Man, 34 years on this planet. So in honer of my mom and pops getting down 34 years ago, I had to enlist the help of my "brother -like-no-other" NO to bring you 34 tracks of that "Break ya neck , can't understand why I'm bobbin' my head so much good music" . So even though it's my B-Day , you are the one who gets the gift! Warning: This Compilations hits so hard you will be bobbin' your head so much you might need a NECK BRACE! Track List & DL after [...]

Back in Istanbul to dismal weather, too hot/cloudy/humid. We'll be back on track soon, but first a selection from yesterday's deep abstract hip-hop session which yielded a lot of good stuff from the last two years. It's very rewarding to visit your archives back after a while! image cred Jackson Conti - Casa Forte Madlib - Indian Deli Yesterday's New Quintet - Julani Flying Lotus - Rickshaw Lukid - Time doing so mean

So last night I had the pleasure of going to the Great American Music Hall to see the Stones Throw US tour. It was a great show to say the least. Peanut Butter Wolf killed it with his amazing DJ and VJ skills. PBW stole the show with his old school videos, but more importantly was how he played the videos. Watching him and the video screen at the same time was amazing, I would almost go as far to say magical . Maybe it is because I'm out of the loop when [...]
I could talk for a long time about this subject, but I would rather have Madlib lay it out for you. The beat comes in around 1:00. "we shop for .99 cent catches, its like we poured gasoline around your house and lit a book of matches, keepin shit hot for the 9-8 segment, droppin loops so fat like im nine months pregnant" Madlib da Beat Konducta- Keep Ya Fingaz Dusty (?) cheers Craw
We've always been late late in dealing with the passing year; but this time we're way into a new year. God only knows what next year will bring but knowing that lots of readers are still hunting good albums from 2008 here's one final post about 2008 with a cream of the crop selection and we go straight to 2009! Promise! Rest of the mentions for 2008 : Ursula Bogner - Recordings 1969 - 1988 : Jan Jelinek's new record label Faitiche 's impressive debut release was the pioneering work of [...]
As promised, today I'm sharing the second half of my Favorites of 2008 list. These are the albums that I wrote about in the second half of the year, and just like with yesterday's post , they're roughly in chronological order, not ranked based on popularity. By no means was this list meant to be prescriptive or an attempt to shame you into thinking you've been listening to garbage. Hopefully though it will turn you on to an album or two that slipped through the cracks while your ears blinked. May your 2009 be just as sonically [...]

Throughout the course of his decade-plus career, Madlib has repeatedly articulated his belief that he's a DJ first, a producer second and a rapper third. Indeed, WLIB AM: King of the Wigflip, finds the prolific underground kingpin's hierarchy well in place, with Madlib curating his own dream radio station for British label BBE's vaunted Beat Generation series, an ongoing project featuring such distinguished alumni as Pete Rock, Marley Marl, and J Dilla. The self-proclaimed Beat Konducta concocts a typically warped spate of narcotic nods for a smattering of both [...]

In the midst of a long day of watching the beginning of the Major League Baseball playoffs, I kinda forgot all about putting this week's Graboid up today. After a devastating grand slam during the Cubs/Dodgers game, I decided I needed a break and sat down to get this week's releases up before the night ends. To be honest, I haven't given a full listen to hardly any of this week's albums, so I can't really suggest anything in particular. Though, most of the sample songs I skimmed through have been pretty good ( Ani DiFranco [...]

Ok, it's about that time again, BOX time! Last week's All-Canadian edition seemed to be pretty popular, so I'll certainly to do it again once I get enough songs, but for now we're simply back to the best from anywhere and everywhere (or just the US of A). Anyway, I've been gathering some fairly solid jams over the last couple weeks, so let's get to it. MP3:: Jake One - The Truth f. Freeway & Brother Ali Oh yes indeed, now this is nice. If this [...]
September can be so depressing. Between the end of summer, the start of school, and the onset of cooler temperatures, the ninth month of the year isn't the most popular. But it's nothing music can't fix and in fact, when you think about, fall usually features some of the best new releases (see: In Rainbows , Graduation , and Magic in 2007). So in an effort to kick the new season off with a bang, how about a brand new edition of our Friday Mixtape? All we ask from you? Enjoy our mix of [...]
Besides being one of the most prolific producers of our time, Madlib is easily one of the hardest working producers in the music business right now. After releasing the third and fourth installments of his Beat Konducta series as one project, Beat Konducta In India , last year, the great Madlib produced the Erykah Badu hit "Healer" earlier this year and recently released another stellar jazz-fusion project with Ivan "Mamão" Conti, under the name Jackson Conti. You thought Madlib was spent for 2008? Think again, because it looks like the fall is going to be an excellent season for [...]

One of my favorite procuder/mc's of all-time is Madlib. One of the most prolific producers in the biz, and often known for inventing new personas, it is not a surprise that he has a new album dropping in September. King of the Wiglfip , the final installment in BBE's Beat Generation series, drops on September 30th. Featuring appearances by Guilty Simpson, Oh No, Talib Kweli and J Rocc to name a few, this album will give one last blast of summer before the weather starts to change. Check out the promotional video here . [...]

MP3 from Madlib's forthcoming King of the Wigflip album, the final installment in BBE's Beat Generation series. The album drops a month from now, September 30th. The record is set to feature Guilty Simpson, Oh No, Talib Kweli and J Rocc to name a couple. Mp3: Madlib feat. Pose - "The Ox" Buy: Pre-order King of [...]

Madlib ft. Poke " The Ox (805) ": Fresh new freshness from 'Lib's King Of The Wigflip album, which drops on BBE on September 30th. This album is gonna be fierce! Shouts to Adam for the link/cover.

I already made a post about Madlib's new album King of the Wigflip a few days ago, but we just got a new exclusive track from it in our inbox. From what I've heard of the album so far, I really like it. Give the track a listen and make sure to look out for King of the Wigflip which drops September 30th. The Ox (805) - Madlib (feat. Poke) Here's Madlib's official site

A track to check out off the upcoming King Of The Wingflip coming Sept. 30th. Madlib Ft. Poke - The Ox (805)

It's about time again that I just post a few tracks up for you, mainly in the non-UK Hip Hop mould. Yes, occasionally I do listen to US Rap, here is some of it: Two new tracks from Guru: 'Who Got It On Lock' featuring Doo-Wop and 'Knowledge' featuring Lord Tariq. 'Who Got It On Lock', produced by Solar is so 90's which is perfectly fine by me and 'Knowledge' is...well, quite 90's sounding as well. Also fine. Lyrics and flow are classic Guru. [...]

Bonk's Adventure: Sonic the Hedgehog for the thinking man. If you do not read all 12 trillion words of this over-long Top 50 list, Bonk will smack you upside the head with his club. 25. Wu-Tang Clan- 8 Diagrams [ SRC/Loud] 8 Diagrams is east coast hardcore rap that doesn't sound like it was made on the east coast. It [...]
It's no secret that I burned out on music as 2007 rolled into its final quarter. After moving to Chicago and getting a job that actually kept me busy, it was hard to stay motivated splitting all of my time between working from 6AM to 6PM, keeping up appearances to try and get a foothold on this place, and making sure I paid all my bills. Growing up is demanding, I don't have to tell you this. Unfortunately for newcomers, there are a lot of albums already suited to coping with this issue. And looking back on this list, not [...]
