E42s awarding-winning teen drama Skins showcases the lives of a group of Bristol teenagers. With each episode centered around a certain character - often times dealing with heavy issues such as death, divorce, and illness - you are literally able to slip into their "skin." The cast is rotated bi-annually, and series 1 focuses around friends Tony, Sid, Cassie, Michelle, Jal, Chris, Anwar, and Maxxie, and their lifestyle of sex, drugs, and more than just rock'n'roll. Partly what makes Skins so addictive is its stellar soundtrack. Usually staying within the realms of electronic, hip hop, [...]

Long time no post, there Skins . It's not that I've stopped watching the show, on the contrary, I've been enthralled with the series thus far. It's just gotten tiring complaining about all the original music that's been stripped out of the show and replaced with cheap knockoff. Of course, it might just be my problem, since that's my thing , you know? This week's "Effy" episode might just be the best and worst example of the show. It was riveting and full of all the drama that [...]
From the inimitable Elaine, here's a BBC short film set to M. Craft's Dragonfly. I secretly suspect this may be happening when I go to sleep, but one can never be to sure. M. Craft - Dragonfly

Here's something I discovered earlier today. New songs from M. Craft ! Some random surfing led me to his official myspace , which in turn led me to his own myspace which he has set up to upload new songs and demos he's been working on. Well, good to see he's been busy since the release of last year's fine Silver and Fire album. Two of the songs there are downloadable and are posted below. Diamond Mine happily continues in a similar vein to Silver and Fire , whereas Thriftstore [...]
The Cult - She Sells Sanctuary (Long Version) The Halloweens of my younger years were spent dressed as either one of two abominable creatures - a sulky thing wearing all black, or a sulky thing wearing all black and a cape. Growing up in the 80s, though, this didn't put me out much as the only other easily obtained costume options were those horrible mass produced jobs where the bottom half of

I got a hold of a Zen Vision mp3 player around Christmas and have been using it almost every day at work since. It's fantastic to be able to listen to new music while working and some old stuff as well. There are quite a few songs that have become favourites thanks to that Zen. Sometimes while slaving away I think to myself, "This song should be heard by more than just me" and that's what this little mix is, little ol' me stickin' my earbuds in your ears (if you don't mind). dwight [...]

Without any doubt the singer/songwriter to watch this coming year is 30 year-old M. Craft . That's what I predicted when I first posted on this singer and I still feel the same. It's simply stunning that he hasn't received more attention via the music blogging community. The Australian-born and London-based musician traffics in music that stirs comparison to Nick Drake, Simon and Garfunkel, Josh Rouse, and he even mixes some bossa nova shuffle into the pot. Craft began his musical career when he co-founded the [...]
Sorry we've been gone so long, things have been a little crazy. I started my new job yesterday, so there's that. Plus, after a bit of a hiatus, we're out and about again. Last Wednesday I caught Andrew Bird at the Bowery Ballroom. It's always hard to see a show chock-full of new songs when you haven't heard the album yet, but the new stuff seemed to go over well with the crowd, even if I found it a bit drone-y and bordering on (really, I'm not trying to beat a dead horse here) jam band business. (We have [...]

Here are the songs (or maybe that should be 'tracks') then. I've laboured (intermittently) long and hard over these, because it's pretty impossible to choose 20 songs from so many great ones this year. I've restricted myself to tunes that have been given an official UK release inthis year. The thing is, these probably aren't even my best tracks of the year, but they have meant something to me over the past 12 months. I'm sure that if you ask me next month, I'll have a slightly different list, but for now, here's my song-record of 2006. [...]
While my Top Ten remained pretty solid, I finagled with the rest of the list right up to this posting. Lots and lots of good music this year, some of it was even great. Brits dominated the list this year...
re-Crafted. M. Craft - "She Sells Sanctuary"

This night the monkey died. His skeleton has gone gangrenous with a toxicity that swells the night with green foam and odd light. Join the fray and tangle. Trentemoller - take me into your skin (the last resort, 2006) M. Craft - you are the music (playground dub) (unreleased, 2006) Low - monkey (bob mould remix) (tonight the monkeys die Ep, 2006) [...]
Perhaps at times I should stop gabbing on about football & glowsticks and just post some good music up. God knows I have enough of a backlog. This is a new Playgroup remix of M.Craft, forthcoming on 679 Recordings. I don't know too much about M.Craft, but this mix by Trevor Jackson is superb. It's blissful spun-out sunshine disco, and as such is probably being released about 3 months too late.

After a spot of hammock-swinging, my musical day on Friday started with M. Craft in the Big Top, where I remained for the rest of the evening. One of the great things about End of the Road was that there was a deliberate intention to give bands longer slots than they nornally would have for festival gigs. So more music then. This was the second time I've seen M. Craft at a festival this year, and thankfully I get to see more of him and his brilliant band than I did at Summer [...]
Here is the first 'Soundchecked' mix of mp3s. This selection of songs is featured in my debut column for Soundcheck magazine, a magazine called, surprisingly, Soundcheck. It's a young music mag based in the cradle of indie music, Austin, TX. Okay, maybe cradle isn't the right word... but it is the home of the internationally renowned indie music fest, SXSW. And if that doesn't make it the cradle,

A soggy wet Sunday morning meant an escape from the campsite to seek refuge in a dodgy city centre caff (the only thing open at 10:30am). But it gave us the chance to linger over breakfast and read the papers. The musical action re-started for me halfway through The Long Blondes' set â€" actually with their ace single Weekend Without Makeup , which is particularly appealing Pulp-esque number (how appropriate for a band from Sheffield). But that's about as good as they get really. They're a band who probably look better than they actually are, though set [...]
