I don't know when the last time vinyl was played on KSVR, but by the state of the record players it may have been quite a while. I dropped by the studio mid day on Friday to make sure the turntables worked properly, then came home and put together a split show. The first half, Halloween-ish songs (even if only in name, some only by their haunting sound) followed by half a show of more dance-y, electronic and remix tracks. Next week, I'm planning to have my buddy Brett join me for a 90s vinyl night. [...]

Another variety show, no particular theme. It was set to be a sunny weekend, and that meant hitting the road. After a late Friday night at the station, I woke up early, grabbed my bike and went on a solid 10 mile ride. It was the first of the sort for 2012; the first of many. I need to get in shape for the 200 mile Seattle to Portland ride in July. Just about half way, I paused to snap the shot above. The Skagit Valley is known [...]

Stuarto Glasser, host of the All Around the World Music Show, called me up a little after 5pm Friday and asked if I could fill in for him. Thinking it would be a great way to attract a few more listeners I agreed. I headed home and put together a playlist of some of my favorite indie artists from around the world. The first half of the list below aired as the split show: The Indie Music Show from All Around the World. I began with some lovable indie [...]

I have been waiting for a long time to tell you about this wonderful, wonderful album. I received my review-copy of Fredrik 's new album "Trilogi" a long time ago, but the release was for some reason moved to a later date, and my post had to be moved too. Now, finally, the release date is soon here. I saw the digital version of the album on emusic yesterday, but if you want the cd, you will probably have to wait until the release date on January 26. When I first [...]

Why does Sweden stand out more than other countries when it comes to laying down pop tracks? The Swedes definitely know how to make pop music. The Lovekevins are a light bouncy pop group from Malmo, Sweden and such heritage means beautifully crafted pop songs. This Blame the English 7-inch single comes with four tracks and album info provided in English, Russian and French. Blame The English Rhetorically - What completes a pop group more than hand claps and non-conventional rock instruments like trumpets? The Lovekevins [...]

2005 opened my eyes to a world of new music. I joined the crew at KZUU over the summer, my first summer back in Pullman working toward my Masters in Business. I'd spend my two-hour show pouring over thousands of obscure albums, looking for anything that might spark my interest. While music had always been a borderline obsession, until now it was just that - borderline. In the days that passed, it became a full-fledged consumption of everything me. There are turning points in all of our lives, and DJing at KZUU was absolutely one [...]
![The Lovekevins: Max Léon [Album Review]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/1699521_lg.jpg)
I get needs, you know? Sometimes I just need an ice cold microbrew. Sometimes, after a long and stressful day, I need to drink a glass or two of red wine (generally a cab-sauv or a cab-merlot) while listening to old jazz on vinyl. But there's one thing I need more than all: to discover the catchiest pop music available. Enter The Lovekevins , a delightfully upbeat pop group from Sweden. Their Max Léon EP is cased in a cardboard gate-fold slip with cover art from 1939 by Teo Lindau. Made up of Ola [...]

Walking man courtesy of mag3737 Dearest Friends, Saturday afternoon I wasn't so fine in either mind or spirit or body. In fact, I was feeling rather crap. I was still emerging, thanks to some heap powerful antibiotics, from a bacterial infection that for two days had drained me of all energy and replaced it with a foul cocktail of chills, aches, and fevered dreams. That day I had also received some rather nasty e-correspondence from a Usual Suspect; it matters not what the content (which was [...]

One half of the Swedish duo formerly known as The Lovekevins, now The LK, singer-songwriter Fredrik Hultin is branching out on a solo endeavor to win the hearts of kittens and people alike. His debut album, titled The Singing Well, was released in February 2007. Will probably be busy this weekend. So I thought I post a bunch of Swedes. Should last you for awhile. Smedby - Gentle Touch Once you used to - Gentle Touch Business Girls - Le Sport It’s Not the End of the World - Le Sport I Comes Before U - Le Sport [...]
School's out!! After all is said and done, we go our separate ways* and I amp up the written correspondences in attempt to remind loved ones that I haven't forgotten them (&likewise, a nudge for them not to forget me, either). *the RIYL crew is currently dispersed all over the continental US and Hawaii. One of [...]

Vancouver - I'm still trying to figure out this band. Formerly known as The Lovekevins or 'The Lovekins' as I called them until 3 days ago, The LK Formed in 2003 in Malmö*, Sweden as an art/music collective. They released 2 EP's of jangly indie pop reminiscent of The Lucksmiths and early The Acid House Kings (their gem of a song 'soviet.se' has been featured on a bunch of compilations, I'll post it below so you can listen). After a shuffle in the band line up in 2006, they felt they needed to change not only their name but their [...]

We're back from break and rearing to go. There's already a ton of great new Swedish music I'm excited to be writing about. These two artists are a tremendous way top start 2008. The LK's blend of sugary pop and electronic beats rang a bell with me. I guess it shouldn't have taken a genius to figure out that this new Swedish duo is just The Lovekevins ( here , here ) re-branded. In fact the US release on Kora Records is actually just a re-release of 2007's [...]

The Radio - One of Two Ways The Radio is the studio project of Stephen Murray (formerly guitarist with one-of-the-best-Irish-bands-of -all-time Rollerskate Skinny), in which he composes incredibly catchy ditties and enlists various females to contribute gorgeous vocals. 'One Of Two Ways' is so angular it could take your eye out, and its crispness suggests that Murray's shoegazing days are well and truly behind him. The most wonderful and concise definition of 'art rock' yet. Oh No Ono - Keeping Cold In Warm Country [...]

The Saturday round-up of all things good in the Indie world. Our top tracks of the week. If you think "Hey, this sounds good, I'd like to own a copy of this!" whilst listening to any of the tracks, then just click on the album cover :) Happy listening. Mumm-Ra Why on earth this band aren't massive around the Blogosphere yet is beyond me. They are precisely the sort of band that you will want to [...]
At first listen, I thought Lovekevins is an electro pop band from Japan. I think it is the way the singer pronounces the words in English, the random jokey lyrics, video game inspired beats and the overall cutesy vibe that I get. The beats and samples they used are familiar but the...
