Between Lands & Peoples latest track occupying my ears and this new Lower Dens jam I'm about to unleash, Baltimore has certainly been on the brain. Fittingly enough, their latest single is titled "Brains" and comes off their forthcoming 2012 LP Nootropics . It's a slow building banger that ends in a haze of shredding glory. I can't wait to get my hands on the full length and think Lower Dens could be poised for a scorching SXSW run and huge 2012.

Lower Dens have announced details of their second album Nootropics, which will be released on Ribbon Music on April 30th 2012.

Baltimore dream-rock outfit Lower Dens are ready to unveil their sophomore LP. It's titled Nootropics (pronounced No-eh-tro-pics) and will hit stores in North America on May 1st via Ribbon Music. The rest of the world will get it on April 30th. According to press for the album, the title is a reference to the band's "interest in transhumanism-the use of technology to extend human capabilities." Just as I was leaving work tonight, this new single from Lower Dens popped up on my Twitter feed, and I am quite thankful I stuck around to listen to it. "Brains" comes from the Baltimore band's new album Nootropics and builds upon the atmospheric lo-fi style they defined on their first album, which I still listen to regularly. No release date has been cemented for the album yet, but it's said to arrive sometime this spring on Ribbon Music.
