Mariah Carey's in the studio, but not that kind of studio. She actually took the time out to do a little voice-over work for American Dad, one of our all-time favorite TV shows. Not sure what the episode was all about but we will make sure to catch it. If Siriusmo made techno it would probably sound like the demonic music that young Scottish producer Esq is making. His new EP 'Lotion' covers the leftfield ground between electro, techno and acid. It's all rather bizarre and not for the feint-hearted - but if you've been warming to the odd sounds of Mindkopf, Gesaffelstein and Arnaud Rebotini you'll more than fall head-over-heals for Esq. Even after moving back to Boston in 2002, I worked out a number of interviews that were posted on the site until it went defunct. One of the many I got the pleasure of talking to was the subject of today's interview - James Curd of the Greenskeepers . Some of you guys may know that name from a video that became a viral sensation a few years back. The video was for a song [...]

I can't really remember what the mid-90's band Lotion sounded like offhand, but I do remember the rumor that reclusive author Thomas Pynchon was allegedly a big fan, which was as random as it was puzzling. Well, it turns out the rumor was little more than some fancy meta-publicity stunt created by the band, though born out of a kernel of truth. If you don't, then you hold the authority of a wet dishcloth, and possibly the social life of one. So I've included a photo of me and TPO's Anto O'Kane for posterity. Oh the glamour of backstage at Laverys! (more...)
Writing about the Luna Lounge got me thinking about Lotion, one of my favorite NYC bands of the '90s. Which in turn gave me an idea for a new feature here: Lost in the '90s. There are certainly a treasure-trove...
