Silverlake Jubilee 's second day went off without a hitch, and attending the festival on Sunday seemed to be the perfect way to wind down before the work week ahead. The food trucks were still ready to serve, local music traveled through the air and the sun and breeze made the festival seem like a spring fling. ||| Photos by Laurie Scavo Despite the weekend coming to an end, bands played like it was Friday night and ignored the June gloom just waiting in the [...]

It's been a while since we've heard from Love Grenades ' sizzling Elizabeth Wight. It was almost two years ago that Wight had become Sam Sparro's sassy and promising protegé with New Wave-influenced singles, "Young Lovers" and "Tiger in the Fire," putting her on the L.A. dance-club map. With her witty and fast-paced lyrics paying homage to her native city, electronic beats sprinkled around her sultry vocals and looks of a vintage pin-up beauty, it suggested Love Grenades would become our very own Glass Candy. However, Wight has kept it pretty-low key since then by spending time on her [...]
This installment of our intermittent mixtapes, The Buzzsicle, Vol. 13, is devoted to the weekend's second annual Silverlake Jubilee , which gives you a lot of bang for 5 bucks. Enjoy. ||| Download: The Buzzsicle 13 (84 MB) After the jump, the tracklisting: Songs by 18 of the bands playing the 2011 Silverlake Jubilee, May 21-22. Mix curated by [...]

It's almost that time of year again. My favorite festival of the year is coming up so grab your tent, a ton of water and head out to the desert. This year we will be hailing under the stars with The Like , Swahili Blonde , Afghan Raiders , Love Grenades , Juliette Commagere , Sister Crayon , Gangi , Papercranes , Amanda Jo Williams , Dante vs. Zombies , [...]

The guitarlicious five-piece Vanaprasta has been on our short list of L.A. indie rockers to watch for about a year , and this month's release of its "Healthy Geometry" EP did nothing to make our interest wane. Now the quintet has recorded a cover of LCD Soundsystem's "All My Friends" — a track that was covered, rather notably, in 2007 by a guitar band named Franz Ferdinand. Vanaprasta might very well have one-upped the British lads, turning the song almost neurotic with its scratchy guitar licks. The song will appear on the forthcoming charity compilation [...]

Aye, so I just decided to invent a new name for Tuesday posts. Gonna stick up two tracks that we currently can't get enough of. The first track is my choice. It's 'Disconnected' by Shy Child . We used to play their dancefloor smasher 'Drop The Phone' loads back in the day. Usually as a response to a request from Erin or Matt . The last Shy Child album was pretty good, but the new long player Liquid Love is freakin' awesome. It's way more melodic, and even rips of [...]

Love Grenades is one of the hottest new things to come from the Hollywood music scene. These Sunset hipsters put out a distinct brand of sultry disco-pop that is at times is reminiscent of classic italo disco and '80s glam. These are some potent ingredients that mix well with Liz Wright's sultry vocals that have been compared to a young Annie Lennox. Their EP "Tigers In The Fire" has been floating around for a couple of years, but if you're curious about the some of their new work, check out a totally guilt-free download of the [...]
