The Luyas | Live @ The Rialto | Montreal, QC from A Story Told Well on Vimeo . [mp3] Luyas: "Tiny Head" In honor of our recent trip to the north country, we decided it's time to get up a long overdue post on Montreal's Luyas . This band's cache has slowly (more like rapidly) been growing, capped off by a special invite from The National to play their "secret" venue next to Other Music during release week for High Violet [...]

Cotton Mouth Black Hand When Martin Horn isn't slaving away behind a mixing console, putting polish on the music of a number of Montreal's brash new faces n' names ( Parlovr , for example), he's... Slaving away in front and behind of a mixing console, writing and producing his own music under the moniker Cotton Mouth . In the case of the EP from which this song is taken, produced for an [...]

This is one of those really special shows that only come around once in a while, that you'll definitely want to be a part of. You've probably heard that The National are releasing High Violet this week (I haven't listened to it yet, but it's #1 on my priorities list). To promote/celebrate the new album, the band is hosting their own music venue next to Other Music this week. Tomorrow is the first night of performers, with shorts sets by a bunch of amazing bands including Inlets, Helado Negro, The Luyas, Zachary Cale, Julianna Barwick, Talk Normal, Arlt, [...]

A couple of months back I posted the fine The Luyas' Take Away Show and now I'm returning with their track "Tiny Head." The Luyas have a new album coming at some point. http://www.myspace.com/theluya s http://theluyas.blogspot.com/ photo by Nick Bostick

Check out The Luyas, hailing from the great white north (Canada) with some impressive experience under their belt; members Pietro Amato and Jessie Stein are also part of the Montreal indie instrumental outfit Torngat and Amato used to play french horn for the likes of Arcade Fire. Sample their sound with this track entitled "Tiny Head." The Luyas "Tiny Head" Technorati Tags: The Luyas

photo by SarahBrideau.com from 2008 (in Montreal?) It has been a while, my friends. My once a week or more posting has been reduced to less than once a month. As the summer with all its rocknroll goodness hits I hope to have time to post again. I thought I'd come out of hibernation with something that seems fitting. Something that makes me open my eyes and shake out the cobwebs. With the Luyas I cannot remain still or dispassionate. Their vibrancy and urgency makes me perk up and pay attention. Their [...]

My introduction to the morning benders was at their opening gig for The Kooks at Terminal 5 back in 2008. At the time, I had no idea who they were. I was only there to enjoy an hour and a half of poppy British rock. Chris Chu and the rest of the morning benders left a lasting impression on me that made me leaving a bigger benders fan than a kooks fan by the end of the night. I managed to catch the benders at market hotel a month ago, only to find out it was [...]

February is already here and the music scene for this month is going to be busy. On February 1, 2010 Raw Sugar Cafe was busy with alot people which is a surprise being on a Monday. Playing at Raw Sugar Cafe were: The Luyas Adam Saikaley Things was kind of hectic due to The Luyas setup being insane with alot of instruments Finally got a chance to see The Luyas. [...]

Frank Yang It struck me about mid-way through Basia Bulat's concert at Trinity-St. Paul's on Saturday night that though it was an album release show for her eagerly-anticipated new album in Heart Of My Own , the album wasn't going to be released for another couple of weeks yet - January 26, to be exact - and as such, many/most of the just under 800 people in the sell-out crowd had never heard the new songs. An obvious point, certainly, but one that I had overlooked since I'd been secretly [...]
Following our tradition on this blog, I've waited till after the whole wonderful Christmas experience is over to start finishing artwork and writing up lists. Following from this, it's entirely possible you've had enough of lists and countdowns, but I doubt it. I don't present this list as an absolute and exact account of the best music of the decade; that would be silly. But these are the albums that meant most to me, and in the decade where I moved from listening to albums to favouring songs, they meant a lot. There are three more lists coming [...]

The Luyas - Motion Picture Soundtrack {Radiohead} Thom Yorke plays it, and angels descend to sing along and prove him right, that love is for crazy people, an experience tinged with white light and drunkenness. Jessie Stein sings it, and it's standing outside someone's window, delaying the knock because the moment feels so right. It's hanging around beneath a tree in the dark, and all that descends are heavy raindrops, telling you to go home. I think they're both right. This song is a present from the Luyas . As well as this [...]

I spent most of last week in Montreal trying to balance my day job with the heavy lifting we do for herohill, abusing my liver and neglecting my fatherly responsibilities. Before I get into the music, I have to say that M for Montreal is the type of festival/conference we could really use here in Nova Scotia. Sure, we might not have the sheer mass of bands that you find in MTL, but the premise was fantastic. Eighty journalists, radio programmers, booking agents, and festival promoters traveled from all over the world to be inundated [...]

What a gorgeous city Montreal is, a great backdrop for a music festival highlighting bands from a city that has been cranking out great bands for years. Future Sounds was invited up to M FOR MONTREAL and are getting set for a night of great showcases this evening - check it: 8:30PM NRJ stage (Cabaret) | FINAL FLASH (Montreal) 9:05 CHOM stage (Studio) [...]

The Luyas - Spherical Mattress If you've had one of those dreams, you'll know the feeling. A night when unexpected emotional intensity gets into your head, from God Knows Where. Walking around, with everything tinted and changed, same skin but a different life, holding hands, or carrying the weight. It could be some new love or just the memory of it, but it's enough to leave you disjointed and half-grieving when you awake. You walk around trying to figure out how something you didn't even mean to imagine could have left this gaping hole in [...]
