Between 2002 and 2009, Oasis went through quite a few changes, losing band members, getting new members, being attacked, car crashes, releasing good and bad albums, releasing their last album and most notably, "splitting up". I put that in quotation marks because noel quit the band and any reincarnation or continuation that Liam does will likely not be under the Oasis moniker. They released three albums and ten singles between 2002 and 2009, some of which are below. The Hindu Times: Stop Crying Your Heart Out: [...]
Being that it's the only rock club in Five Points, The 5 Spot is by default the Madison Square Garden of East Nashville. Despite this distinction, the lovable establishment is, shall we say, less th... Continue reading "Lambchop to Play The 5 Spot Saturday?" >

Thursday feels like the real first day of the festival, which is no surprise really, considering the fact that there are fifteen different showcases for you to choose from, or hop in between. Yes, FIFTEEN. It's enough to make your head spin, which is one of the main reasons I decided to do these showcase-by-showcase preview posts in the first place. This is going to be a night of tough decisions no matter what your tastes in music veer towards - you've got several different brands of rock and singer-songwriter stuff to choose from. [...]

A good time was had by all last night at The End. Thanks to the handful of you who came out. It was a lot of fun to finally get to see Ohtis play, Prussia was a pleasant surprise on my radar, and Lylas never dissapoint. Be sure to catch the tour in it's final days, stopping in Bowling Green tonight, with a few more dates before winding up in Bloomington (IL). On to some photos! PRUSSIA [...]

Whatever you're doing tonight, it's not as important as seeing Nashville's best band that could accurately call themselves something with "folk" in a genre description play with one of my favorite bands in the world - Ohtis . You might remember Ohtis from their track on Peace on Earth last year (for download below in case you forgot), they are truly one of my favorite bands in the entire world, and I'd imagine the pride of their native Bloomington/Normal, Illinois. They also happen to be [...]
How can you not like "The Night Before Christmas" story? It's such a classic and nearly every Christmas themed movie makes reference to it in some way. So for a rare treat and early Christmas present. Listen: Bright Eyes - " Night Before Christmas " (mp3) And for yet another version of Winter Wonderland, why don't we give Liz Phair a listen. Liz Phair - " Winter Wonderland " (mp3) More jolly tuneage: The Kinks - " [...]

With Christmas a mere four days away, everyone seems to fall into one of two categories; the bah-humbug types who are fed up with the last minute hustle and bustle of Christmas shopping, and those who are bound and determined to spread holiday cheer. Some of my favorite local bands apparently fall into the latter category, and have posted seasonal songs on their Myspace profiles. Here's a roundup the yuletide offerings from some of Nashville's finest... Last year Lylas released A [...]

Tonight kicks off the festivities for Next Big Nashville , so for the next five days there is no excuse for saying you have nothing to do. But if you're overwhelmed by the sheer number of choices , here are a few personal picks of bands I'm familiar with. Of course, one of the joys of festivals like this is discovering bands you aren't familiar with, so let this list be a starting point for you, and then go out and disover [...]

Can you believe that The Features - " I Will Wander " playing Saturday, September 8 at 10:15 p.m. Cannery Ballroom Justin Townes Earle - " You Can't Leave " playing Thursday, September 6 at 11 p.m. The Basement (American Songwriter showcase) Lylas - " Call Her Home " playing Wednesday, September 5 at [...]
Got behind; now I'm playing catch-up. Here are three from the mail bag (more tomorrow): Lylas -- Tiny Echoes It's possible that Lylas have more than a passing acquaintance with Alan Parker and that they most like Paul McCartney's work on the white album. It's also possible (always possible) that I'm wrong but that, even when you're tired and hungry and don't understand the lyrics, you can walk around in a relatively good mood humming this melody.

It would be accurate to say that the Lylas cherish the holiday spirit. From Halloween to Christmas, it seems they treasure any day that takes away from the ordinary. The Nashville-based band is led by Kyle Hamlett, a distinct songwriter who inherits multi-instrumental skills along with a dashing display of classical fingerstyle guitar picking. The four primary members formed in 2003, releasing their debut EP, Lylas "...Makes A Friend" . Their early demonstration of lo-fi and softly spoken folk/rock was recognized by local radio stations and clubs, reaching places as far as Tokyo after the international Bomba [...]
Wednesday afternoon I received probably the most lovely package in the mail.

Lylas Happy Friday! Earlier this week I recieved quite possibly the cutest package I've ever gotten in the mail. Responsible for this cutest of holiday presents was the wonderful Nashville band Lylas . Aside from the the chocolate kisses and candy canes was their four track Christmas EP A Christmas Kiss From Lylas . Consisting of two short instrumental songs and two originals recorded this holiday. Check out my favorite of the two songs below. [MP3]: [...]
Nashville really knows how to test a girl's holiday spirit. How am I supposed to be thinking of reindeer and snowflakes and sleigh bells and the north pole and winter wonderlands when the temperature is hovering in the upper 60s? Not that I mind the warm weather - it kinda rocks - but my cute red sweater is feeling a bit too toasty, and it sure isn't beginning to look a lot like Christmas. But at least this morning there's frost on my car, and I can't help smiling when I think that I'll be waking [...]
In honor of the holiday, we decided to share a spooky song or two in between our predominant activities of cackling madly and stirring our witchy brew at Red Blondehead Headquarters while the flying monkeys circle our heads before going out into the world to obey our nefarious bidding. Up first, we have a fun Lylas rarity..."Bit by a Witch" from their hard-to-find Halloween release What is Undead, Anyway? I love the "Dear Diary" bit Kyle Hamlett does at the beginning (it's pretty funny to see him do it in person) and at the end when [...]

If you're like me, you cant go to sleep without some form of entertainment (tv, movie, music etc..) I usually watch tv when I want to go to sleep but when I just want to take a nap I usually throw on some music. I most likely end up sitting there with my eyes shut but don't actually nap. On those rare occassions that I actually do get to sleep this is what happens: Im drifting, Im drifting, theirs nice music playing, an hour later I fall asleep.....BLAM! the nice, nappy album ends and something ridiculously loud like the Bronx [...]
So I just found out that Lylas are going to be doing an instore at CD Central next Saturday, July 22nd at 2PM. We're trying to hook them up with an in-studio session at WRFL, but I don't know how well that's going to turn out. In the mean time, ...
