L’Orange - Alone feat. Blu

I'm not one to usually force someone's hand to consume media in a certain way. We here at STFI usually try to provide at least two ways to consume music on our site, via the music player at the top and a SoundCloud or YouTube plugin in the post as well. It's not too often that I find an exception to this rule, but L'Orange 's "Alone" is undeniably best consumed via music video. We may have missed out on L'Orange 's Blu -assisted cut the first time around, but after seeing the new black-and-white video we won't make that mistake again. I'm not sure I've ever seen a video that so vividly translates a song from audio to visuals as this one. Director  Ashton Blessing  is really able to take advantage of the vintage aesthetic prevalent in the beat's sample and chorus, when bringing this song to life. Filmed from separate but mirroring perspectives of day and night, the video for "Alone" really encapsulates loneliness from the perspective of two distinct yet [...]

• Rubyhornet - L'Orange: "Alone" feat Blu

North Carolina producer L'Orange just released some visuals for "Alone," a track from his LP, The Mad Writer , available now on Bandcamp. This song features Los Angeles favorite, Blu , who fits in the track like a glove. The video was creatively done with a 19202s feel, supplementing the sound. It tells a story about two isolated people who seem to be living in a parallel universe, being in the same places but at different times. Mysterious producer and poet L'Orange is back with a new black & white visual for his Blu assisted tune "Alone." He has been around for a bit now, but blogs including us are starting to realize what we have been missing. This song is off his excellent The Mad Writer , which if you are into good hip hop I recommend checking that link before this video. L'Orange's  Mad Writer is out now, lead by strong hip-hop cuts like the Blu -assisted "Alone". To help support the release, we are now getting some noir-inspired visuals for the first single. Taken in a split-screen format, the video captures two lovers, lonely, yearning for one another. It fits the song quite well, and is certainly in line with prior Blu releases. Combinations. Some things just work better together, Pancakes, lemon and sugar-take one element out and you have an inferior pancake. Jean-Luc Goddard and art students, Jean Pierre Melville films and trenchcoats, some things just go hand in hand. Fela Kuti and De La Soul, yeah that works, that works very nicely indeed. Gummy Soul captures the innate beauty of a good mashup-that you can enhance a verse with an instrumental or an instrumental with a verse for the better. The Mad Writer conjures images of a typewriter ball and chain and a feverishly typing away (laughing maniacally? mumbling to himself?) both trapped and unwilling to leave his post until whatever needs releasing is out there, on paper, somewhere except the head. L'Orange 's forthcoming full-length album, The Mad Writer (coming out 11/20/12)!, most certainly gives that uneasy, hell, downright creepy vibe. And ingeniously so! Blu gets biblical on this new cut, "Alone", produced by North Carolina's L'Orange.  The song carries a roaring 202s sound, with some dark undertones, an element sometimes overlooked when mentioning music from the prohibition era.  Blu shines on this one, reminding us that sometimes life ain't fair. Blu can spit, we know that, but some of his output over the past few years has been questionable. I can definitely get down with the straight bar spitting Blu, but where I think the West Coast MC really shines is when he gets introspective. As is the case with his latest feature on L'Orange produced "Alone". The dusty sample-driven beat serves as the perfect soundscape for Blu to lather up with a steady stream of though provoking lyricism. This reminds me a lot of Blu's Amnesia project HerFavoriteColo(u)r , which revolved around vintage jazz and film samples. [...]
