During a benefit concert at Seattle's Showbox Theatre last night, Pearl Jam's Mike McCready reunited with ex-Screaming Trees drummer Barrett Martin to perform Mad Season's single "River of Deceit" alongside vocalist Jeff Rouse (Loaded) and bassist Rick Friel. It's tough calling it a reunion, especially when both Layne Staley and John Baker Saunders have long passed, but it's the best they can do. As Antiquiet reports , McCready and Martin could be sitting on "a good deal of material already written that simply needs vocals." With so many fractured acts returning to the stage (e.g. [...]
Layne Staley only recorded six studio albums in five years - and yet his inimitable voice influenced an entire generation of singers. To commemorate his death ten years ago, members of the MetalSucks staff will be discussing their favorite Staley performances throughout the day. Although some may consider awarding the title to an acoustic live [...]
Everything about "We Die Young" seems to portend a different theme that would become an integral part of the Alice in Chains story. In a way, "We Die Young" is the perfect overture for Alice in Chains' storied career; the very first song of their very first album tells you basically everything you need to [...]

Do you remember the early '90s? C'mon, think a little... it wasn't that long ago (and things haven't really changed all that much, either). It was a prosperous time! The Simpsons , Melrose Place , and Beverly Hills, 90210 had all started its reign on television (aka the FOX invasion), the '80s still bled into culture only with hotter colors, and America considered the Middle East a plausible area for democracy. Funny how things change, huh? Well, if you really dig deep - and squint between the cracks - you'll recall the [...]
I always forget about these guys, usually go through a little listening phase of them about once a year. I guess the best way to describe them is a "Seattle Super Group". The band consists of Layne Staley (Alice in Chains), Barrett Martin (Screaming Trees), Mike McCready (Pearl Jam), and John Baker Saunders (The Walkabouts). Honestly just kinda sounds like Alice in Chains, because of Layne, but I fucking loved those guys when I was younger (and hated my parents). enjoy...

Song: U.S.A. for U.S.A. Artist: Carnivore Album: Retaliation Comments: Pete Steele is one big guy and he works out. He could kick your ass just by looking at you. When he was in Carnivore and at Sunday matinees he stood above everyone else. Pete's ideas in Carnivore basicall took Agnostic Front's "Public Assistance" x 1000. He wasn't quite Skrewdriver and rarely called out individuals, but the ideas melded with Venom meets NYHC was pretty engaging. Song: V.H.V Artist: Masters of Reality Album: Sunrise on the Sufferbus Comments: I found the original [...]
Mad Season - " River of Deceit " from Above (1995) Kudos to (the late) Layne Staley for giving mention to Kahlil Gibran's masterpiece, The Prophet ; a bible for the religionless. Get Mad Season here Get The Prophet here Posted by Jordy

John Lennon would have been 66 today (had he not been shot by obsessed fan Mark David Chapman in 1980). He was only 40 when he died, and I've sometimes wondered what other wonderful music he had still within him. I figure the occasion of his entrance into this world (with a bang - he was born during a German aid raid over Liverpool the night of October 9-10, 1940) is a fine reason to post some covers off the Working Class Hero: A Tribute To John Lennon [...]
