This Friday, the Playground presents the launch of Ulterior's new single, "Sex War Sex Cars Sex" at Torrens Street's Electrowerkz venue near Angel in London. Also playing will be Mirrors, Rubicks, Lord Auch, The Gaa Gaa's, Neurotic Mass and Movement as well as several DJ sets from various chaps. To be honest, the only band I've know in that list are the rather wonderful Rubicks.Doors go from 7pm

When I found out the Young & Lost Club girls, namely Nadia Dahlawi and Sara Jade, were a little younger than myself it really put how much they have done and how influential they are in the London music scene into some perspective for me. And now, celebrating their 50th single and 5 years as a label, they are releasing a double-disc compilation of 35 of their favourites. Their story is one of musical fairytale of sneaking out of boarding school to catch gigs around London, before starting a beautifully budget fanzine called Pyrrha,' [...]
The excellent Young and Lost Club records have long been a fertile breeding ground for great new music, and occasionally the stars of tomorrow. In the past they've put out the first records by Noah and the Whale, Johnny Flynn and Fear of Flying (who as you know became White ...

Predictions of who will make it big are always liable to provide a journalist with more egg on face than Humpty Dumpty's renologist. The history of music is littered with band's who were destined for greatness and disappeared without leaving so much as a smudge on the window of the music world. It's even harder for bloggers like the Devil because, by our very nature, we deal in the obscure and the uncommercial. It is Thursday, and it is February, and ask anyone you like, but that is not often the best place to be. Such are the depths that the dark midwinter continues to drag me to, I'm only leaving the house between the hours of three and four in the morning to buy cupasoups from the 24 hour corner shop. I haven't seen the sun in weeks, and as a result, I've become more or less translucent. People take one look at my pallid demeanour, and run screaming for their mothers. My hair has grown long and unkempt, my eyes are [...]
