It's been a busy day, people. I was up at 6am preparing to run the Los Angeles Halloween Half-Marathon downtown. I'll write a full recap tomorrow when more details/photos have been posted, but I did pretty well I think. Well, for me I did well. I did not set a personal record or anything, but [...]
Hello, star travelers. It's good to see you again. I'm ever so happy that none of you died this weekend. It would be a real pity, especially considering I only know four or five of your names. I should make a more concerted effort to meet the rest of you. The unwashed masses. The thousands [...]
Long weekend, guys. Last night I drank to get drunk for the first time in a pretty long time. My hangover this morning was so bad I ate a sausage, egg and cheese sandwich on my way into work, then when I got there I made my co-worker run to the coffeeshop nearby and buy [...]
wfmu : This is a track from Scott McDowell’s 2012 DJ Premium , Red-Hot Iron Ball: Japanese free-psych and ritual music from the Long Rally vaults. Swallow it. ( download mp3 here )
No better way to spend a Sunday night than grilling cheese dogs and brats with friends on Mt. Washington, drinking someone's home-brewed chocolate stout. I defy you to cap your weekend in a more enjoyable fashion. Holy shit I'm flying home tomorrow! That's awesome! What the fuck am I going to do first? Breakfast burritos [...]
H.L. Mencken said,"I reserve the right to be a lonely man." I don't crave companionship. It stands in my way. I live for pleasure. There are few persons who can give me as much pleasure as those acts I perform myself. I would rather create pleasure according to my own whim than be subjected to [...]

LSD March Under Milk Wood (2009, Important) RIYL = Boris, Ghost, Acid Mother Temple LSD March has, apparently, been a longtime psych rock import from Japan. I never knew, and as a result I seem to be a much lesser person than I otherwise could’ve been. So this, Under Milk Wood , with its black and white visual palate and its broken down psych folk branches, its beautiful, haunting Japanese cadence, is simply contorting me into another world completely. Some place with a rain of crows and crows’ feathers. [...]
I'm back in Los Angeles. I slept for about 10 hours and am still getting reacclimatized to this place. I'd like to extend a "Happy Mother's Day" to my mom. Of course, she's probably not reading this website today. She only ever visits the page when I've written something nasty about baby boomers or blamed my parents for making me a miserable human being. I don't think she's ever seen a positive note on this page. Oh well, I guess that's my fault. Also, congratulations to Nicci. She was in a student film that premiered tonight, and she [...]

Hey friends, this is my first official post as a 26-year-old. Let me tell you, it feels not bad. In fact, I wouldn't hesitate to say it feels "pretty alright". Thank you Nicci for posting yesterday so that I could enjoy my birthday. You're a real pal. Scarily, the first time I read through that post I thought, "Wait a minute - didn't I just write this yesterday?" I guess it just goes to show that anybody can imitate my style of writing, and those of you who leave comments praising me are clearly unaware of my utterly pedestrian abilities. [...]

lsd march bisyonure no kimi 2009 majutsu no niwa a gust of wind 2009 (française version) Le Contrast Podcast n° 157 se gave d'oeufs. Saison oblige. J'ai regardé "Easter Parade". The wild is calling. Hey, I just remembered something I learned in college! Wild, right? My 20th Century Media course taught me all about "synergy." When corporations try to consolidate their power in a given industry by merging or acquiring other corporations, they hope to benefit financially by controlling the 13 power roles that make up a given form of mass media. For example, when Sumner Redstone and Viacom owned Blockbuster Inc., Viacom controlled the producer and distributor/exhibitor roles, and the consolidation of power benefited the company financially because stores could stock more Viacom-related films (Paramount Pictures, DreamWorks, MTV Films, et al.). [...]

It's been a while since LSD March has appeared on this site but not for a lack of material. Under Milk Wood follows closely on last years collaboration with Kawabata Makoto and a few others, though this is the first proper LSD album that's really hit me since Empty Rubious Red . For the most part made up of their sparse, lonesome folk, with foreboding overtones reverberating in the air all around it. It would be an understatement to say that Shinsuke Michishita's world seems bleak; sunlight never seems to enter the shuttered rooms of his soul, [...]

Hey, is it too soon to change the main banner image text at the top of this page to "Big In India?" Because I just got mentioned on some Indian news website for being an "influential" blogger. See for yourself ! That's just one reason why things are looking very bright, my friends. It's a beautiful day outside, and everything feels right in the world. The Mets hammered the Florida Marlins 9-0 today (Jose Reyes hit 2 homeruns, Beltran added one of his own) behind two solid innings from pitcher Oliver Perez. Then I found some cool [...]

They're named after a track on a Guru Guru album. You're going to love them. Also, they have have released albums on aRCHIVE, Last Visible Dog, Beta-lactam Ring, and Important Records, and recently released a collaborative album with Bardo Pond, fittingly titled "LSD Pond". LSD March was formed in 1996 by Shinsuke Michishita, Makoto Inoue and Kohei Michishita. They were mostly a live band, and performed mostly in Western Japan. Before the release of their first album, Kohei left the band, and some guy named Bill joined the group. The first proper LSD March album was released in [...]

And on the seventh day, your lord (that's me!) rested. It was a much needed rest, considering the week both began and ended with heavy alcohol consumption. Come to think of it, the flow of booze was fairly consistent this week. And all the while, Sari and Nicci (at least I think...) have not been totally put off by my debauchery yet. Those girls are real troopers! They even laugh at my jokes, sometimes! I think love them. As for Ilya...he's used to me by now. Now here's the music. RULES for uninitiated noobs [...]
This rare gem of the Japanese psychedelic underground has been reissued for the second time. Empty Rubious Red was released in a limited run on vinyl in early 2006 and in an expanded form on CD later in the year. The album was gone before it was barely on the shelves. Tequila Sunrise, the label responible for classics by Jack Rose, Meg Baird and a few other nuggets of the psych-folk variety has graciouly reissued this on 180g vinyl in heavy beautiful packaging. The record itself is a kind of deep midnight stoner folk; like a calm smoke [...]
For all the gentiles who enjoyed their fancy holiday dinners this evening, I ask that you please enjoy this hollow chocolate Easter bunny of songs. Consider it penance for my people killing your savior all those years ago. What do you say...Truce? RULES for uninitiated noobs : With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be deposited on your iPods or Zunes or Kingklangs or whatever the industry is currently pushing on you. Sometimes there will be themes that link all the songs together, other times I'll just throw songs at [...]
