![[Introducing] – Whitehorse](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4035141_lg.jpg)
Tweet Beginning the record with a dancehall radio ballad dream entitled "Eulogy For Whiskers, Part 13 , Whitehorse certainly set themselves apart from the crowd of country-folk mix that seems to have suddenly permeated the country. What is perhaps even more incredible, though, is the follow-up to this lazy, tripped-out modern take on a ballad is unmistakable rockabilly rock 'n' roll with harmonies to boot on "Killing Time Is Murder" , which is available for free download [...]
Winter. You may not like it, but you cannot escape it. Unless you live somewhere where they don't have winter, then kudos, you have escaped winter! For the rest of us though, it's best to find some way to enjoy these frigid months. Outdoor activities are fine and dandy, goodness knows our new skating oval here in Halifax has been a huge hit by all accounts, but if you're looking for something indoors, intimate and musical, then the 2012 edition of the In The Dead of Winter festival is a must. As has become [...]

The personal union of Six Shooter artists Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet finds an artistic outlet in the form of Whitehorse which gets a release of the Canadian label later this month, it is of course not the pairs first musical collaboration, both have played on each others albums and Doucet handled the production of McClelland's trio of solo albums and between them they've gathered a number well deserved nominations and awards from the Canadian Folk Music Awards, the Hamilton Music Awards, Independent Music Awards, Juno's and Polaris. For this musical partnership, short album [...]
Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Exclusive Rock It Promo The second night of Toronto International Film Festival 's Festival Music House proved to be a success as Canadian musicians strutted their stuff in front of film industry folks who'd descended upon the Mod Club Sept. 13 to enjoy tunes and take advantage of TIFF festivities (namely free appies and booze). Although headlined by Montreal rockers Sam Roberts Band [...]

It's about time. A few months ago, I found myself attending a snazzy dinner at one of Niagara's fantastic wineries, sitting next to a lovely woman who was once a producer at CBC Radio 1 in Toronto, and having a great discussion about our favourite Canadian music, when the topic of Luke Doucet came up. We discovered a mutual love of his music, and I mentioned my long held desire to hear Doucet and his wife Melissa McClelland work together as a duo, saying that I could imagine just how magical their musical pairing would be. Whitehorse is the new project from Canadian indie rock supercouple Melissa McClelland and Luke Doucet. The self-titled album is out now on iTunes and gets a physical release on August 30th. Two songs into this one and I was already blown away. The arrangements are an incredibly vibrant concoction of roots, country, and other gritty styles. "Killing Time Is Murder", for instance, is a

This dude wasn't horrible by any stretch but it just didn't feel that fresh or groundbreaking. Plus points for having a song called 'The Ballad of Ian Curtis ' though, no doubt! Download Luke Doucet The Ballad Of Ian Curtis Luke Doucet The Ballad Of Ian Curtis [MP3]

Frank Yang I'm on vacation, I swear. But there's always time to quickly run off various concert announcements over the last few days and other sort-of time-sensitive things, so let's say I did this while everyone else was at siesta. And we'll start off with the most interesting to me, at least - that Ms Erika M Anderson, aka EMA , is coming to The Garrison on July 23 as part of a North American tour . Talk as much smack about Pitchfork as you like, but I'd not heard of her [...]

Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist Luke Doucet sits down for an epic 20 Questions , where he expounds on the virtues of Facebook, the White Album , and pomegranates (yum!) Luke Doucet is a Canadian singer-songwriter and guitarist. The Toronto Star has described him as "the best young guitarist" in Canada, and in 2006, he was nominated for a Juno Award for his album, Broken (And Other Rogue States). His newest LP, Steel City Trawler, was recently released to critical acclaim. 1. The latest book or movie that made you cry? The Kids Are All Right. Lisa Cholodenko [...]
Okay party people, below are my top 10 concerts of the year. Be sure to comment with your favorite show of 2010, because when you tell concerts, it's cooler! #10: Scorpions @ Bridgestone Arena – Scorpions busted out all the tricks for their farewell tour. I've always felt like I should have been an '80s rock chick, but alas, I was too young to partake in the times when Aqua Net, leather pants, and glam rock and heavy metal were cool. Not [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News When inclement winter weather kept Canadian rocker Tom Cochrane -- best known for his early '90s hit 'Life is a Highway' -- from appearing at veteran musician Andy Kim's annual Christmas fundraiser in Toronto on Wednesday night, Broken Social Scene 's Kevin Drew was happy to fill in. "Alright! We are going to do this for you," he told the capacity crowd at the Mod Club theater. Then, [...]

On with the show. To be fair, I would bet there are records that should have been in the Top 30 that slipped outside so I could give some shine to bands I love that are making big strides, but from twenty to number one, we have heavy hitters and top shelf efforts. So sit back and enjoy. 11:: Pat Jordache - Future Songs This one is for me. I love this record, walked around Toronto in [...]
Laws of Illusion is Sarah McLachlan's first studio album of all new material in seven years. Best known as the driving force behind Lilith Fair, the gifted Canadian singer-songwriter first captured my attention with her 1991 sophomore release Solace . Largely inspired by the breakup of her marriage, Laws of Illusion delves into a lyrical sorrow not heard from Sarah in this decade. Stylistically, however, the new album's pop sound has more in common with 20032s Afterglow than with her earlier catalogue. Luke Doucet guests on the new album, providing [...]

Luke Doucet - Brother There is a certain herd that blame the digital era and the 'shuffle' button with increasing the number of people who do not listen to albums all the way through. I think these people just have a bad record collection. Otherwise, surely they'd know that the 'shuffle' button is just a great way to randomly land on the good albums you had forgotten about whilst doing something that requires enough of your attention that you can't listen to an album in full properly. Surely. [...]

Luke Doucet's appearance at The Basement completed my recent trilogy in covering Canadian performers visiting Nashville, and I must say...I haven't been giving Canada the affection and attention it deserves. We went to The Basement looking forward to a relaxed singer/songwriter night, and we shamefully, put a stereotypical stamp on what we were going to hear. Doucet slapped us in our judgmental little faces by unleashing his mastery upon his White Falcon. Yeah, might sound a bit over dramatic, but it's true. At times, I couldn't [...]

Following on from 2008 excellent Bloods Too Rich Canadian Luke Doucet and his band The White Falcon have released a real gem of an album on Six Shooter Records ( Life is too short to listen to shitty music ), ten originals and a Gordon Lightfoot cover, the album Steel City Trawler kicks of with a pair of straight up rockers the catchy / clappy Monkeys and riff-laden Thinking People , track three features a vocal contribution from Doucet's better-half Melissa McClelland and [...]
