After an explosion of attention surrounding their quickly sold out first album (also on S-S) the band returns with a reissue of said album and a brand new slice of Monterrey's finest noise dipped psych-punk. Just as unhinged as their first explosion, Take The Sky is rooted in chunks of spastic rhythm with the burnt tatters of tormented guitar grinding its way in amongst the heavy walls of static and clatter. The band has upped their fidelity from boombox to four track and the last three tracks were even recorded at KDVS' studio but don't let your lo-fi [...]
Funereal new wave that sticks to the soles of your chucks like ectoplasmic chewing-gum, that's where the Wicked Awesomes are at. In their new split with the O Voids we stumble upon Test Pattern, a ramshackle hymn for those cats out there who lose their shit in a rather idiosyncratic ...

(pic: Trent Wolbe) While Los Llamarada might be one of the most exciting bands to come out of Mexico in years, they haven't won tons of fans in their hometown of Monterrey. In fact, it's reported they've been asked at one point in a frat bar to play Cranberries covers (they didn't). That's too bad, because the Yams (as some of us love to call 'em), have something special; they're harnessing the same molten energy of the Dead C, early Germs (and to some extent early Magik Markers) and laying down sheets of unpredictable, loose-n-woozy rock. Not [...]

MP3: los-llamarada-im-sorry You ever had a conversation with a someone and they seem normal enough but then you find out their number one goal in life is to go to Cancun every 6 months so they can fuck a Mexican. And it's never like a Mayan Pyramid fantasy either. It's like straight up like cheesy club goer dood. And your like..why don't you ever go anywhere interesting like Egypt,France or Stonehenge. Lke I have been to Mexico, and it was kinda like Myrtle Beach but you have to keep your mouth [...]
We have been going on about Times New Viking since the invention of sliced bread more or less, you know they did it with mangled melodies, burning wire and serrated peaks of distortion, a sonic field of love fever, a mattress in a bedroom crammed with memorabilia and grainy posters ...
Right now, the warm throbbing heart of the whole lo-fi-DIY-indie-punk-post-punk -whatever scene is Columbus, Ohio, home to such lovable scuzz-meisters as Times New Viking and Psychedelic Horseshit. Giving them a serious...
20jazzfunkgreats watched the digitally restored version of Holy Mountain at the cinema last night and thoroughly enjoyed it in a holy fuck how did this film get made (cheers John & Yoko), and holy cow thank Jodorowsky this film got made, on top of The Christian imaginery, gas-mask clad troopers carrying ...

Hey, kids. How are you doing today? There's a big holiday tomorrow, so I'm sure you're all anxious to leave work today and begin your long weekend. Thanks for stopping by. I'm actually kind of glad you're here. You see, it's not like I think I'm more mature than you or anything (although I'm certainly more worldly and more accomplished), I just feel like today would be a great chance for us to sit down together and have me offer you some fatherly advice. • Never repair burned bridges. They were burned for a reason. At the time, [...]
I was introduced to Los Llamarada as "Mexico's answer to Sonic Youth", but this foursome from Monterrey Mexico have knocked out a handful of releases that have proven them to be much much more. Densely textured, lo-fi soundscapes created by organ and weirdo guitars hammered together billyclub-fisted drumming and finished with anguished boy/girl vocals create another great twist on damaged D.I.Y. art-punk. I'm going to go out on a limb and give this my vote for 2007's biggest surprise. Their new 73 on S-S Records (who also released their debut "The Exploding Now" LP) is fan-fucking-tastic, [...]

STUART- Movement! Signal's clean. He pans the scanner. Stops. The range display reads out, counting down. STUART- Range twenty meters. STEVEN (to Juan)- Seal the door. Juan picks up a hand-welder and moves to comply. STUART: Seventeen meters. SCOTT: Let's get these things lit. He hands one flamethrower to Steven and begins priming the other himself. It lights with a muffled POP. Steven's lights a moment later. Sparks shower around Juan as he begins welding the door. Stuart's tracker is beeping like mad [...]

Second part of SXSW 2007 punk list. This one has fare more gothic metal feel to it. Not my usual flavor, but the dark gothic is really pleasant, in romantic sort of way. (Femur and Los Llamarada) I hope you enjoy this rather long punk list. I don't mind using this for drinking soundtrack. " SXSW 2007. Shiny Punk with Late Night Sweet " 01. El Jesus de Magico : New Moses (Columbus, OH) 02. Carbonas : Phone Booth (Atlanta, GA) 03. CPC Gangbangs [...]
