I'm just discovering this rather old track and album for the first time. Modern Sleeping is the brainchild of one Cousin Jacob, whose real identity I shall not reveal, but suffice to say I'm mad at him for not sharing this with me sooner. Ha. Anyways, this particular track "Tax Cut" features the eclectic-ly chilled Luz Mob who is way overdue some new material as well. It's a dreamily relaxed downtempo track and if you check out the album Positions & Practices For Better Living you'll find more downtempo goodness created with real instruments [...]
Luz Fleming, aka Luz Mob (sounds cooler, doesn't it?) was born and raised in San Francisco, but if I were to invent his biography myself, judging by his new (instrumental) album Luz Interpretations I'd say Frisco is just his current residence, the last stop after a long journey through the Carribean and Central-American area: it seems as if he had learned cumbia in Colombia, absorbed ska, dub and reggae in Jamaica and picked up some reggeaton here and there, before he finally added a jazzy electronic touch to all this in the United States. Sounds like [...]

Three years in the making Luz Mob recently dropped his inspired Interpretations . Luz himself plays a couple saxophones, alto and baritone, and the bass clarinet, as well as directing a gaggle of session players across the country. The not-so-unifying thread behind this collection of covers (yes, that's The Selector's "The Selector") is Luz's wide range of musical tastes: from reggae to hip hop, ska to cumbia. He pulls all the sounds together with hip-hop beats and strong horn playing. The strength of this album lies in Luz's ability to blend the live instrumentation with the programming without the [...]
I'm not usually one for instrumentals, but Luz Mob is fucking awesome. It's hip hop for the ballroom dancing set-Reggae to dub, jazz to hip hop, the album's got it all, really. No exaggeration. It's got tunes written by luminaries like Prince Far I, and covers of tunes like "The Selecter," originally done by the English ska revival band of the same name, and "The SFC" (original by JT Tha Bigga Figga). This is a great record, and it's going into my "Best of 2007 So Far" file. Mixed by The [...]

Cincinnati 13, Baltimore 7 Houshamazilli ("Championship!" - Sorry, that just doesn't get old for me.) came up big on a 40-yard flea flicker trick play and helped get the Bengals back into their divisional playoff mix. The Bengals O did just enough against the tough Baltimore D and the Bengals defense has also been pretty great of late. They've allowed only seven points in their last two games. Baltimore better be able to generate more offense against teams like the Bengals, Chargers & Colts or they won't make it far in [...]
