I was a happy kid. Sure, things could have gone a tiny bit smoother with sponsor issues and sound-guy car troubles early, but we pulled together like a community and put on an excellent day of music. The Loom is one of the most interesting NYC based Alt-Folk groups. Their dark songs are blessed by an impeccably sober immagination, which is perfectly matched by Ben Stamper's imagery in this video of the song "In Your Doldrums." The band is currently on a west coast tour, they'll be back in NYC in April.
The hot mess that is SXSW is officially over, though the effects are still lingering, and may for some time. The Loom 's John Fanning and BOBBY 's Amelia Meath couldn't have more different voices, but both were on display on Saturday night at Mercury Lounge , treating listeners to a one-two punch that was varied in delivery but equal in impact. There was a time not 45 years ago that Southern rock ruled. Bands like The Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Creedence Clearwater Revival weren't afraid to dirty their licks and splash some hard rock into their boogie 'n' blues.
