So far i've seen, in order: Love as Laughter, M. Ward, The Whigs, Britt Daniel, Built to Spill, Typhoon, Valiant Arms, Crooked Fingers. And i saw some totally kick ass band playing at Berbati's pan tonight, but i have no idea who they were and I can't figure it out. i stood next to Bobby Bare jr during at the Crooked Fingers show and asked him who was good tomorrow. I got to breeze past all the lines with my Very Impulsive Person pass and it seemed sort of worth it at the sold out shows. [...]

Photography by Leonardo Getting a lot of great "hey man, you gotta hear this" albums lately from society members. And man, they ain't kiddin'! Some mighty good stuff that I'm pretty excited to share with you. First up today is Love Is Laughter and their album Holy . Good friend and society member "pomalift". At first I got a distinct yet quirky Beatles vibe from them (ba ba ba-ba ba!), but that quickly warshed away. Really don't know how to describe this one, tons of influences [...]

Love As Laughter - All Parts of Me. What do you do when you're an influential band that's overshadowed by your peers? When those same peers offer you a handout, do you take it? When you're indie-rock also-ran, Sam Jayne, the answer is yes. His new album, Holy, is on Isaac Brock's Glacial Pace label. This is a good thing. But even still, it'll probably fly under the radar just like his last one on Sub Pop did, and the one before that. Perhaps it's because the line-up changes frequently, and the live show is something of a scrappy, loose,...
Monday: Deer Tick + Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson @ Southpaw 7:30pm $8 Two of the new boys on the block are starting to get their names heard loud and clear in these parts. Both Deer Tick and Miles Benjamin Anthony Robinson are up-and-comers that me be close to the coming if you catch my drift. Anyhow, these two sharing the same stage should be just what you need to forget the first day back to

Mount Eerie is at it again folks. The band known for their dark, hard rocking ways have once again put it together on what is quickly becoming a fave around these parts. It rocks hard, it has it's weird lyrics, and it never stops luring me further in. I was a little put off by the track "Don't Smoke", but my personal afflictions have no real place in a pre-review. I've only gone through the album

While Modest Mouse are filling up their entire summer with tour dates to every country, state, and city that I don't dwell in - I'm remaining hopeful that the entire month of July and (most of) August are uncharted for a reason. I've seen them enough to suffice a lifetime but not with this new Marr character who, by the way, is now designing sneakers ? Regardless of their tour and fashion shenanigans, Love As Laughter has been Brock's consistent choice of a touring compadre. The connections between the [...]
On their myspace Love As Laughter describe their music as tropical among other things. And do you know what it kinda fits when you listen to the simple charms of 'Dirty Lives'. There'll be no labouring over complex lyrics or ingenious chord structures on this little ditty as it pretty much does what you'd expect from a chirpy indie number. Wonder how it's going to play beside Modest Mouse's

It was fun while it lasted, but Sub Pop Week is coming to an end. Given that there are so many great bands on the label, there really was no way to feature all of them, but that is okay because A) I'll be able to still post the other artists later, just not for Sub Pop Week and B) The only way to really end this thing properly is with a Sub Pop Mix. By the way, what do you think of my Photoshop skills? Jealous, aren't you. So anyway, here you have it: [...]

So I'm back. Well, kind of. I got back from Chicago early Tuesday morning, and I've just gotten so much shit piled on to my to-do list that I haven't quite found time to post. It's okay, though. I'm gettin' there. And by the way, wasn't Pitchfork just fucking amazing? Liars, The Futureheads, and Yo La Tengo were in my top three, and Art Brut were pretty crazy too. And while Alex was busy hanging with the Liars (lucky bastard) I was busy haggling my ass off at the record fair (did I [...]
