tightly bound to that of his fantastic band, Longwave. So New York alt-rockers Longwave aren't exactly superstars in either the mainstream or indie community, but they're well-known and respected enough that you'd think if singer/songwriter/guitarist Steve Shiltz had decided to make a solo album, we'd have heard something about it. However, Shiltz created his new record almost completely in secret, writing, playing, recording and producing the entire project by himself before he let anyone know about it. In fact, there's a good chance you first heard his new moniker, Hurricane Bells, on the new Twilight movie soundtrack, which features a non-album track from Shiltz that should do [...]
Vampires continue to make women across the world swoon, and their appeal is only heightened by the soundtrack that accompanies such skill. Sometimes that music is a mix of talent, preparation and pure luck; Brooklyn-based Hurricane Bells didn't even know he'd hit the big time until after it happened. Hurricane Bells, the solo side project of Steve Schiltz, was something of a secret for the musician. Most of the songs Schiltz wrote were for his band, Longwave , and the ones that didn't quite fit stylistically were cast off to the side. Schiltz eventually began [...]

Longwave's last show for a while, at Bowery Ballroom goes out with a bang.

Rating: 3 out of 5 stars Many may not remember the band Longwave , the band that bubbled just beneath the breakthrough success of bands such as Kings of Leon and The Strokes . Working hard for years, differentiating themselves from their contemporaries, they sort of disappeared. Yet, all along, they continued to create vibrant music with creative guitar work. Why does this matter? Well, at the heart of Longwave is Steve Shlitz, the core songwriter for Hurricane [...]
