Industrial-techno, typically two genres I've never gotten stoked for. That is until I heard V A L I S and their mixture of shadowy-electronic craft of perfection. Although every track I've heard from this Chicago duo is as massively sick, " Cold Hands " is the initial song to steal my heart. The darkly ominous overtones with the slight 802s edge make things feel dangerous, like being chased through fog at midnight. After signing a fairly large deal with Epic Records recently, a lot of people were on the fence about whether or not it would impact Death Grips hardcore-intense hiphop style. After hearing the latest release I think it is safe to say little has changed and that it is definitely unlikely they will turn poppy anytime soon. Santigold drops the visual for "Disparate Youth", the first single ( apparently Big Mouth isn't a single? ) off the upcoming album "Master of My Make-Believe". The video was shot in Portland, Jamaica (My Home Country) and sees the singer wandering around in a north coast dreamscape in search of a tribe of " Lost Boys ". Sonically the song carries with it a strong dub/reggae vibe, with just enough lush synths and guitar stabs to keep it fresh. It's a perfect reminder that it's Friday, so check it out.

Lost Boy will be releasing an 8-song EP on Old Flame Records on September 20 - the whole E.P. can be streamed here . We really enjoyed these guys live at our Christmas show last year, they successfully mix elements of some of the awesomest bands of the 90s - from the Pixies to Dinosaur Jr. to early Flaming Lips. Definitely catch them at Pianos on September 24 if you can.
