in terms of song as summation, of man / myth, lucinda williams' drunken angel nails it. buncha verses that get to the core of blaze foley and his fucked cosmology (but hell could have been written about van zandt or hank williams, steve earle or johnny cash in the depths of their respective artistic highs/personal voids). some kind of saviour singing the blues / a derelict in your duct tape shoes / your orphan clothes and long dark hair / looking like you didn't care / drunken angel [...]

THE WE SHARED MILK, YEAH GREAT FINE, CHARTS ( Beauty Bar , 111 SW Ash) Attention, studio rats: You don't need sterling, crystal-clear production to get your point across. For an example, look to Carole King's muffled, near-indecipherable but hauntingly lovely demo of "The Porpoise Song," which actually sounds like it was recorded underwater. For another example, look to SUH , the brand-new EP from the We Shared Milk, which, according to the band, was "self-recorded in two weeks in a Northeast Portland basement with shitty digital plug-ins and the wrong mics." Its limited production [...]

Indigo Girls FRIDAY, OCTOBER 28th John Hiatt + Indigo Girls, The Little Willies at World Cafe Live (6 p.m., $95–$190) SATURDAY, OCTOBER 29th It has been four years since Feist won our hearts with her Apple-approved, quirky tunes on her breakthrough album, The Reminder. Though her recently released follow up, Metals, still features the Canadian singer's watery vocals and emphasis on guitar strumming, her latest album offers a more serious tone than the poppy cheer of songs like "1 2 3 4" and "I [...]

Lucinda Williams is performing tomorrow night in Allentown at the Allentown Symphony Hall, and she'll also be at the Keswick on Saturday night. However, she also wanted to be a part of the World Cafe 20th Anniversary shows, so she is going to be making a special appearance playing an acoustic set on Saturday night at World Cafe Live, opening for Dawes and Feist.
