Now in its 11th year, the jam-friendly festie will once again be [...]

It's surely more understatement than hyperbole to suggest that Nick Drake was a man before his time. The Cambridge dropout who found Dylan and dope more engaging than his studies certainly impressed the members of Fairport Convention, who would go on to support his 1969 debut Five Leaves Left in the studio, but he only confused British audiences, who found the chronically depressed insomniac anxious and disengaged, and his ecologically-grounded poetics and organic chorus-less songs completely anathema to the world of sea shanties and traditional brit-folk with which they were familiar. [...]
*First off... I want to say how excited I am to have my blog featured in The Metro Pulse this week. The Metro Pulse is Knoxville's weekly free news magazine focusing on local news and issues with a strong focus on arts and entertainment in our city. This week's cover story is about local blogs and bloggers. I was fortunate enough that A Fifty Cent Lighter & A Whiskey Buzz was one of the blogs mentioned. Those of you in Knoxville know where to pick [...]

Big Hassle Last year , I wrote up a duo out of Minnesota called Now, Now Every Children who impressed with their debut album Cars , a no-frills chunk of indie rock made special by Cacie Dalager's winsome vocals, simultaneously sweet and sullen. I had been looking forward to experiencing that specialness live in August of '09, when they were slated to play the El Mocambo, but that show was cancelled when their van broke down for not the first time on that tour and given that apparently not many [...]

I don't know what I expected. Remember that movie He's Just Not That Into You ? I've only seen a few minutes of it, but movies like that where they try to impress the audience (your parents) by how many famous people they can get into one movie, but in the end, the movie experience is more star-gazing than plot-following: they feel like dirty tricks. And it pertains to Ray Davies ' collaborative remakes album See My Friends in that the assembly of duet partners is unreal. Beyond the giant names of Bruce Springsteen and [...]
Review of 'Coal Miner's Daughter: A Tribute To Loretta Lynn' featuring Sheryl Crow, The White Stripes, Kid Rock and others. Covers of Loretta Lynn's iconic songs.

Mobile Instant Photography by your boy, T ... Alright kiddos! Been a fun week back after our little break, eh? Weezer , Bees , Matt & Kim , Bad Books , more Bears Retweeting , and even a new Decemberist song . WOOO! Well, during the week, I kinda spent some extra time and put together a little mixtape for ya... Mostly new dingers that I've been digging, but, as always, spotted with a few [...]

Some radio DJs here in Houston had an intriguing bit going a few weeks ago: they wanted listeners to nominate an official state rock song for Texas. Apparently Ohio did that recently, and its official state rock song is now "Hang On Sloopy." Go figure. Anyway, listeners of Dean and Rog (on KGLK-FM, "The Eagle") could choose from a short list of a few songs each from ZZ Top, Buddy Holly, Stevie Ray Vaughan and the Fabulous Thunderbirds … and their winner was the Top's "La Grange." Official rock song for the entire state of [...]

A few months back we reported that seminal pop-rock band The Cars had taken to their official Facebook page posting a photo of the surviving band members in a recording studio with the message "anyone in the mood for a reunion by The Cars?". More recently, the new wave band - who have been recording new material at a studio in Millbrook, NY - uploaded a 73-second preview of a new tune called Blue Tip and according to Billboard , are "strongly considering" touring, though no dates have been locked in. [...]

For his forthcoming album of collaborative versions of Kinks classics, Ray Davies not only enlisted the likes of Bruce Springsteen, Alex Chilton, Spoon, Billy Corgan, and other previously reported duet partners, but he flew out to Oslo, Norway, as well, to record "You Really Got Me" with Metallica. Odd pairing, indeed, but not exactly a surprise: Davies first teamed up with Metallica for a live performance in NYC last year, where he pitched the studio collaboration idea to the band backstage. Also noteworthy is that the 14-track album, See My Friends [...]
