LoOmis is the solo project by San Francisco based Patrick Bailey. If you're from New Orleans you may know him as guitar player of instrumental math rock band Smiley With A Knife. LoOmis' analog recording process is always the same. Starting with a drum or beat, adding some guitar and vocals, enriching with melodica and fitting noises. The result is described as lo fi mathy indie rock. After the jump I embeded both lead singles of Melt Away EP, visuals by LoOmis. Free download via Bandcamp . [...]

Experimental analog recording artist Patrick Bailey works under the name LoOmis . The music of LoOmis bears the hallmarks of DIY experimental bedroom composition – regimented drum beats, looping guitars and synths, layers of sounds, and solitary vision. But, drawing inspiration from 80s prog rock and 90s experimental & post rock, LoOmis takes familiar sounds and renders them anew within a pastiche of electronic, down tempo, and lo-fi styles. Bailey's guitar work employs Robert Fripp -style ( King Crimson ) atonal arpeggios (Check Out 'Xanax Box' and 'When They Growl, They Mean [...]
What's an ex-math rocker to do when they won't let him sing and make less heady music? Start his own gig! More on this in a bit. Music Player: LoOmis - Vellocet - 01 Vellocet.mp3 [...]

I may have moved to New York two and a half years ago to try and achieve my life long goals, but I think all my girlfriends that I have had up here can attest that the New Orleanean in me has never left. Though, as I think for many people like myself who were born and raised there around the same time, my memories of New Orleans are kind of skewed. Having gone through a traumatic event like Katrina has my mind playing tricks on me. What was life truly like before the storm musically? I know what my [...]

LoOmis, otherwise known as Patrick Bailey, definitely isn't getting the exposure he should be getting, judging by the 85 views on his newest video for War Elephant. #GoldSweats here to save the day? Maybe so. Released to the public just hours ago, his newest EP Vellocet can be downloaded at his bandcamp (name your price, donations greatly appreciated). The album was written and recorded in a week's time, while Bailey was 'house sitting'. The EP shows his on-the-spot style; I imagine a lot of his songs are recorded very quickly. Filled with samples and [...]
This interesting little gem hit my inbox last week, and I couldn't wait to share it with you guys. Not unlike the Gayngs track that I posted not long ago, this one is difficult to define. Some smoky funky vibes reside in the background while strong bass and percussion outline nice vocal harmonies. Check out the website, go give em props. A new EP will be out in August.MP3 | "Talk Like Whales"-
You might still be feeling groovy from a ganj-packed 4/20 yesterday, all good vibes and hopeful smiles. Well, snap out of it cuz here comes a piece of bad news. Nevermore shall never be the same ... more: In a mutual decision Jeff Loomis and Van Williams (above, right) have decided to leave Nevermore. The [...]

It feels like forever since the last time I wrote a review, but that's probably because I just stepped out of the indie opium den constructed by Patrick Bailey, and his mysterious pal Smokey, who together form LoOmis. On their third album, A Solitary Attraction, the listener is treated to 36 minutes of chill, go-with-the-flow...

Wanted to send this your way before you spend some time with your loved ones and give thanks for all you have. Patrick from Smiley with a Knife sent me this. Don't know much about the band, but I can assume Patrick is in it. I got an opportunity to listen to it one time, and I found it really interesting. Here are the two songs that he recommended I post, but if you like what you hear, head to Loomis' Bandcamp page and download the whole A Temporary Reaction album for free. I [...]

Another sad and unfortunate tragedy of the Grass to Wind-Up Records switchover in the late 90's was the promising Milwaukee, WI based indie-rock/emo outfit Loomis . After burning through a couple bassists in the bands earlier stages the group settled on the lineup of Mike Chubbuck (vocals/guitar), Dave Kawczynski (guitar), Chris Rosenau (bass), and Eric Marshall (drums). Although being based in WI, the band played a very similar sound to that of the Chapel Hill bands of the same era ( Superchunk , Archers of Loaf , etc), but maybe with a bit less of the [...]
