There's something kind of romantic and truly rebellious about a band that's gone defunct , like The Divorce or Ipso Facto . They've gotten over you Internet. There's no pushing them around anymore. No inferior albums to compare to their prior stellar work. Nothing for the armchair critics to project their own unhappiness, dangling participles and ill-formed metaphors on to. It's even more of an FU when they break up before releasing their debut album . [...]

How's the old joke go? Guy #1: "Where's Farris Rotter?" Guy #2: "He's standing behind a toothpick!" The world's skinniest goth has joined forces with former Ipso Facto keyboardist Cherish Kaya in a new project called Lumina. Their first track is a cover of a Black Keys' track called 'I'll be With You', which is considerably less 50s and cheery than the original . Big surprise! It's dirge-y and breathy and sounds like it was recorded in [...]

Last week we gave you three, yes three, album options. Given the current economic climate, factoring in the weather and the fact that we've no doubt you had a lot of presents to buy this month, we understand that sales weren't exactly brisk. We're happy to report though, that The xx outsold both Jay Reatard (he was nowhere, frankly) and Simian Mobile Disco , who snuck in at no. 39. So, where did these cherubic young scamps enter? No. 36. That's not bad given the state of radio these days. We went to see them [...]

Gothic Echo You may not recognise the name Lumina, but last Friday NME revealed that it is the name of Faris 'Rotter' Badwan's ( The Horrors ) new side project, which he is working on with ex- Ipso Facto member Cherish Kaya. The band's first release is a stormy Gothic interpretation of The Black Lips' 'I'll Be With You'. Wallowing in its own filth, Badwan's deep haunting voice applies dark alcoholic vampire-ish spoken word vocals above lower end synth notes and [...]

While a little antithetical to the group's prevailing sound, Lumina is the side-project of Horrors frontman Faris Badwin and former Ipso Facto songstress Cherish Kaye and stands as staunch proof that 2009 may indeed be the year for goth-rock to return. More gothic and understated than the waves of unholy shoegaze that was Primary Colours , "I'll Be With You", a cover of a Black Lips song, might just be Badwin's best track of the year. Check it out below. Lumina - "I'll Be With You" [...]

The Black Lips So let's see, Topman CTRL have in the past hosted such curators as Sam Kilcoyne of Underage, The Rumble Strips , Lightspeed Champion , Ladyhawke , and Metronomy . Are you ready kids? Aug 26 th is where it kicks off with a live event in Bristol at Start the Bus where The Black Lips are in CTRL and going to be causing a ruckus, roping in The Big [...]
A few days ago, it was announced that the Horrors would be teaming up with the Black Lips on a new U.K. single for the Atlanta flower punks' "Drugs" (off their album 200 Million Thousand ). The A-side of the single features Black Lips' "Drugs" and the B-Side features a cover of the Lips' "I'll Be With You" by Horrors frontman Faris Badwan's Lumina side project. Lumina's cover has just hit the net, and quite surprisingly, Badwan's reading is darker, considerably more gothic, and sounds like a [...]
What can I say about The Ars Supernova and their new album "Lumina"? Well, let's just say this, some matches are made in heaven, some are made to go straight to hell, and like in the case of "Lumina" some are lukewarm at best. Granted [...]
