They are called Low vs. Diamond and on their self-titled debut album, I think "diamond" wins out because this is a gem of a record. Not to get all cliché on you, but it's the truth. You know it's good right from the start when drummer Howie Diamond steadily carries you into the sad story [...]
Low Vs. Diamond, "Heart Attack" (Live on WFNX) LA hearthrobs stopped by scenic Lynn, MA to play a couple songs for the Sandbox dudes. Here's the good one, stripped down to words and guitar.
This has to be the best release week this year and this month has already had some good ones. The albums that are out this week, are all just so amazing that it would be a disservice to choose a few to tout over all the others. The electronic rock aficionados will be happy to know that there is plenty to choose from this week, but they do not dominate the entire list. Make your way down the list and try to listen to them all, because I guarantee that you will be seeing many of them again when end [...]

It's always such a pleasure to work on the Daily Graboid and find a week full of great releases, which happens to be the case this week after a rather lackluster previous week (the reason for no Graboid). A few highlighted albums include Brendan Canning's solo debut Something For All of Us , The Avett Brothers' Second Gleam , Bodies of Water's A Certain Feeling , Benji Hughes' double album A Love Extreme , CSS' sophomore follow-up Donkey , Paul Weller's [...]
It's another great week for releases: Black Kids finally let loose their debut full-length, while Paul Weller , Dr. Dog , CSS , and ¡Forward, Russia! all return with new LPs of their own. The CD version of Nine Inch Nails ' The Slip arrives as a limited digipak with a live DVD, not available with the free version. The Avett Brothers , The Clientele , and The Brian Jonestown Massacre weigh in with new EPs. This week also sees the rerelease of U2 's [...]
:: A Breath Before Surfacing , Death Is Swallowed In Victory (Mediaskare) :: After the Burial , Rareform (Sumerian) :: Alva Noto , Unitxt (Raster Noton) :: Austrian Death Machine (Tim from As I Lay Dying), Total Brutal (Metal Blade) :: Avett Brothers , Second Gleam (American/Columbia) :: Black Kids [...]

Looks like another great week of new releases. This week the new High Place's album, 03/07 – 09/07 , is the one to grab if your only getting one. Let us know if we've left anything off. As always let us know what you're picking up. New Releases, Album Art, Streams, and Mp3's after the jump...
Despite their current city of residence, Low vs. Diamond is not only a Los Angeles band. They are, in every sense of the word, an American band - with all of the members hailing from backgrounds as diverse as their hometown cities themselves...Seattle (vocalist/guitarist Lucas Field ), Chicago (drummer Howie Diamond ), San Francisco (keyboardist Tad Moore ) and the "Jersey Guys" (lead guitarist Anthony Polcino and bassist Jon Pancoast ). This melting pot of musicians was established a few short years ago when they formed Low vs. Diamond. While [...]

Wikipedia is a fairly good place to start when I'm looking for info on bands I don't know a lot about, but sometimes it's kind of a funny collection of knowledge. Take Low Vs. Diamond , for example. There's not a lot to be found on their wiki, other than the usual ho-hum stuff. However, it does list "typical jam band influences such as Dave Matthews and Phish" as part of the band's foundation, influences I never ever would have guessed from the music and thus, are probably useless even mentioning. Before you break out the ganja, [...]

HSB photographer Akmal Naim and I attended the Nico Vega and Low vs. Diamond show at Spaceland this past Monday, August 6th that I told you about last week. The show was free since it was the first show in Low vs. Diamond's residency at Spaceland, which means you guys can catch LVD there for the next three Mondays as well for free. Nico Vega killed it with an amazing live performance; Aja, the singer, has some of [...]

"Where was this life that you had?" I've been in possession of this disc for the past couple of months now. As far as I'm concerned, it's far too long for me not to have shared the musings of Low Vs. Diamond with you. While I still can't quite come to grips with the band's questionable choice of moniker, I am able to recognize something pretty substantial going on below the surface. Grandiose, orchestral pop stylings that remind me very much of Hamilton [...]

It's 2007, and the I <3 the 80's nostalgia has yet to wear thin. I'm sure it's on its way out, but for now we'll revel in the gloomy magic of bands like Low Vs. Diamond. You might have mistaken them for some dreary English dudes. Maybe that's because their four song EP Life After Love is only available in the U.K. Or maybe it's because the music seems to fit so well with our sheltered American idea of what London is like. Regardless, it's important to note that this band resides in L.A., and it's pretty sad [...]
