[Happy birthday to Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day — and Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins, both born on the dame day in 1972:] Top shows for a busy Thursday: ► Lucero (pictured) brings its boozy alt-country to the Echoplex, where Olin & the Moon support. ► Dawes holds forth at UCLA's Royce Hall — it's free if you're a student. ► The lineup for this week's installment of Shadow Shadow [...]

My Twitter and Facebook feeds were all a flutter Monday morning about The Grammys. The Black Keys won 3 Grammys and Mumford & Sons and The Avett Brothers performed on the show! Not to mention Mumford & Sons being up for Best New Artist. For a day at least, everyone was openly wondering who the next band from whatever our little niche of music is was gonna be. So that's this week's Top 5. Give me your opinion on the 5 artists or bands that have the [...]

I've got a couple of pairs of tickets to give away to see Lucero and Olin and the Moon this Thursday (February 17th) at the Echoplex. Lucero's got one of the most intensely dedicated fanbases. For the uninitiated (I guess some people still hadn't heard of Arcade Fire before last night) think gruff, slightly twangy heavy drinking rock'n'roll. To win these tickets email me [dukeufo at gmail] with the name of your favorite Lucero record. The contest closes at 6:00 PM on Wednesday. Winners will be notified by Noon on [...]

Beach House Play Two Local Shows It was a good weekend of live music. Yuck and Smith Westerns on Friday night at the Echo - Yuck really impressed me and Smith Westerns were good (as expected). Apex Manor put on a great show at the Satellite on Saturday. Lots of really good musicians in the band (and a great cover of Nilsson's "Jump Into the Fire" and a surprisingly good cover of the Outfield's "Your Love"). Monday 2/14/11 [Pick of the [...]
A rather high-quality video has surfaced of Ben covering "Bruised Ribs" off Joey's solo album, The All-Night Bedroom Revival ( available for free download here ). Original: Joey Kneiser - Bruised Ribs
Folk troubadour Chuck Ragan performed with Social Distortion and Lucero in San Francisco on Thursday, February 3rd at the Warfield in support of his most recent release, Gold Country.

(AIV Note: This was supposed to be posted yesterday but my dumb ass forgot to upload the podcast to the server. Der, I iz full of forgets....anyhow, enjoy.) Well, it might be a new year and I might have a radio show now but nothing really changes when it comes to the podcast. It starts nice enough and you might even be able to hear some improvement gleaned from doing a weekly radio show but it quickly devolves into a ½ drunk foul mouthed typical podcast. Don't let that deter you though. While my speech and [...]

The lead singer of Lucero, Ben Nichols, plays a new song acoustically. Just wait until it's supported by a full band. Hot Damn.
I've given up on the guest posts for the time being. It took a little over 2 hours to download the three T-Model Ford mp3s from my home server and reupload them to the 9B server. Insanity. So, until I get to a better connection they're on hold. Anyhow, tonight is another edition of ninebullets radio on 88.5 WMNF at 10pm Eastern and streaming at wmnf.org . It will also be archived here for a week so you will be able to listen repeatedly at work and home throughout the [...]

We're barely a week into 2011 and we've already got our first major summer festival line up announcement of the season that has us excited for the warmer months ahead. Earlier today the fine folks behind the Wakarusa Music Festival dropped a monster list of bands that will take to the variety of tents and stages over the weekend of June 2 -5 at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas. Now in it's seventh year, the jam-friendly festival will be headlined by the mighty My [...]
![[YTE ORIGINAL MIXTAPE] No Rhyme, No Reason](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/3096693_lg.jpg)
Here is a little impromptu mixtape of stuff that I have been listening to heavily lately. There is definitely an alternative country theme here. I did include some upcoming tunes, Tennis and Yuck. If you like some of the stuff, go check them out on Bandcamp , because some of the stuff I found as a free download there. Enjoy this weekend. ______________________________ ______________________________ ______________________ DOWNLOAD No Rhyme, No Reason HERE ______________________________ ______________________________ ______________________ 1] Adam's House Cat - Nine Bullets [...]

Ok so this isn't a rip off of High Fidelity but rather a nod to the movie that gave me the inspiration for this, almost, weekly feature. If you don't do vinyl then Side One, Track one is the first cut on a CD. It's not as easy as it sounds. Mine is Side One, Track One out of the collection I have at work which is more limited than I would like for this but some time's you gotta make do. You can do whatever you like: S1T1 from your current collection on your mp3 player, all time, what's [...]

This week's Top 5 is all about songs that have quotable lyrics. I mean lyrics that just jump out at you. It can be a single line or even the whole damn song. I think mine are all one or two lines and some are just because they make me giggle. This one was so tough I just picked out the first five I thought of and maybe that's cheating but there's just so damn much good music out there that it's impossible for me to make a decision. Anyway I want to see your favorite quotes [...]
