VICE RECORDS SIGNS LULLABYE ARKESTRA & ANNOUNCES UPCOMING ALBUM THREATS / WORSHIP DUO TO RELEASE SOPHOMORE ALBUM ON SEPTEMBER 1st Vice Records' newest signing, Lullabye Arkestra, is slated to release their sophomore album, "Threats / Worship" on September 1st. The husband and wife duo of Kat Taylor-Small (bass and vocals) and Justin Small (drums and vocals) have been steadily pounding out their raucous breed of gritty, stripped-down hard rock for the better part of a decade, adding and subtracting members throughout the years. For this album, the follow-up to 2006's Ampgrave (Constellation Records), the happy couple stripped the [...]
If I were to tell you that Lullabye Arkestra played soul metal, you might be tempted to jump to the wrong conclusion. You might start thinking about that dreadful wave of soul punk bands that swept through like a bad wind in the 80s. You might, if you were really unlucky, dwell on the embarrassingly awful sports metal / ska punk scene that became inexplicably popular a decade back. A lot of really bad things have been done trying to meld those genres. I'm happy to say that Lullabye Arkestra are not of that ilk. [...]
I'd make an April Fools joke, but I don't have the technological wherewithal to do something that would confuse you. The newest episode of The Best Podcast You Have is coming tomorrow! Wait until you hear this one, it's easily the funniest one in the entire Circulations Amethyst series. Mets/Cardinals tonight has all of my attention at the moment, so here is a quick (but potent!) mix for y'all to enjoy... RULES for uninitiated noobs : With 100MB of webspace, I give birth to a weekly Mix Tape to be [...]

Toronto's Lullabye Arkestra One of Constellation 's newer signees, Lullabye Arkestra , are a bass and drum duo who've been playing and self-releasing glorious slabs of distorto-soul for several years. They've finally recently released their debut Constellation release, Ampgrave . The title alone suggests that this hardly something I'd typically find myself listening to, but I must say, it's been hard to put down. I really can't even begin to say how awesome it is, but I'm pretty sure this track does it justice. [MP3]: Lullabye [...]

It honestly wouldn’t surprise me to see this end up on quite a few year end lists. For those that haven’t heard Lullabye Arkestra’s album Ampgrave , you might want to do so. I’ve seen this album consistently described as some sort of soul/R&B punk extravaganza, which after listening to it more than a handful of times now, it’s probably the most accurate way to even try and describe it. At the core Lullabye Arkestra is the duo of Justin Small (drums/vocals) and Katie Taylor (bass/vocals). [...]
