Last weekend, Backstage Rider 's Mikala Taylor hit the high seas for five days of distortion. She returned safely and unscathed, though we can't speak for her ears. We're pretty sure she had a blast, nonetheless, but we'll let the photos do the talking. We're not sure when, exactly, the full surrealism of being on a boat sailing from Miami to Mexico as part of The Weezer Cruise actually hit. Was it when Weezer played "Hash Pipe" shortly after the ship's horns sounded and we left Vice City? Or was it [...]
Did you love seeing Dinosaur Jr. play Bug live in 2011? Or maybe you missed it, and now you're kicking yourself-literally? Maybe you're doing crazed yoga moves while wearing metal cleats so that you can really pound the spiky soles directly into your own eye sockets again and again, each time hoping that this bloodied kick might be the one to flood your body with enough pain to extinguish the burning RAGE you feel at yourself for missing the ultimate band reunion experience of your lifetime? [...]

There has always been tension between Dinosaur Jr's Lou Barlow and J Mascis. At the peak of their success with the release of Bug , their relationship hit a tumultuous low when Mascis attacked Barlow on stage. The group broke up. In 2005, the original group reunited for a tour, but did not perform many of the songs from Bug . "We always had a stigma attached to it as a not so great artifact of a not so great part of time," explained Lou Barlow. Now twenty years later Dinosaur Jr. just finished playing the entire album along a West Coast tour [...]

[Photos by Chris Gersbeck for Fucking Nostalgic ] The age-old debate I have with myself about going to Maxwell's , especially on a weekend: Will this show be worth waiting for the PATH at 3 a.m.? The thing is, every time you talk yourself out of a Maxwell's show, you're probably wrong. If I hadn't hit this Sebadoh show in this intimate (and for Manhattan/Brooklynites, remote) venue - despite that they were down the street at Music Hall of Williamsburg the following night - I'd have missed out. This freewheeling show felt [...]
![[Introducing] – The Rutabega](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3833647_lg.jpg)
Tweet The songs are heavy, not instrumentally, but with the weight of the experiences and raw feelings of their writer. The arrangements seem pretty sparse, yet I'm hearing an orchestra. Joshua Wayne Hensley's voice backed by an emotion and sincerity so poignant, it translates louder and clearer than a marching band ever could crammed into my tiny bathroom. It was a complete coincidence that when I heard The Rutabega for the first time, it was eight years to the day Elliott Smith passed [...]
The concept of The Weezer Cruise , sailing the seas from January 19th through the 23rd 2012, was attractive from the get-go: a four-night cruise from Miami to Cozumel featuring performances from Weezer and a slew of indie favorites including Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Wavves, Ozma, and Yuck. Now, a boat load of new details have emerged, and this winter excursion is looking better than ever. First on deck is the music schedule . The aforementioned acts, along with many others, will be playing various indoor and outdoor stages in rotation over the [...]

photo by michael lavine happy friday peoples! if youre in new orleans, remember the truckers and centro-matic are both playing, together, at tipitina's on saturday and sunday. i couldnt be more fucking excited, but of course this goddamn tropical storm may throw a monkey wrench into my plans of getting out of the house this weekend. my neighborhood floods quite easily. so, i guess i'll have to just see how this thing plays out. baby jesus hates me, clearly.... anyway, here is a killer dinosaur jr show, much like the title suggests, which [...]

We resume our reposts of the Blogophilia series this week with volumes 8 and 8.5. Why 8 and 8.5? Well, I mixed these at the same time, and the tracks came from the same collection of songs I reviewed. Calling one 8 and the other 9 didn't feel right. We've also had a 12.5, and recently a 26.5 for the same reason. Like volume 7, these two mixes really capture the summer spirit. Volume 8.5 has a throw in from an "oldie but goodie." Enjoy... Blogophilia Volume 8 [...]

Sebadoh — Brand New Love From Smash Your Head on the Punk Rock ( Sub Pop ; 1992) Any thought could be the beginning of the brand new tangled web you're spinning / Anyone could be a brand new love
Weezer, Dinosaur Jr., J Mascis Solo, Lou Barlow, Sebedoh , Yuck, Wavves, Ween: On a boat fromMiami...
If the hard-partying, punk rock-heavy Bruise Cruise is just too much for anyone's delicate indie sensibilities, then here's an equally rocking and entirely nerdier winter cruise option: The Weezer Cruise . Casting off January 19th-23rd, 2012, the ship will sail from Miami, FL to the Mexican island of Cozumel and feature Weezer playing indoor and outdoor shows, posing for photos, and answering fan questions (via Pitchfork ). In addition to Weezer's performances, the group has stacked the lineup with other indie heavyweights like Dinosaur Jr, Sebadoh, [...]

Photos of Dinosaur Jr on the Bug tour, which started with an interview from the one and only Henry Rollins.
Filed under: News , Exclusive , Q + A Gitte Johannessen J Mascis is a paradox: Incredibly quiet and reserved when speaking but louder than a meteor as the guitar-wielding frontman of greatly celebrated rock trio Dinosaur Jr . In celebration of the quickly sold-out purple cassette reissue of its 1988 album 'Bug,' the band will are playing a series of stateside shows that will see Henry Rollins [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , New Music , Exclusive Roger Kisby, Getty Images When discussing the origins of the modern lo-fi movement, Lou Barlow 's name is sure to come up. By fronting the influential indie group Sebadoh and playing bass for Dinsosaur Jr . with J Mascis , he has cultivated this now-trendy genre through hours of four-track recordings since the early '80s. Nowadays, he admits he [...]
What is indie rock? Apparently producer and director Brad Katz wants to answer that question. Currently, the Los Angeles visionary plans on putting together a film that not only addresses that question but his generation of rock 'n' roll. Titled JUST GIMME INDIE ROCK! , after Sebadoh's classic underground anthem , the feature film documentary covers "four transformative decades of American music and culture" to "[reveal] the single greatest rock and roll story never told." Pretty ambitious, but Katz isn't the only one telling the story. Already, Katz has been hard at work compiling hours of [...]

Every week, one article from the print edition of the Analog Edition Zine will be added online, until all 64 pages are available. This week, check out "The Role of the 7-inch in the Lo-fi Rock Movement of the Early 90s or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Hiss" by Jason Dean of the daily blog, 7 Inches . In his detailed and insightful history, Dean argues that "Lo-fi democratized the music of the time, a musical revolution as important as the psychedelic evolution of [...]
