Morning everyone. I took my dog out to the bar last night for one last blowout before I take her in for hip surgery. We (by we I mean I got drunk and she chased coasters and ate beef jerky) tied one on pretty good and I should be sleeping it off but the goddamn St. Pete Grand Prix is practicing right now and the track it literally 5 blocks from my front door. No rest for the wicked I guess...here are a few pieces of news I feel should be passed on to [...]
Hi, I'm still staying faithful to the project. Here are 31 songs for the month of March along with the posts that I made with them. Also, there are some pictures for some of the songs, so hopefully they won't crash anyone's computer. They're not huge. As always, the month is posted here in backwards order because that is easier for me. :::: Monday, March 31, 2008 And thus ends the third month of my 365 Days of Song project. We'll [...]

photo : valerie@fremin.net Alt-Country, Punk Country, whatever you want to call the sound, it boils down to great songs above drinking, guitars, girls, the road, and broken hearts. Ask any Lucero fan and they'll tell you that Lucero is the greatest band that never really achieved greatness. They'll also tell you that a Lucero show is unlike many other shows, it's more akin to a party with Lucero as the house band, engaging the audience on many levels and taking as much part of the party as [...]
In effort to raise awareness about upcoming releases as well as finding a place for the numerous submissions we get, this post continues our weekly purging of free and legal MP3's for your listening enjoyment. The number of tracks will fluctuate each week depending on the songs uncovered or sent. It's our hope that you'll find a new favorite or another release to keep your eyes on. This week we're putting a twist on The Hive by featuring MP3's of some of our favorite groups destined for SXSW in [...]
Yes folks, it's almost that time of year again; one marked by BBQ, tex mex, margaritas, ice cold, Lone Star tall boys, and oh yes, music. SXSW. With thousands of bands descending upon Austin, March 12th through the 16th, it's helpful that the festival's official website offers up, along with the artist's bio, an [...]

On Lucero's recent stint through Florida Ben stopped in at out local community radio station, WMNF , and did some solo acoustic stuff on the Saturday Asylum show . Included in that set was a new song that I thought I'd post. I asked the band about the new album at the show Saturday night and they said they are gonna try and get it out by the end of this year. Lucero - What Are You Willing To Lose

There is no excuse for staying in the house this weekend people. There is just too damn much going on in our fine city this weekend and the weather is, all things considered, gonna be pretty mild. So, let's get down to the haps... Thursday Night Some of the people involved with Reax have started booking shows on Thursday nights at Push Ultra Lounge in Downtown St. Pete. This Thursday night Summerbirds [...]

Photo via The Guardian With Amy Winehouse proving that there's a British soul-revival diva market is a lucrative one (and also that utterly sabotaging one's own career is no longer as simple as you might have thought), there's no shortage of candidates for the "next big thing" in that particular style and at the moment, the two biggest names are the mono-monikered Duffy and Adele . Both come with the same set of adjectives - raspy, soulful, retro, Dusty - and their emergences onto the music scene are so synchronized that [...]

Y es I did head downtown last Thursday night during the blizzard to catch what was an unbelievable show featuring Joshua English, Ben Nichols (of Lucero), and Chuck Ragan (of Hot Water Music) at Schubas Tavern . Because of the snow it took me 1-1/2 hours drive the 12 miles from work to home and another hour + to get downtown so I (unfortunately) missed Joshua English's set, but everyone who saw it said he was great. His latest record Trouble None is fantastic so I'm sure that live it [...]

(Picture courtesy of Can You See the Sunset from the Southside ) I've seen Lucero a few times, but have never had the pleasure of arriving sober. This night was a first. I was dealing with sick offspring and my friend Moish sent Mrs. Moish off to a social commitment, so we arrived late and unfortunately missed Bobby Bare Jr . The benefit for you is that you'll get a somewhat lucid review of the show. We walked into the Metro and headed directly to the bar. Never anticipating [...]
