Hi kids. Happy Sunday. How was your weekend? Mine was good, thanks for asking. Last night I ventured out into The OC to hit up Pizza Port San Clemente with an old high school friend who is visiting the west coast this week. She was a bit tired after a long journey but she was [...]

With a debut EP featuring fifteen different people, you can bet that New York singer/songwriter Madeline Modrala has big ambitions. Cloud , a five track release that swoops from hip-hop / rap inspired gems ( Blood Brother ) to far more sombre numbers ( Bad Kid ), is choc-a-bloc with tantalizing arrangement s and showcases Modrala as a potential future star. There's a wonderfully disjointed air to each track, never quite flowing with the same bravado that you expect from music with that features clarinets, flutes and french horns, amongst other instruments. [...]
For some reason today I awoke two and a half hours before my alarm was set to awaken me, and could not fall back asleep. Do you have any idea how frustrating that is!? Well…actually…you probably do. I think that happens to everybody. Sorry for the momentary lapse in logic. I'm usually a bit more…with [...]
It's been an eventful week. Last Sunday I ran a half-marathon. On Monday I got food poisoning. Tuesday and Wednesday were pretty much a blur (a vomit-y Spin Art blur!). Thursday I came back from the dead and was able to leave the house and eat a meal. On Friday I went back to work. [...]
![MADELINE — HAPPY WARRIOR [SONG FOR PAUL RYAN / FREE MUSIC ALERT]](http://cdn.elbo.ws/posts/4574032_lg.jpg)
All of us usually soaring upon the glorious frustration of everyday life have been drowning under the frustrating frustration of election season for a good while now. As November nears, the shit gets deeper and deeper. The lies stupider and braver. It gets easier and easier to say on the public record that what's good for women is somehow not good for the country. The proposed policies about jobs grow more vague while the laws restricting voter rights and family health find firm footing. Horrific is the pandering rhetoric of people who believe that they are doing the strong, American [...]
As much as I want to, I will not be posting any cuts from the new Spiritualized LP, Sweet Heart Sweet Light, which came into my possession yesterday. It was lovingly packaged with posters, flyers and stickers, which I'm trying my best to apply to every available surface in my home. Alas, as the official [...]

Today's song is "30 Days" by Madeline . Madeline Adams has been performing simply as Madeline for the last decade. As a teenager she relocated from her hometown of Athens, Georgia to Bloomington, Indiana to work with the punk label Plan-It-X Records (Japanther, Against Me, Defiance, Ohio). After a few years and many punk tours Madeline moved back home to work with Orange Twin Records releasing several albums in collaboration with Phosphorescent, the Athens based Elephant 6 Collective (Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control, Nana Grizol), Phil Elverum (Mt. Eerie), Karl Blau (The Microphones) and her own Black Velvet [...]
Ellen and the Escapades - Coming Back Home Band Of Holy Joy ghost trip a Lindisfarne song. Clive Bell on Shakuhachi and David Barbenel on Cello. Recorded at Reservoir Studios North London 2011. Video Inga Tillere. Madeline - Dollar Beer (Slow Records Session)

Lizzy Trullie has been hard at work prearing her self-ttiled debut record, and at long last it has a release date of March 6th, 2012, First single, “Madeline” is a brooding nightime escape that creates a buzzing sense of darkness. Lizzy’s hazy and deep vocals present the narrator to these oft-putting, melodic times. The Washington D.C. based artist has a long career if she keeps making these soft, gothic love stories.

I am becoming more and more confident in talking on the radio. I am slowly developing my voice - my on-air personality. There is still room for improvement; namely in the transition from Stuarto's show to mine, but I'll get there eventually. Last Friday's show was centered around indie-folk again, with plenty of psychedelic folk, orchestral folk, and folk-pop as well. As started last week, two songs will be featured at bottom. "Notorious Lightning" by Destroyer off Your Blues "Shanty for the Arethusa" [...]

howdy! got a bunch of stuff here. firstly athens' madeline is gonna be playing the allways lounge this saturday in new orleans. so if you happen to be around, i highly recommend pointing your ass down there and check her out. show starts at 10 pm, me thinks... she's got a lovely newer record out called black velvet , but that song down there is not from that record. i waited all day anthem facility - left to defend off their [...]
For my money, the best singer-songwriters are ones whose music is simple and unaffected, with clear vocal tones, minds with clear eyes, and personalities with clear hearts. That makes Athens, GA, singer-songwriter Madeline Adams ’ Black Velvet a boon to these ears. Adams’ voice sounds fresh and girlish on this record, like a young Carole King or Joni Mitchell. Adams is young but knowing, witty, and not a little maudlin. You can sense it on the “Where did I go wrong?” refrain of “Dead Moon”, the record’s lead track. But “Hurry Up Pronto” follows, a much [...]
Heres a big one for your Wednesday. Sophie is doing " 30 Covers in 30 Days ". We can't fit all 30 on here, but here are a few that are pretty sweet! After you've checked these out, make sure you hit her site, and listen to the rest. Also check out her new album "The Rhythm You Started". Props to listener Jonathan W. for the find. One Fine Day - The Chiffons Dream a Little Dream - The Mamas and the Papas Pure Imagination - [...]
This is a vigorous nod towards the folks over at Under The Radar Magazine, whose staff often list their favorite songs of their month accompanied with nonsensical pictures, and a further chin tilt to our beloved Allison over at Radio Potato who displays her seasonal finds on the regular. These are the (secret) songs that [...]
Madeline Adams has recorded using just her first name for the last decade and recorded with a host of accompanying musicians. Her music has been released in collaboration with such luminaries as the Elephant 6 collective (Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control), Phosphorescent, and Phil Elverum (Mt. Eerie). And despite a host of influences as...
We've given you a couple of tracks from Madeline's new album, Black Velvet , full of dark twisted pop and crooning psychedelia. This is the new video for Red Light Bulb . "Red Light Bulb" is an easy favorite off Madeline's new record, Black Velvet , out now on This Will Be Our Summer Records . The song has a strong electric guitar, strummed powerfully and fronted by Madeline's deep accented vocals. The song has a new video courtesy the always masterful Clyde Petersen, who recently produced under Do It For The Girls videos for The Thermals and Deerhoof and whom you can hear under the moniker Your Broken Heart.
