It's wild, Jim, but not as we know it: Fence Records' Halloween party this year will be taking a theme of "space cowboys and aliens". The event will take place on 31st October in Glasgow at Stereo (and the adjacent The Old Hairdresser), from 2pm to 2am. Just take care to look out for Reavers. [...]

The CHEMIKAL UNDERGROUND (ABC1, January 31) showcase for their 15th anniversary gave fans of the seminal Scottish independent record company a chance to hear short and sweet sets from pretty much every act on their current roster. ADRIAN CROWLEY had a satisfying full-band sound, but the man himself came across as being a bit charmless, which is very unusual for an Irishman. Glasgow-based group ZOEY VAN GOEY [...]

Steve Gullick I'm not quite at the point where I can refer to Emma Pollock without adding "former Delgados frontwoman", but it's getting there and with the release of her second solo album The Law Of Large Numbers , we're getting there. Her 2007 debut Watch The Fireworks was a wholly enjoyable balance of intimate folkishness and scrappy rock, a recipe familiar to Delgados fans, but more immediate and accessible than her more idiosyncratic former band. If the first taste of the new record is [...]

Next years will see the rather wonderful Chemikal Underground record label hitting the ripe old age of 15, and to celebrate they will be hosting their own night as part of Celtic Connections. Taking place on Sunday the 31st of January, the line up boasts an array of talent from their roster, including the debut live performance of The Unwinding Hours, the band formed by ex-members of Aerogramme . The line up in full looks like something like this The Unwinding Hours Lord [...]

Another day, another great Christmas show announced in Glasgow. This time it's the brilliantly bonkers Phantom Band, they will play the Arches in Glasgow on Saturday the 12 th of December. Support on the evening comes from Lord Cut Glass , which pretty makes it a no- brainer , having been blown away by them earlier in the week this promises to be one of the best gigs you'll see all year. Tickets are on sale now here . The Phantom Band-Left Hand Wave (Marc Riley session) Lord Cut [...]

Sunday nights, for me the worst night of the week, that impending feeling of doom at the thought of having to go into work the next day can be a real killer. Sunday the 27 th of September will be different though, as Martin John Henry , Lord Cut-Glass and Rick Redbeard (the Phantom Band) are playing a free gig at Bar Gandolfi as part of the Merchant City [...]

Vielseitigkeit ist hier also Trumpf! Dabei bleibt die Musik irgendwie immer [...]

For Atlanta Music Guide : Lord Cut-Glass Lord Cut-Glass Chemikal Underground Ex-Delgado Alun Woodward's lilting Scottish accent wraps itself around the haunting, intricate instrumental arrangements in his songs. His debut LP under the moniker Lord Cut-Glass — named for a character in the radio play Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas — turns seamlessly from folk to waltz to military march to a ditty about being the "product of the modern man." Each song is a fleshed-out stand-alone composition, [...]

It's funny, you really can hear so much of the Delgados in this. Given that, after Emma Pollock's solo album last year, this is the product of the other half of that split, that's no surprise of course, but as a fan of the Delgados it is quite strange to hear so much of their sound in something that is in many ways rather different. Looking at the respective solo work and then back at the Delgados themselves it seems mean to say, but the removal of Pollock's earnest piano balladry has done this music no harm at [...]

Ryan (StopMe): I've spent every minute I could spare this weekend either watching Wimbledon, watching Glastonbury or indulging in the odd glass of ice-cold Pimms. From my armchair, the highlights of the festival seemed to be every second of Florence & The Machine's set , Springsteen's surprise appearance with The Gaslight Anthem , Lady Gaga's smashed-mirror-dress-Glam-Pop- extravaganza and Dizzee Rascal sending the crowd literally 'Bonkers' . There probably aren't many bands that would think of writing a delightful Pop-Folk song touching on the subject of cum (Except maybe The Hidden [...]

Well, we are nearing the end of our time in Puglia. We're spending a couple of days in or near Napoli before we fly back on Sunday, presumably troughing like total pigs, rather than paying all that much attention to culture and all that bobbins. Mrs. Toad is doing Sudoku and complaining about the 'wrong sort of paper'. I kid you not, it's just like British fucking Rail and their 'wrong type of snow', but she insists it's just for that reason that she can't solve them, not because they're too hard. Personally I find myself wondering if [...]
