by the bat and the bird

mp3: LZNINGER - toxic (britney spears cover) LZNINGER emailed me the other day and suggested i might like his cover of britney spears' "toxic". he was right, i do. these kinds of covers too often end up being painfully ironic... yet this one feels natural. LZNINGER finds emotion in those top 40 songwriters' words where i don't think spears ever did. of course it's the batty cover that gets your attention, but seriously check out his myspace , this guy makes some beautiful music of his own. sadly, it appears his last album is [...]

by Cover Lay Down

Going offline for two weeks means returning to an inbox in the triple digits, and though my brain is swimming a bit from trying to cut it down to size in one afternoon, sifting through the backlog of sound is made easier by the presence of a few true gems, and a few others with moments of greatness they just cry out to be heard in spite of any rough edges. I'll have video, audio, and commentary from the newest and best from my annual pilgrimage through the New England folk scene anon, probably early [...]

by Slowcoustic

So yes, it is Canada Day and it is the yearly ritual of a day off from work the celebration of Canada's birth as a nation. Let's rejoice, shall we? So more and more lately, Canada has been known for great music (especially in certain circles that I frequent in the music blogger world) and ritefully so. But how well do you know Canada? I don't think many of you know too much about the nation of Canada as opposed to it being where half your recent iTunes playlists artists call home. Lets cover some of [...]

by Sweet Static

Better late then never here is a review of John Sakamoto 's Anti-Hit List for July 22. Going to start off with Sakamoto pointing out a Jay Bennett song, "Survey The Damage" that he had up on his Myspace page but is now gone. There are a couple of tracks from his upcoming album, The Magnificent Defeat, up and a demo as well. I've like Bennett for a while so I'm really interested in this album. Up next is a Scottish band called Edgar Prais. Don't know much about them [...]
