Hey, so I'm Evan , and since this is a new thing, let me take a minute to explain what this column is and why it exists. When I was 13, skinny and gangly, inexplicably wearing enormous Space Ghost (really, Brak) T-shirts, my mom worked at the Huntington, West Virginia Borders. At some point, she bought a Ramones compilation with her employee discount, and in short order, it was added to my listening rotation. A lot of people have those sudden epiphanies where something changes the way they think and feel about music. For me, one of [...]

Yet another posthumous rerelease from Reatard.

Since Memphis punk Jay Reatard 's January 2010 death , there's been a fairly steady flow of reissues from his various projects. First came the Reatards' Teenage Hate album , followed by the re-release of Reatard's synth-punk record Terror Visions . Now, the debut 73 from Reatard's doom-punk band Lost Sounds is being reissued by Goner Records. Lost Sounds originally came together in 1999, with Reatard playing synth and providing vocals. Other members included Rich Crook on drums, Patrick Jordan on bass, and Alicja Trout on synth, guitar, and vocals. The foursome [...]

New music video for a dead garage rock fallen hero ... Jay Reatard " Born out of the wreckage of the REATARDS and the rubble of the short-lived CLEARS, Memphis's LOST SOUNDS began in March 1999 in an orange 70's kitchen with an oversized space-aged 50's refrigerator. They were a 3-piece made up of Rich Crook on drums, Jay Reatard on synth, guitar and vocals, and Alicja Trout also on synth, guitar and vocals. With a stockpile of analog keyboard at hand (previously collected for use in the new-wavy Sid barret-esque CLEARS) the three [...]
"I will give anyone a hundred bucks per tire that they pop on the band liquor stores van ! Yes I'm serious" Those are the last words publicly broadcast by @jayreatard (or in real world terms Jay Reatard, born Jay Lindsey). It's a strange way to leave your legacy but Jay seemed to always have... Read More

(This originally appeared in Skyscraper ) The only overtly southern aspect to the person that is Jay Reatard, over the phone at-least, is the way in which he pronounces New Orleans. On the tongue of Southerners, it becomes one, lackadaisical, charming word and concept. In the name of this one city is intoned decades of a lifestyle that are as distinct as any other culture in the country. To hear the "Night of Broken Glass" record from Reatard, one gets the impression that he might not consider himself a [...]

Jay Reatard, Matador Singles '08 (Matador Records, 2008) MP3 : "See/Saw" Over the course of the year, Memphis' fuzz-punk purveyor Jay Reatard has been something of an indie-tabloid fire starter. Last April, at a typically wild gig in Toronto, Reatard punched a "fan" directly in the face, after said fan spilled beer all over Jay's beloved effects pedals. At this Summer's past Pitchfork Music Festival, Reatard joined King Khan and Deerhunter's [...]

Plus dansantes, And You Dance? [...]
