Tombs' Path Of Totality topped my list of the Top 26 Metal Albums Of 2011 So Far . I was curious what sort of personal soundtrack went into that muscular, violent, surprisingly delicate and detailed blend of New York noise-rock, black metal, and industrialized blast-beat shoegaze, so I asked them to make a related mix. Before you listen, take a look at vocalist/guitarist/band leader Mike Hill's thoughts on his appropriately dark, punk, and very heavy inspiration playlist. He offers insightful background for fans of the album/trio, but even if you're not into Tombs, [...]
So 2011 is officially underway! I mean, we've two full weeks in - time to stop accidentally writing "20103 as the date on shit, y'know? We started to preview some albums we're stoked about, and will continue to do so next week. In the meantime, here's some other fun crap we did this week: The [...]

Well, this is terrible. Jef Whitehead - perhaps better known in the metal world as "Wrest," the moniker he's used while working with bands such as Leviathan (his own project), Lurker of Chalice (also his own project), Sunn O))), Twilight, and Nachtmystium - has been "charged with criminal sexual assault and aggravated domestic battery... allegedly [...]

Hey Revolutionaries! Black Metal luminaries NACHTMYSTIUM have released a trailer for their upcoming album Addicts: Black Meddle Pt. II, which is set to be released on June 8th. Nachtmystium recruited Wrest (Leviathan, Lurker of Chalice, Twilight) and Will Lindsay (Wolves in the Throne Room, Middian, Indian) to play drums and bass respectively. This album already sounds like it is going to be have that raw and harsh sound that they have been cultivating over the past few albums. Nachtmystium will be supporting Eyehategod, Brutal Truth, Black Anvil, Tombs, and Howl on tour check out [...]

From the very first hours after cables from the U.S. embassy in Kabul confirmed that a Soviet invasion had begun, Zbigniew Brzezinski, Jimmy Carter's most determined cold warrior, wondered if this time the Soviets had overreached. Brzezinski and his colleagues knew nothing about the KGB's fears of CIA plotting. They interpreted the invasion as a desperate act of support for the Afghan communists and as a possible thrust toward the Persian Gulf. As he analyzed American options, Brzezinski was torn. He hoped the Soviets could be punished for invading Afghanistan, that they could be tied down [...]

You're the only ones with guts enough to really care about the future, who really notice what machines do to us, what wars do to us, what cities do to us, what big, simple ideas do to us, what tremendous misunderstands, [...]

NEW POST. YEAH BABY. TODAY THE THEME IS THE LETTER L. Lurker of Chalice - Granite Lurker of Chalice is one man, the same man as the man who is also Leviathan, a man named Wrest (but he probably also has a real name, which I do not know). Leviathan is pretty much just straight-up black metal (granted, it is really goddamn weird black metal, but still), and Lurker of Chalice is his new proejct that is all about even weirder things, and not necessarily [...]
