[RSS Readers: See post to listen to audio] I have 4 tracks today for you that you can completely get lost in. While i've been away on tour, i'm kicking myself for missing a few shows, one of them was this Light Asylum & Warm Ghost show. The flyer is amazing for this night. Warm Ghost has this great moody remix of Deerhunter's Lotus Plaza that i've been waiting to post, i'm loving this swelling feeling it gives off. Shigeto turned on onto Teebs , [...]

There are a few bands in this world that can do no wrong in my eyes. One of them is Atlanta's Deerhunter , being headed by the most prolific songwriting duo since, well, maybe ever (Burt Bacharach and Hal David?). What I like about the Bradford Cox / Lockett Pundt songwriting partnership is that they let each other exist, nurture each other's independence, and support the band's collaborative creative growth. Most of all, they don't appear to take themselves too seriously at all, the key to anyone's affability . Let me just start off by saying [...]
![CD Review: Halcyon Digest – Deerhunter [2010, Kranky]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/2833265_lg.jpg)
I'm not really sure what I can say about Deerhunter , Atlas Sound (Bradford Cox), or Lotus Plaza (Lockett Pundt) that I haven't already said. There are only so many times you can use words like "prolific", "sublime", and "progressive" without sounding like a canned fan. I have already commented about how I think the Cox / Pundt partnership has already flourished into one of the most fruitful meetings of musical minds. Deerhunter is more than just their partnership, though, with Joshua Fauver and Moses Archuleta coming together in the recording of Halcyon Digest, which, in signature style has [...]

With the new Deerhunter record just on the horizon, their blog has gotten a bit more active as of late. Lockett Pundt just posted up the opening track from the Lotus Plaza record treated to a brilliant remix by a Brooklyn duo called Warm Ghost . Give it a listen: Lotus Plaza : "Red Oak Way" ( Warm Ghost Remix) Deerhunter Blog Warm Ghost myspace [...]
The contemporary indie take on circa 1991 shoegazing.
Helping me bend space and time this week on the AD show is Lockett Pundt of Lotus Plaza and Deerhunter. The Lotus Plaza debut, The Floodlight Collective, remains one of my favorite sleeper LPs from 2009; an album that-if you appreciate the aesthetic of his main gig-I suggest you buy, beg, borrow or steal. Below [...]

Quick before the month is over, let's stop and look back and reflect on on what we were listening to one year ago. I must say it feels weird posting a live WOXY track the day after they stopped live broadcasting. There must be something we can do to bring back live broadcasts to WOXY . Let's get on that, ok? Oh, this is the March 2009 Mix. Listen. Downloadables: Power+Light (mp3) by 50 Foot Wave La [...]

It's hard to believe we're kissing goodbye to the 00's. God. Many moons ago, 2009 seemed impossibly far away. Yet here we are on the brink of a new decade again. For those of us on the cusp of 30, it's best not to think too much about it. Musically it wasn't an epic year, but the spring and fall saw floods of hype-some deserved, some undeserved. I'm not going to focus so much on stuff other writers will talk about-the releases that I really want to champion in 2009 are two that flew very much under the [...]
Most of the time in this city, bands rise and fall based on who they know and how exciting they are live. But for this list, I've considered only what is contained on their recordings. Over the course of the year I've given roughly 75 records from inside the perimeter a spin, and these are the essential twenty that I recommend listening to most. There are actually many records that I really liked that just missed the cut, so this was very tough to piece together, especially the final spots. Looking at this list and comparing it [...]
Gotta say I've found it kind of hard to remember/figure out which "songs" are my absolute favs this year because a) THERE HAVE BEEN SO MANY GOOD BANDS COMING OUT WITH ONLY JUST A HANDFUL OF EUPHORIC AND INVENTIVE SOUNDS and b) most of them are submerged inside 15 minute long tapes or LPs and thus harder to post on a blog. But whatever, I've had to go with those anyway to "stay true to myself". I think I've lost track of heaps of stuff this year from working craploads and putting on shows in a small English city; I [...]
Doing these kind of ranked lists really stresses me out and makes me think that maybe I listen to too much music, especially when I have to spend hours trawling through iTunes libraries, external hard drives, radio show playlists, Last.fm charts etc. to make sure there's not a forgotten gem in the digital ether. That said, I do like doing song lists, not just because they're easier compile, but because it's a chance for newer and smaller artists who might've only released a couple of tracks to get some serious recognition. Anyway, listened to so many amazing alien/garage chillin/gutter-dwelling/beach- bum/pizza party/cyborg/memory-scaping/we irdo/new [...]
