Late Sunday night/Monday morning, I posted 3 notable highlights from last weekend's Concert for Equality rally led by Conor Oberst and featuring a slew of Saddle Creek signed or related bands in Omaha. Included in that post were two performances by the recently reunited Desaparecidos and the new Bright Eyes SB 1070 protest tune, "Coyote Song." Desaparecidos weren't the only band reforming for the event, however, as Ted Stevens and the Mogis brothers also played their first Lullaby for the Working Class in about a decade. Thanks to a few studious attendees, more footage from the [...]

We waited a month (not to mention 8 previous years) for a Desaparecidos reunion and it finally happened this weekend, complete with two excellent videos to prove it. As previously reported , Bright Eyes, Cursive, Lullaby for the Working Class, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, and others joined Conor Oberst's Desaparecidos in Omaha in support of the ACLU's fight against a controversial city ordinance recently passed in Fremont, Nebraska, which intends to fight illegal immigration. As Oberst and friends believe the law to be racist and unconstitutional, they gathered for the Concert for Equality [...]
In addition to reunion sets from Desaparecidos and Lullaby for the Working Class, as well as previously reported performances by Cursive and Bright Eyes, next week's Concert for Equality — a benefit concert in support of the ACLU's fight against a controversial immigration law recently passed in Fremont, Nebraska — will host sets by Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, David Dondero, Simon Joyner, and more. Per an updated event listing for the sold-out Omaha show, one relatively new band that caught [...]
We all knew that Trent Reznor and Mariqueen Maandig were collaborating on more than just music, so it shouldn't be too surprising that two-thirds of How to Destroy Angels are expecting their first child. More like it: FROM THE NEW NEST: Trent Reznor and wife start new band and more. FROM THE NEWS NEST: Strokes recording without Casablancas and more. FROM THE NEWS NEST: New tunes from Arcade Fire and more.
For what seems like it'll only be one show, but still! They were awesome, also kind of a big deal to these guys . Pitchfork reported late yesterday that the Conor Oberst-fronted punk outfit is coming together again after nearly a decade of inactivity to play the Concert of Equality in his hometown of Omaha, a benefit whose proceeds will support the ACLU's suit against Nebraska's controversial Fremont law. Oberst is also re-assembling his long dormant Bright Eyes project for the occasion, "anti-immigrant" legislation something he's become increasingly vocal about [...]

Filed under: Concerts and Tours , News , Politics as Usual Just days after Conor Oberst spoke out about boycotting performing in Arizona because of its contentious immigration law, the Bright Eyes frontman has announced he will now spearhead a benefit gig called "Concert for Equality." According to the Omaha World-Herald , the show will help the ACLU fight the "Fremont Law," a similarly divisive approach to immigration in his home state of Nebraska. For the gig, set for July 31 in [...]
Zach de la Rocha may have started the the anti-anti-immigration campaign known as "Sound Strike" , but Conor Oberst has basically taken over. In addition to a new song and an open letter , Oberst will look to further protest some of the United States' more controversial immigration policies by resurrecting two of his previous musical outfits, including one we haven't heard from since 2002. As TwentyFourBit reports , Oberst's short lived punk band Desparecidos and his acclaimed Bright Eyes project are scheduled to perform at the Concert For Equality. Set to [...]
Between Conor Oberst's recent mention of upcoming concerts to raise awareness about Arizona's controversial SB1070 immigration law and his citing Fremont, Nebraska's "very similar, almost more radical" city ordinance in an open letter for the Sound Strike, we should've seen this coming: Old-school Saddle Creek outfits Desparecidos and Lullaby for the Working Class are reuniting at the Concert For Equality, a concert/rally in Omaha on July 31 to benefit the Nebraska branch of the ACLU's fight against said Fremont anti-immigration law. As Wayward Blog points out , Bright Eyes and Cursive [...]

Sorry, but this particular news item was too disturbing to pass up: via Switched: One hardcore gamer in Fort Pierce, Florida, who couldn't wait the 30 days for the [xbox 360] repair. He demanded his mother order him a new one and, when she refused, threatened her with a knife . The man, 19-year-old Roman White, had just been released from jail the previous Sunday, and is already back behind bars on charges [...]

Too tired to do much of any good on the writing side of things, I do however have another sleep mix for you all that is quite great for us insomniacs. There is something noticeably better about my sleep when I fall asleep to music, it's quite interesting really. I never wake up in the middle of the night, I feel better in the morning, and I'm calm when I wake up, rather than that awful panicky feeling. [mp3] Rosie Thomas - If This City Never Sleeps [mp3] [...]

When I'm driving home at night I tend to be too tired to care what I listen to, or at least too tired to decide. I usually remedy this problem by putting my ipod on shuffle. Sometimes this proves to be a grave mistake, I have around 6500 songs on my ipod and at 1 a.m. I'm not typically in the mood to hear Jack White tell me how the big three killed his baby over two power chords and a fuzzbox, nor am I in the mood to hear the 13 minute Chopin composition I spent the last [...]

(Photo Cred) I suffer from Insomnia alot. I very routinely wake up every hour on the hour from 2 am until whenever I decide to get out of bed, this is what I listened to last night/this morning in an attempt to remedy this problem. The crazy part is it actually worked so I figured I should share it. Even if you don't share my problem these songs are all fantastic [mp3] Explosions in the Sky - Day Eight [mp3] Denison Witmer - Everything [...]
