by teepoo I didn't actually post any single song posts this week due to all the CMW update. This week the chart will include the track that can be found with the CMW post/photo set. Here are the most popular tunes of this week! Position Last Song Link 1 4 Gary Clark Jr.- Bright Lights post [...]

On the first day I went to Young Lions Music Club and Live in Bellwoods with their CMW Daytime sessions at The Toronto Institute For The Enjoyment Music . No one expected the weather to be that nice on Thursday. Usually the people at Live at Bellwoods would do these sessions around the Trinity Bellwoods Park area. (Wait for NXNE!) After Samantha Savage Smith 's set. It was Louise Burn 's turn. Played a lively set for it. Here are the photos from her set.

by teepoo I also managed to catch Louise Burns' set at the Drake. She looks so young and cute! Members of Gold and Youth also joined in her set. She performed tracks off her album Mellow Drama . They were great songs but I felt like the set needed a bit more life. Maybe she was just tired after SXSW. Louise Burns- What Do You Wanna Do?

Katie Sadie So yeah, Canadian Musicfest kind of screwed me over this year. For the past however many years, we've had a good arrangement: Canadian Music Week, as it was once know, runs the week before SXSW and allows me to a) get into some semblance of game shape for a club-hopping festival, b) check out some bands that I might otherwise have to find time to see in Austin, and c) allow me to build up a backlog of content to allow me to keep posting while I'm experiencing taco country. by teepoo Louise Burns "Drop Names Not Bombs" from Light Organ Records on Vimeo . Here's the latest video from Louise Burns for Drop Names Not Bombs off her album Mellow Drama . I'd love to Karaoke at a place that has indie music. Hah! iTunes
Filed under: Video of the Day Artist: Louise Burns Video: 'Drop Names Not Bombs' Highlight: "We liked the idea of doing a 'fun' video, as in getting our friends drunk and doing karaoke, but also tapping into a darker side; where something feels a bit off," Louise Burns tells Spinner. "Kind of like the little girl in ' Poltergeist ' watching static on her TV. In our case, there's a poltergeist in the karaoke video in the form of me (haha). The [...]

Todd V Wolfson I feel that I should say up front that any reservations I have about Kathleen Edwards and her work are entirely my own issues. Since her 2002 debut Failer , I've enjoyed her honest, roots-rock fare but always felt like I expected more from her creatively even though across her first three albums, she'd never shown any signs that she had ambitions beyond being a good singer-songwriter. That said, the fact that she spent her downtime following 20082s Asking For Flowers [...]

I know, I know. Lists are annoying and trying to assign rankings and value to art is subjective at best. That's why these records - 25 from releases that really made an impact on me in '11 - aren't branded with any type of distinction other than "favorite." These are records, not songs, that warmed my heart, eased my pain, inspired my creativity or simply helped tap my toe or nod my head. They never asked for anything more than a listen, and I was more than happy to oblige. That being said, there [...]

Idée Fixe When you've spent much of your life doing one thing, and that one thing draws to a close, it's not unreasonable to decide to do something completely the opposite next. So for Bry Webb to make his first post- Constantines record Provider a quiet, mainly acoustic affair only stands to reason - particularly for anyone who heard him operating as Harbourcoats before the Cons went on hiatus. But to suggest that Provider is just the Cons frontman gone unplugged is a grave [...]

Frank Yang Just as a point of reference, when someone IMs you late on a Friday afternoon and asks, "do you want to go see Feist at the CBC's Glenn Gould Studio tomorrow night?", the only appropriate answer is yes. And so it was that after assuming that it'd be too much trouble to finagle one of the hottest tickets in a long weekend with no shortage of hot tickets, one was handed to me. No I'm not bragging. Okay I'm bragging a little. But the point being that I didn't expect [...]

Rachel Lee Tentcher It was just a couple nights ago that the cream of the Canadian music crop was honoured (one twenty-eight thousand times more than the others) at the Polaris Music Prize gala, but with those (mostly) veteran acts having gotten their moment in the spotlight, what say we take a look at some local talent that's a little closer to the grassroots level? In particular, the roots of the grass up in Newmarket, 'round the north end of Toronto around where the 905 begins to give way to the 705. [...]

Kandle Osborne When I last wrote up Timber Timbre back in March , shortly before the release of their latest Creep On Creepin' On , I commented on how unlikely it seemed that the Toronto trio's murky goth-blues should make them stars (relatively speaking), but how that seemed to be exactly what was going to happen. And indeed, it's been a good 2011 for them, to say the least. The decidedly positive critical response and popular demand kept the band on the road through all of [...]
Filed under: News , R.I.P. AP Jack Layton, the leader of Canada's New Democratic Party and the country's Official Opposition, died Aug. 22 at his Toronto home after a battle with cancer. He was 61. Layton's sudden passing has rocked the nation, with musicians like Broken Social Scene 's Kevin Drew and more taking to Twitter to reflect upon his life and the amazing man he was (which you can get a sense from while [...]
