Because of the title I gave my little introduction to Gillian Hills , I couldn't resist posting this toe-tapper. I first heard it on the already classic Girls In The Garage vol.12 aka Swinging Mademoiselle vol. 3 and I've given it a fair few spins at L'Amour Electronique over the past year (yes, a whole year has passed since I first placed that clear blue vinyl lp on my turntable, dropped the needle and held my breath). As you can tell I'm quite smitten with Katty [...]
Nicci sang a song in her friend's one-man show tonight. I couldn't make it in time to see her, but I did make it to Aroma Coffee & Tea for a delicious crispy chicken wrap! Then we went to her friend's house for some beers and snacks and conversation. Then we came home and watch what is now officially the worst movie I've ever seen in my entire life. It's called Hanger . It's about a foetus that gets aborted via coat hanger (yes, they show the coat hanger inserted into the vagina and the baby being pulled out) [...]

Photo Source July's Hardcore Mixtape has set it's sight at making you feel like a billionaire. This mixtape, not purely created for the love I'm feeling for Travie McCoy's radio hit, is also my way of cheering all those people working their assess off the dull workplace just to get through the day. And even more cheering for those who are doing the work they love despite the meager salary. Yeah, we've all been through that crap once in our lives, so kudos to all you busy bees! [...]

DMC and Tekserve have teamed up for a super rad contest, and they want to know what's on your playlist. In doing so, your submission acts as an entry to win a new iPod. It really doesn't get much easier than that, but if you'd like a little more info and a play-by-play as to how to get in on the goods, I got ya covered. [...]

Los Bravos – Los Bravos Los Bravos originate from Spain but one listen to their S/T album and you'd be forgiven for not thinking they were a U.S./UK beat group. They split the line between soulful pop and an early Beatles rock sound. "Black is Black" was an international hit, probably the most successful Spanish record of the day, though the Spanish influence is a bit hard to pin down since the track was recorded in a London studio using British session musicians. This latter fact has let to an unsubstantiated rumor [...]

More disco greatness; from 1977 again, just like Baccara . This time, it's a remake of a 1966 song by a Spanish band - Los Bravos, which reached #2 in the UK; coincidentally, the same position as Belle Epoque managed. The basis of countless football chants over the years, I won't let that association stop my enjoyment. Evelyne Lenton & Albert Weyman are the only constants in Belle Epoque - and they're still going now - all the albums & newer remixes are available from the links below. ♫ Black is Black - [...]

Today is my big sister's 28th birthday. Those of you who know me I'm sure also know Becky - she's my roommate, best friend, and plus one at most shows. :) I never would have made it to my first ACL Festival or SXSW without her to make the road trip with me, and I CERTAINLY wouldn't be in Nashville if she didn't randomly suggest it one winter break. All of my best adventures for the past 4 years have been with her, and for today's Monday morning mini-mix, I picked a few of the tunes [...]
Way back in the early days of The Rally, I did a post about one of my Dad's old 45s. In that earlier post ( here ) I talk about how I played the B-Side of one of the singles without flipping it over for about 15 years (shades of Father Dougal McGuire , methinks). So here are some other great B-Sides! Los Bravos - I Want A Name (B-Side of 'Black is Black') [pictured above] Completely mental song, featuring a deranged vocal performance from a man with so few mates [...]
