Florence + The Machine got the Brit award for upcoming music star or something like that. Last year, the first year on offer, Adele won it. Those are some big shoes to fill. I have generally stayed away from talking about the band because I haven't had enough music of theirs to listen to. But, now that the album is out. I can say that the lead single is nothing to go by. Lungs is a loud multi-layered effort of an album. Unique and robust vocals laid upon beats of instrumental tumult. They are the type [...]
Call this purely coincidental (or lazy journalism), but we decided to bring you the news that both Au Revoir Simone and Savoir Adore are giving away albums upon albums of their music for free. While both require you to actually do something, the notion is nice nonetheless. [ The Machines cover] Savoir Adore is the newest member of the Cantora Records family, and has decided to [...]
No matter what the words may say no matter what the day no matter what they say no matter what they compose or do no matter what the drugs will do or the songs may do what people may do or what machines may do to you... you still have...

Growing up can be a bitch and sometimes I wonder about how I want to raise my own kids someday. However for some reason I am still grateful that I was raised in the City and not in suburbia. I'm sure it's lovely to have a backyard and a fence, but it's never been a life to commit to. Either way I don't wanna bum anyone out specially on a Lazy Sunday like today so let's focus on the Music...for the grace of God (hehe). In 1979 Machine released an album [...]

Okay, fine - it was bound to come out sooner or later (and I've even posted on the format before), but yeah it's true...I've become pretty addicted to reality television. Sure, I still have a couple long-form dramatic faves on tv (much like Vince n Axl, I too am a LOST-o-phile), and continue to believe [...]

I am not one for dancing in the streets (I am probably more likely to dance in the sheets) but this track evokes the type of energy that would force even the most sedentary mope out the front door. This track from 1979 by Machine was produced by King Creole And The Coconuts member August Darnell. There is a playful exchange of vocal parts and a gospel feel mixed with Disco stomp and soul swagger that lights up the dance floor. I am sure a lot of the crowd can identify with the lyrics as well. [...]

Okey, hey. I don't know if you have noticed but my paragraphs or whatever they're called work now. Awesome. Anyway, this weekend we decided to go to a secret bar, or student bar, or lönnkrog. Whatever they're called in english, and they had a party there (invites only) for a guy running for Sfp in the kommunalval , and some woman came up to us and asked what we be doing in this joint and my friend said: I'm a reporter. And by those magic words we were worth gold. We stole their [...]

Never work with children, animals or musicians they say. The latest edition of " Listen To This " has been in the pipeline so long one of the bands have split up! Apparently touring and making fantastic music is more important than writing for random music blogs... some people just don't have their priorities right!! (Only joking, thanks go to both bands for taking part). Music Like Dirt is pleased to have two of its most blogged about bands taking part in " Listen To This [...]

As Toronto based SureFire Machine gear up to hit the metal to the pedal for their self-titled release with up & coming producer John Nazario, who has worked behind the scenes as a mix engineer for projects with Nelly Furtado, Jack Johnson, & Jimmy Eat World. SureFire Machine will be showcasing a full throttle intoxication of pure edge chevy metal. Synchronizing and revving their turbo charged engines, SFM are leaving permanent tire marks all over North America. Watch them as they railroad a huge semi truck through your living room & set the tone for their motto [...]

There's a moment I've come to anticipate at a Death Pilot show: The last movement in the song "The Treatment," in which lead singer "Midian" proclaims, "The dead will rise!" over a steady, intricate blast of drums, bass, keyboard, and guitars. The interlude is at once hypnotic and stirring. But what really gets me is that I'm never sure what it means for the dead to rise. Yes, there's the obvious gothic horror reference. But every time I hear that proclamation--made so effective with "Capt. ?'s" gorgeous backing vocals--I want to interpret it as a positive. A sliver of optimism [...]

Just in time for Vince's birthday on Valentine's Day (which explains why he's so darn sexy), Lamb of God will release a new album this February, according to a press release that just arrived here at the MetalSucks Mansion. The band is working with producer Josh Wilbur (pictured above) this time. Wait... who the fuck is Josh [...]
(Toronto) A couple months ago I heard a Spy Machine 16 song. I liked it. I emailed the band. They sent me a CD. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle propaganda was glued to the envelope. Please, keep reading. These kids from down the road in Guelph can bust it out. I like Guelph. Whenever I think of it, I am reminded of the cool, hippy, lesbian girls at the Cornerstone who never wanted to flirt with me on my weekly delivery trips. I [...]
From a flurry of emails today: * Attendance numbers: "Though difficult to estimate since it is a free event, peak attendence times for PDX Pop Now! this year saw close to 1,000 concert goers at a time." * iTunes:...

Following in the tradition of Run DMC & Aerosmith, and Public Enemy & Anthrax (but, luckily, sounding nothing like either Limp Bizkit or Linkin Park), The Streets and Muse have teamed up for a rock/rap collaboration, apparently recorded during a "jam session" last year (and leaked this morning) annnnd...well, it kinda sounds like it. Keep with it 'til the first chorus, though, and then it starts sounding less like Muse and Mike Skinner dicking about in the studio, and more like an English Rage Against The Machine. It's pretty cool. [...]
