I hate the idea of going to sleep. Right up to the very last millisecond before I finally switch off and start catching zeds. And then from that moment on… I don't ever want to get up. This is my eternal struggle. Low: Website | Facebook | Get album on SUB POP

Baltimore - Every couple of years, like slides in a powerpoint presentation, I like to change the backdrop. But I have always struggled with first years. By that I refer to my relationships with changes in scenery rather than with hormone-effervescing fresh-women (to be politically correct as George Carlin suggested). I am constantly, and embarrassingly, surprised each time how woefully unprepared I still am. Incidentally, 2011 has also been a tumultuous year on many fronts. So with everything concerned, I present to you my Pests vs. Bests of 2011 - both bad and good things that have been on my mind [...]

Listen to new Christmas covers by the Civil Wars, David Bazan, Woods, Little Scream, the Bandana Splits, Saskatchewan, Coming Soon, and Aidan Moffat!
When I was compiling my rundown of favorites for the year, making some attempt at a ranked list, a curious thing happened—the list shook out by genre. My three favorite albums of the year were all song-based albums—and, incidentally, by artists I was already familiar with. However, I probably listened to #4–6 as often as #1–3, if not more: these are the ambient records, which I tend to put on while I'm writing and/or working and/or looking for something to sink into, sonically. Finally, the psych rockers pulled up last—Disappears and Moon Duo. I fell a little harder into this [...]

Another track from Madonna's new project has leaked. It's called "Masterpiece" and it is the new theme song from the icon's film W.E. It seems to us that she is struggling a little on the vocals and something tells us that this is not the final version. Click here to check it out through another unaffiliated blog. In a deserted, sterile bar, Invada starlet Anika stands propped up against posters of Tivoli shows past. One of these advertises Nico on November 5th of some nondescript year, and with said imagery imprinted on memory, the obligatory comparison can be concluded, considered done and dusted. Her awkwardness is amplified by the omnipresence of HD cameras that peer at her svelte figure from every angle, by the intimacy of this attic-like setting, by the headlamp glare of dazzling lights and mirror balls. Clattering through Yang Yang, I Go To Sleep, and Sadness Licks The Sun, these dub-reliant covers [...]

Like all the big music magazines in the UK, Uncut is publishing their top 50 albums of the year in their current issue and thankfully unlike Q, they have managed to avoid the monumental foolishness of putting Florence & The Machine at Number 1. They are also giving away a pretty decent cover CD with tracks from some of their favourite 2011 albums including Josh T Pearson, The War On Drugs, Drive-By Truckers, Wild Beasts, Fleet Foxes and more. Anyway, it is available at all good newsagents now and is [...]

Le Guess Who? machte Utrecht am vergangenen Wochenende zur Musikhauptstadt Hollands. Das exklusive Indoor-Festival überzeugte auf der ganzen Linie. "One of the better places for christmas shopping", urteilte Stephen Malkmus spasseshalber über Utrecht.

The highly anticipated album is finally here featuring a wide array of guest vocalists and musicians including Nia Andrews, Omar, Sheila E, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson, and others. MdCL's approach to music over the years has always been fascinating, blurring genres and styles, although never sounding forced. Mark states "My whole thing with this kind of production is balancing electronics and programming with organic and live musicianship. I love for that line to be blurred almost to the point where you don't know which is which." iTunes: Mark de Clive-Lowe - Renegades
New Zealand producer Mark de Clive-Lowe who now resides in Los Angeles released his highly anticipated album Renegades in the States yesterday. The album showcases Mark's diverse sound with a mix of broken beat, soul,
Nashvillian songwriters Trent Dabbs and Amy Stroup set the way-back machine to the late 50's, early 60' days of classic pop for their new, pitch-perfect throwback and shiny satin side project Sugar and the Hi-Lows . The vibe is both tongue-in-cheek impish and respectful of their pioneering elders as the duo and their band, as sharp as the pleat in Dabb's trousers or the heels of Stroup's shiny pumps, carouse their way through a retro melange of self-penned soulful, doo-wop slow dances and hip-shakin', sock-hoppin' rave-ups. As they say on their site, only two [...]
Sugar & The Hi Lows, the duo of Nashville singer-songwriters Trent Dabbs and Amy Stroup, tap into the heart of the 502s and soul of the 602s on their sweet indie-pop self-titled debut. A throw back to a bygone era, its also a throw back to Trent's Mississippi childhood. Raised to the soundtrack of Motown, [...]
As previously reported, ATP UK curated by Jeff Mangum has been postponed from December 2011 to March 9-11th, 2012. As a result, there are a few changes to the previously announced lineup, which the festival revealed today. To start, Panda Bear, Tinariwen, Superchunk, Group Inerane, The Mountain Goats, and Colin Stetson are all unable to play the new date and have been removed from the bill. What's more, the festival is still speaking to Fleet Foxes, Sun Ra Arkestra and Micachu And The Shapes and hopes to confirm their participation soon. As [...]

Download great new covers of A-Ha, the Rolling Stones, Nirvana, Neil Young, Low, Echo and the Bunnymen, Adele, the Beach Boys, and Nena.
A lot of times when I run I listen to full albums. I try to choose albums I know well so I can sing along in my head and pay less attention to the fact that I'm (usually) bored shirtless. I rarely compile elaborate mixes of songs intended to spur speed bursts or keep a [...]
