Maybe you didn't catch our tour date/swooning take on The One AM Radio. Maybe you can't pronounce Hrishikesh Hirway (you're not alone). Maybe you think artists that sound like DNTEL or Digital Ash -ish Bright Eyes are lame. Well that last one kinda means you're lame, but, you know. Who's counting? All of those things considered, we here at the culture of me dare you (triple-dog?) to not like these remixes. Each done to death by tour mates Lymbyc System for a track by Hirway and vice versa, these [...]

Man, today is crazy for shows in the Valley. I'll be out at the Paid Dues Festival all day. (If an Internet connection behaves, I may even live blog it for work at riffs.azcentral.com .) The after-party show is headlined by Busdriver at Chaser's in Scottsdale, which I'll be at assuming I haven't passed out by the end of the eight-hour Paid Dues show. Also tonight: Talib Kweli at the Brickhouse in Phoenix ($35 ... yipes) and the One Am Radio with Phoenix/Tempe's own Lymbyc Systym at Modified. (And Roger Clyne and the Peacemakers at [...]

After catching the beginning of the One AM Radio tour a few days ago, we saw in person just how special Hrishikesh Hiway's music is. Currently the band is out on tour with Lymbyc Systym and before the guys left, they traded songs and remixed each other's work. Want to check it out? Download the two tracks below and then go see them on tour. "Mercury" (Lymbyc Systym Rymyx) MP3 "Astology Days" (Remix by The One AM Radio) MP3 [...]

While I'm in Chicago this weekend for a bachelor party (woot!), my fellow Phoenicians have a plethora of shows from which to choose. TONIGHT: The Album Leaf with Lymbyc Systym and Back Ted N-Ted at the Brickhouse in Phoenix. Lymbyc System - Astrology Days (Mush 2007) Lymbyc System – Love Your Abuser / Mush Partially because of time constraints and partially because I like to hear albums pumped through their large speaker system, I have quickly gotten in the habit of spinning my newly received albums during my allotted playtime at Reckless Records. On Friday morning I slid in Lymbyc System's debut full-length for Mush Records, Love Your Abuser , and was enjoying their captivating melodious music when a customer asked me what was playing. [...]
I like this band's name, but the music is ok. It's another winter music, twinkle sounding, crackling old radio effect, Vespertine-y, Sigur Ros-y and Mum-ish. Each instrumental track is made to sound atmospheric and majestic. Probably best when played to accompany stock clips of natural events from National Geography channel. The one...

SXSW 2007 list. Yes I know it's over. but I just had time downloading the songs to make lists. This one is the nicest so it goes first. It's a late nite list with consistent sound, very sexy, and bunch of post-rock in each section. I would post more info, were it for not having a chance to carefully look at each artists webpage. But at least the list nice. Enjoy. "I. City of Love " 01. Dislike - Alone (Ufa, RUSSIA) 02. Slot - [...]
Hi everyone! I've returned to the land of the living temporarily to announce a SXSW band that I'm excited about: Lymbyc Systym. This indie post-rock lap-pop duo from Arizona opened for the Album Leaf on the AL's fall tour and had everyone at the shows as impressed as Mr. Jimmy LaValle himself. Some of us were even more impressed because, unlike our beloved LaValle, they don't try to sing along to their instrumental goodness. You know I love you, Jimmy, and that one day you'll have my Fennesz-lovin' lap-trip-hoppin' babies, but dear [...]

Lymbyc Systym was a pretty cool band I caught opening up for Tea Leaf Green way back in 2005, and they've announced that they're coming back around to Chicago pretty soon in support of a new album Love Your Abuser . Not to mention that they're hitting plenty of other metros and states in the next two months... Here's what I said about them back then... Imagine the Benevento / Russo Duo meets Tortoise, and that's kinda what they sounded like. I don't want to over-generalize on sound there, [...]
The mp3 files on my desktop have been building up and I have been meaning to feature some of them for quite some time now. I've also been a bit rubbish in posting daily music lately, so I figured it would be a good idea to bring you 4 artists today. You will notice that all 4 of these musical projects have a few things in common. First of all, they are all formidable experimental electronica (

Lymbyc Systym - Birds (zShare) Lymbyc Systym - Truth Skull Lymbyc Systym 's debut full-length, Love Your Abuser, is out now on Mush Records . Despite the vaguely sadomasochistic implications of the title, these instrumentals are richly textured, tempo shifting pop. Particularly on "Birds," we find swelling percussion sections breathing life into simple keyboard melodies, creating songs that bloom and recede with seamless precision. If you like what you hear, Montreal's Hylozoists are making similarly serene instrumentals. Hylozoists - Strait is [...]
Tempe, Arizona's sibling duo The Lymbyc Systym represent another of the newer Mush Records signings (Bibio is another example) to incorporate both mood and ambiance with a combination of electronic and more conventional means. Like former touring mates The Album Leaf, brothers Jared and Michael Bell use a smart combination of vintage keyboards, analog effects [...]

I often find myself knee-deep in bands who want to be Mogwai, Explosions in the Sky, or Godspeed! You Black Emperor. I've many times been of the opinion that making instrumental music was a lot easier than making music with vocals and in that statement, I still think I'm half-right. The clarification lies in this: While making mediocre instrumental music is easy, making good instrumental music is as hard (or harder) than its vocal counterpart. It's easy to play something simple exceptionally slow, layer a few more slow parts on top of it, pile on the [...]

In my neglect of the local Phoenix/Tempe scene, a lot of great music has come or is coming out that requires my catching up. First up is the Lymbyc Systym , a duo comprised of brothers Mike (drums/electronics) and Jared Bell (keyboards). I actually had no idea they were from Tempe until someone told us when we saw them open for the Album Leaf. Turns out, I was spelling their name wrong, too. Not "System," but "Systym." (I'm sure there's a deeper artistic meaning to all the "y's" there, but it's [...]
Growing up is a strange process. It seems that I look back on my high school years as a complete world in and of its self. The romance of puppy love, the innocence of hormones, puberty, first kisses, last kisses, junior varsity, tardiness, “unsatisfactory behavior,†yearbooks. It was all there and is associated with that place that many (do to the fact that we grew up there and our parents
