The first post of the month features covers of every track on a famous album. Got an idea for a future pick? Leave a note in the comments! London Calling entered into the world in December 1979, but didn't make its stateside debut for another month. That makes 2010 the album's 30th Anniversary on this side of the pond. It's aged well. While many classic albums sound very much of their time -

During my teenage years I remember taking daily trips to the Phoenix Library, but don't get it wrong, books weren't that fun, they had an albums collection and I could take it home, at least partially. Los Fabulosos Cadillacs' live album Chau was one of the first discs I picked up, I had no idea who these guys were, but the irresistibly charming bear in the album's cover winked at me. Now seriously, it did. Ska-rock has never been my cup of tea, but I remember "Manuel Santillan, El Leon" more than any other songs by the legendary [...]

Mexico isn't one of those Spanish speaking countries where they use "vos" to each other. I know this is making lots of you that took Spanish way back in high school for a time warp, but it's a funny thing when you've spoken Spanish all of your life and have to use "vos" in a different country, i.e. Spain or Argentina. I started conjugating all the Spanish bad words in the "vosotros" tense to piss of a friend that hates the fact that Mexicans use "güey", like Americans use "dude". BTW, "güey", literally translates as [...]
The album follows the same pattern that propelled the band to revered status among the Rock en Español faithful

For the past five years, L.A.'s Nacional Records has carried the torch for Latin alternative music in the U.S. With an impressive roster of artists, including rock en español luminaries Manu Chao and Aterciopelados, as well as genre-bending electronic acts like Nortec Collective and The Pinker Tones, Nacional has set a very high bar with both the quality and diversity of its output. In this exclusive interview, the label's founder and president, Tomas Cookman, gives us the lowdown on Nacional's mission, upcoming releases, and the perils of doing international business as a [...]

VIVE LATINO 2009 10th edition of "festival iberoamericano de cultura musical" Day 2 by Juan Manuel Torreblanca Pictures by Pnacho Ok so I sorta wanted to get there on time for Neon Walrus but, honestly, it's a Sunday: I had planned to have breakfast with my dad (who I don't see all that often) and my little sister; and after that I had to drive to Desierto de los Leones (let's say it's almost an opposite corner of the city) to [...]

![Elvis Crespo Misunderstands The "Mile High Club" Concept [The Law]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1618838_lg.jpg)
The summer before between high school and the beginning of my brief college experience, I waited tables at a senior citzen home's cafeteria, ate at T.G.I. Friday's every night, and watched MTV Latino . That's about it. I'm certain that MTV Latino, which seemed to only exist within my cable lineup for a few months, played the wide selection of music videos the MTV brand is known for, but I only remember three: the delightful lightweight pop of Marta Sanchez 's "Desesperada," Los Fabulosos Cadillacs ' "Matador," and Elvis Crespo 's "Suavemente." [...]

LA LUZ DEL RITMO, LOS FABULOSOS CADILLACS Sony International, Argentina *** Rating: 60 By Carlos Reyes Vicentico y compañia come back with their signature composition of tropical and rock in a moderate album that nonetheless feels pressured at all times. This is the kind of unfortunate album legendary bands release just before reuniting for their concert tour, no wonder, their "Satanico Pop [...]
